Slurp, I do wonder that as well, what if it was Ruby vs Emma or Tink vs Emma when it came to Nealfire. If the roles were reversed and Emma left Neal instead.

Yes, as a I wrote above, I think fan service is what helped contribute to the overall decline in writing on the show. When you give certain fans what they want, it takes away an element of surprise, since you’re just playing into their expectations. Where’s the mystery gone? Truth is, it stopped being a show you could unravel, because there are no more layers of depth to be uncovered. It’s all about surface appearances with the emotional depth of a bad teen movie. When the official script begins to look more like a fan wrote it than did a professional writer, then the show runners have a problem on their hands. Sometimes you do get a very talented fan who creates a good piece of writing, but the average fan-fiction piece is usually very poorly conceived, even more poorly executed, and very much what you’d expect of an armature writer. And that is what OUAT looks like now: bad fan-fiction. It’s no wonder the ratings continued to decline so much in S3.
This is why I think they should just let season 4 be their last season. They gave selective fans factions what they wanted. CS together, Rumbelle married (Belle pregnant with baby Emma), Outlaw Queen (will happen), Snowing has baby Neal to raise. There you go they have their happy endings, defeat Frozen baddie, defeat the next big bad and then have a thanksgiving dinner and a speech given by Henry about hope and happy endings. With them all together in his Book. fade to black and show credits. Nicely Done with a little red bow.

Something that leaves me curious is how some people could so strongly dislike Neal and Swanfire yet so strongly like Anastasia and ScarletQueen. To me, both couples shared a very similar story of heartbreak, forgiveness, and in the case of ScarletQueen, eventual reconciliation, which endeared both couples to me. Both Ana and Neal left the ones they loved, but at least Neal’s motives were selfless (to get Emma home), whereas Ana left Will for the pretty selfish reason of gaining a crown. So why did Ana deserve Will’s forgiveness but Neal somehow didn’t deserve Emma’s? The only way I can make sense of it is that some people sympathize with the so-called villains more. In the case of Anastasia, she was the Red Queen. Neal, by contrast, was simply a former Lost Boy, and an otherwise normal guy who was one of the most selfless characters on the show. He gave up his own happy ending to let Emma find her parents and her home. The other obvious reason is that Hook was a villain who became a sort of anti-hero, and so like Anastasia, gets all the love and praise among certain viewers. At least, Ana made strides towards real repentance in the end. I think Ana was one of my favorite former-villains-turned-heroine by the end because her transformation was so genuine.
You want the real answer at least my answer, First there was no love triangle being set up in that show. Although some wanted Alice with Will it was clear that wasn’t going to happen. Second:
I strongly believe and I find MRJ highly attractive but based on the media and the fandom, that if Colin was Neal and MRJ was Hook things would be different. When Hook was still a image to be teased for season 2 I played with the idea of Hook and Emma to replace my Hatter and Emma, who I ship not for love but for lust. Then I meet Hook and was turn off and soured by the character.
Also there is the factor that Neal is male that left his pregnant girlfriend, that strikes a cord with some viewers, where as Anna is a woman who betrayed her love for a sake of a “career” or “the greener grass effect” that also strikes a cord with some viewers. Anna can obtain pity, because she realized that a career or greener grass couldn’t replace her love. She wanted a second chance like some of the viewers who also wanted a second chance with who they view as the love of their life.
Neal represents for some that jerk of ex who broke their heart by either or both leaving them or cheating on them, Anna represents for some themselves, the person who gave up their love for what they thought would be a better option and deeply regret it. Hook represent for some the perfect handsome charming bad but not so bad dashing heroic guy, the guy who is going to sweep them off their feet and fix them and make them and life all better. Whereas Hook also represent for some the guy that they want to be, dashing, charming, cool, smooth, fun, dark, bad boy.
Rainbow and KFC I agree they writers pay to much to the Emma ships, Emma could be with Neal or Hook and honestly the average viewer could care less. The problem I have is they killed Neal in a stupid way for a stupid reason. If they wanted Emma and Hook to have tacos by all means let them have tacos with all the sour cream, onions and salsa they want.. But at least let Neal have a chance at happiness with his family and friends, because what ever storyline you will have with Knave, I’m sure could have gone with Neal.

In all honesty, I think its out sight out of mind. I think they are all busy with their projects and personal friends and family beyond this show.
This is just a job to them, I know we fans like to make things big. But its a job, my sister did theater in highschool. And During shows, she was close to some, not so close to others, and some she couldn’t stand.When she graduated some of her stage mate she still interact with while other are rare and others never again.
Not saying Ouat cast are hateful or spiteful to each other. I think they are respectful and amicable and even think they care about each other. But they are not all as super close as fans wish to believe. When they are working together they are together but once the filming stops they go back to their lives. And of course some are closer to others then others as well.
All I can say is I am happy that they are all participating in such a good cause and taking this time to bring awareness to ALS.

In all honesty they can pretty much end the show now, Snowing has their baby, Rumple has his Belle and will be pregnant, CS has happen, Outlaw Queen by end of this season will happen, Henry will gain a new love. They should just end season 4 with one big family thanksgiving with a similar speech given during Rumbelle wedding with love, hope, and happy endings, given via Henry, with the off chance he may make a nod to his late father. Seriously that’s all she wrote, the ships are together. happy/family/whatever. End of Season 4, all done. I see no need to drag it out any longer then this.
