I love this theory! It’s all tied up in a pretty little bow too which is a bonus! even if Regina didn’t have the hat, we know Jefferson has worked with her before, so maybe this was one of those times

So I just deviated from my original Hookriel wish list and thought of a theory that would be both very dark yet kinda awesome in my opinion. I had originally wanted Hook to be Eric, and for him and Ariel to meet as kids (I still kinda want this anyways).

But I was thinking about the curse of the mermaids and how maybe it is in all mermaids nature to want to drown humans. What if Ariel has in the past actually done this, and while she is now fighting this side of her and being the awesome Ariel we all know and going against her kind. Yet what she did in the past during of a moment of weakness still haunts her. And WHAT IF this person was Eric, a boy she once loved (either as a friend or more). I’m gonna go further on this crack theory and just combine them and say that Hook knew Ariel and her kindness, yet when she succumbed to instinct (maybe as a consequence of a broken deal?) he saw the sweetest girl he knew do this to maybe one of his crew members? Which is why he is so adamant about the curse of the mermaids. Of course once Ariel had seen once she had done she snapped out of it, but maybe it is HER that doesn’t think she is worthy of a relationship which is why Hook is still bitter

In my mind, there’s a cave that the mermaids go with the bodies they curse and she steals there hearts :), lol

But in all seriousness, I could see Ariel going to the sea witch’s cave and finding Regina standing in a mirror in all her evil queen glory

Though I’d like Ariel to have met hook previously, so I imagine her making the original deal with rumple for timeline reasons (plus he has a thing with contracts like in the movie), then to Regina to modify it, for instance to get her voice back once she fails, because hook left.

That’s a cool idea for how he found out about NL! I always end up stumped when I try to think about how mermaids are in NL but Regina was dealing with one and she’s in FTL. Was she dealing with someone in NL? Was the mermaid in FTL? Can Ariel really become enamoured of the human world if all she’s see is NL? Just last night I was thinking about it when I was supposed to be falling asleep, and wondered if maybe Ariel is from NL, and as a teenager she went off exploring and ended up in FTL and ended up trapped there.

 

I was thinking today when I was writing a long-forgotten fanfic that maybe Neverland wasn’t always like that, like mermaids got along with humans until her mom died and that’s when the curse of the mermaids comes about? If we think Ariel knew hook as a kid, then that would’ve been  before bae ended up in Neverland

 

i definitely think Ariel went off on her own to explore other lands, it has her written all over it lol plus if Neverland becomes like we have seen it, who can blame her?

One more point about Ariel, she’s the favourite Disney Princess of a LOT of people out there in the world. Disney is re-releasing The Little Mermaid on DVD/BluRay in October. Ep 6 should air the first week in November. I daresay there will be Ariel fans who are in the midst of reveling in their love of her due to the movie re-release, who have never watched the show before but will tune in just to see their take on Ariel. The character has huge potential to draw in more viewers. They’d be crazy to only give her 2 eps.

Agreed! I’m counting down the days until that movie comes out (Again)! Plus they had three movies and a tv series for 3 seasons, she’s definitely one of everybody’s favorites

I can attest to Ariel being popular- I think at the D23 Expo, I saw more of her than any other princess as far as cosplay and people wearing her on t-shirts!

 

I believe it! I already have my Halloween costume to be her this year lol
