I think it all goes back to the alpha male vs alpha male bucking out over the alpha female!
Hook did seem genuinely Happy that Henry was safe and as non-Hook fan I enjoyed Hook making Felix sit back down with Hook. Before this season, I had side fantasy of Hook taking care of the lost boys with Tink on the Jolly Ranger but no longer acting as pirates. Of course that may never happen but it was small simple fantasy of mind of a cool way to restart Hook’s story and journey. Also it provided a nice twist to the Peter Pan story, Hook and Tink team up to take care of the lost boys.

I’m not sure if he is back paddling or not. I don’t see the writers trying to back paddle Hook because they are going for the hero redemption thing with him. I just think he is naturally acting upon his alpha male instincts with his buck rival Neal, who can alpha male in his own way, but they are also dealing with an alpha female who would but those two bucking wolves in their place especially when her pup is in danger.
But one thing is shown, Emma and Neal work really well together. I still stand that Neal has helped Emma feel more secure in her role as a leader and mother, pulling away from her feeling like a lost girl and orphan. It just seems like she is whole again. Perhaps Neal coming back from the impossible has helped her see there is hope and that she has her family and her person is now a part of it like she always wanted.

Speaking of subtle little shippy things in this ep, I’d just like to point out that Emma lit the fuse and Neal loaded the ammo, they are so completely can(n)on!!!

And I think Emma asked Neal FIRST about where Pan would go, right? And then when Hook made some sort of remark about how “no one’s ever been there (can’t remember exactly what was happening) Neal was a man and stood up and said “let’s go make history.” or something. And at the end, the ship (metaphor!) can’t go anywhere without Neal’s coconut-with-shadow. And SwanFire did that together! They ensured that they would go home. All Hook did was steer! So, in my brain that’s moving a thousand miles a second right now, Hook steered Emma and Neal back home. HA. Back to each other. HA!. And Emma’s final position on the ship is with Hook behind her, not even giving him a second thought. He’s it he past. He belongs to the NL story and it’s almost over. The new story, about the man who helped her get home so many times now, is about to begin.

I agree Hook As you wish Mi’lady felt like it was just thrown in as something to toss CSers way, while SwanfireSnowingStilskinMills Family have their moment. I’m sorry Hook just doesn’t fit in with them.
I also don’t find that Neal brings out the worse in Emma, he made Emma smile and caused her to share her love in her parents.
I still stand that having Neal by her side helped he realize that she has a family. She stop thinking like a lost girl, an orphan, and start thinking like a mother.
Hook reminded her of Neal according to JMO and according to me, Neal reminds her of Henry and Henry reminds her of Neal.

Also Emma talked to Neal about being a Lost boy, because she was a Lost girl. Can a Lost girl find her way home. I still think they A &E are subtle tying them together as their histories are so close and intertwine.

I totally agreed, when Neal was back she was on her A game again! Especially when she got to say what she needed to say to him in the echo cave again and he not reject it or angry at her, he accepted what she had to say. To me, she didn’t seem like that lost little girl or that orphan, she was a mother on a mission, save her baby. So yes to me, she seemed whole again with Neal around.

Heather: very nice post, indeed. But I don’t think they would address because it seems they would just be thrown into new problem to face and they won’t have time to talk again.
Phee: Awesome share, and I agree with a lot of what was said.
I was on tumbler and someone mentioned the costumes of Bae to Neal and how they reflect his characterization. Which lead me to thinking what type of person would Neal be if he stayed in the Enchanted Forest. I think he would be anti type hero that would never reveal he was the son of the dark one. He will be immortal because Rumple would ensure it and he will still more than likely meet rebel Princess Emma through thief of course. It made me think that both would probably be individuals running from their past. And of course Henry will still be born, because I am firm believer he is meant to be no matter what the circumstances are.
