I think Belle does know that the dagger is a fake but she doesn’t want to accept the fact it’s a fake. The mirror only confronted Belle with her own negative thoughts. Belle’s logic seems to be “Rumple wouldn’t lie to me because he loves me” she can’t seem to grasp that Rumple can lie to her and still love her. Her logic seems to be he loves her and wouldn’t lie or he’s lying and doesn’t love her which is the angle the mirror was going for. Belle knows Rumple loves her therefore him lying to her doesn’t make sense and she doesn’t want to consider the possibility that he doesn’t love her (when he clearly does love her).
Generally, I understand your logic but if you think of Broken or Crocodile, she confronted him with his lies and manipulations and didn’t accept it. I’m totally with you that she just doesn’t want to accept it but the next question would be why she acts that way. Is she applying a different standard now since Bae died or does she simply ignore it because she can’t deal with more arguing, separating or whatever might be the consequence?
Oh, and Anna refused to say Rumple’s name. Belle told her father she found it in her research. So it’s possible that Belle’s never made the connection between Rumple & Anna, especially since, while Anna saw him at his most monstrous, Belle witnesses him torturing and trying to kill Robin Hood and still sees the good in him only a few weeks later–she never completely buys his “I’m a horrible monster” mask. It’s entirely possible she believed Anna was talking about someone else, if it ever came up in her mind after that.
Are there that many “twisted”, evil, super powerful wizards in the enchanted forest? As far as I can recall we’ve only met one male magician and that would be Rumple. So it would be a bit far off for her to believe that Anna talked about another one. Btw. I got the impression that Belle started her research after Anna told her about a sorcerer.
[adrotate group="5"]ready_to_rumbelleParticipantHas anybody else been wondering why Belle never confronts Rumple about the dagger and/or the hat?
Anna told her that she had stolen the box with the hat from an evil sorcerer and later Belle tells her father about said wizard and she knows that it’s Rumple. That also means that Belle knows that Rumple knew Anna and that he lied to Elsa and Emma when she commanded him with the dagger to tell the truth (Ep 4.03 Rocky Road). Consequently, she MUST know that the dagger he gave is not real. Do you guys think she simply forgot about these little details or that she just ignores them and doesn’t want to deal with her husband’s lies and the big fight that would probably follow if she confronted him?
ready_to_rumbelleParticipantAlso, anyone think Belle’s reflection was actually telling her lots of truth she didn’t want to hear, but actually needed to? After all, her reflection told her things things that at least have elements of truth: Rumple gave her a fake danger, Rumple is using her, and Rumple is manipulating her.
I assumed it showed her subconscious fears (and that those personal fears and doubts if brought to the surface of everyone could destroy the town). After all, we’ve seen her self-doubting in Dark Hollow, so it wouldn’t be too far off for her to doubt that the all mighty Dark One could love her and to entrust her with the dagger.
ready_to_rumbelleParticipantNice videos @Killian Jones! You reanimated the Rumbelle thread 🙂
ready_to_rumbelleParticipantThe second sneak peek made me absolutely excited about Sunday’s episode. This means we finally get a real story for Belle! She must be pretty desperate to force Rumple to help her and from her perspective and with her current knowledge about the dagger and Rumple’s history with Anna/SQ it’s more like “I’m asking my all powerful husband for help (ONCE) and when I don’t want to tell him about the mistake I’m trying to fix he won’t help me and starts to treat me like a child (see the “I won’t let you anywhere near her”)!”
In my opinion, A&E aren’t making Rumbelle look bad or get even by having Belle messing up but they are trying to show us that no one is black or white, light or dark, good or bad, we are all grey and when pushed into a corner, most people do things they later regret. Belle has been very forgiving in the past and maybe now it’s finally time for Rumple to forgive her.
ready_to_rumbelleParticipantI guess this is the big problem. You think to be as close to the original art is the best way to translate or localize a pice of art while I think translating from one language to another is an art itself. These are just two different kind of philosophies. The difference is that you think someone who doesn’t follow yours is just wrong.
Right, on can say, I want them stay close to the original art, out of respect for that art. I don’t want a word by word, literal translation, but the show is not the art work of whoever is doing the titles in German but the work of A&E and their team of writers – and I expect the translation to stay true to their work, and that includes the episode titles. We’re not talking creating fan fiction here or some German reproduction of the show, which would offer some more creative freedom. Translation into another language is an art in itself, I agree, but one these German title makers don’t master IMO, or don’t care about. What they do is marketing strategy, they assume that these titles are more appealing to a German audience. Maybe they’re right, and it sells better with those titles, but they take away from the original art created, they don’t care to keep the tone the creators of the show have set (the most difficult task in translating), they care about what they think a German audience might find interesting enough to tune in. Captain America is as such known as well in Germany, they didn’t use a different name in the comics here. But what is truly hilarious about the German film title is that it is not German at all, the change of title was plain marketing strategy (as was the English title). One is about business and selling it to a specific market, the other about good translation. They might sell it better, but I still dislike it from the point of view of art.
I’m 100% with you. German translations and synchronizations are mostly terrible. Why on earth would they change the movie title “taken” into “96 hours” and then they didn’t even translate it but used an English phrase. I don’t watch any German TV shows or movies if I can get them in English. One of the weirdest translations of the ONCE episodes is Skin Deep. First of all, it was supposed to be something the viewer should only realize after Maurice called Belle by her name when she goes with Rumple that this story is about BatB but they totally spoiled it. And secondly, it’s supposed to imply the meaning of this episode that beauty comes from within and isn’t only visible on the outside.
ready_to_rumbelleParticipantAccording to the interview I just posted in the SDCC thread – https://oncepodcast.com/forums/topic/san-diego-comic-con-2014/page/26/#post-279167 – Will Scarlet/the Knave will make his first appearance in this ep.
ready_to_rumbelleParticipantready_to_rumbelleParticipantThese titles usually have double meanings too; like I wouldn’t be surprised if this episode dealt with love issues ; namely Robin and Regina, rumple and Belle. Also, this could just be coincidence but Emilie said this at Fairytales II: <iframe id=”twitter-widget-1″ class=”twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered” style=”display: block; max-width: 99%; min-width: 220px; padding: 0px; border-top-left-radius: 5px; border-top-right-radius: 5px; border-bottom-right-radius: 5px; border-bottom-left-radius: 5px; margin: 10px 0px; border-color: #eeeeee #dddddd #bbbbbb; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.14902) 0px 1px 3px; position: static; visibility: visible; width: 500px;” title=”Embedded Tweet” height=”186″ frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no”></iframe><script src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” async=”” charset=”utf-8″></script>
I think you and @TheWatcher are both right. The episode will deal with the relationship drama of OutlawQueen and RumBelle and the trolls, who are “love experts” according to Kristoff in the movie, will make an appearance.
ready_to_rumbelleParticipantI have no clue if this picture is real or manipulated but in the video above Elsa is running with a newspaper in her right hand.
