Yes, “at least” just means that’s all they’re able to confirm right now. Same thing with Robin getting, “at least a 4 episode arc”. It’s just the starting point. I think they may have said something similar for Hook when he started out too, and he’s now in the main cast. They’ve done setup for mermaids as far back as season 1, and especially at the end of season 2. Ariel’s story will also involve Ursula, and Triton, and her love story, and all of that cannot be told fully if she’s only appearing in 2 eps. Rumour is they’ve had JoAnna in mind for this role since the show began, (JMo mentions it in an interview from 2011), but then she got other jobs, and got pregnant. She had the baby in May, and now they’ve finally signed her up, after wanting her on the show for 2 years. If they waited until the time was perfect, for the story, and for a particular actress, safe to say she’s getting more than 2 eps. If it was gonna be such a small role, they’d have slotted her in with any random actress before now.

An ABC rep confirms for TVLine that the Reba/Privileged alum will play the mermaid with moxie in at least two episodes, starting with the sixth installment of Season 3

As to male fairies, in my headcanon, there are no male fairies. Instead there is a ban on TL for the fairies because their job is so important. I have this whole theory about Blue and how a long long long long time ago she fell in love with a mortal man and in an effort to make him immortal so that they could be together forever, she stabbed him with an enchanted dagger except that it created the first dark one. After this, Blue made a law that fairies weren’t allowed to have true love.
I like this theory!! There’s also a similar (yet not quite as dark) plot point in Disney’s Secret of the Wings:
The Fairy Queen was in love with one of the winter fairies, but during that time because they crossed the boundary his wing got broken, so she made it so fairies were not allowed to cross the border anymore

What if the connection to someone on the boat is that she’s the one who gave the fairy dust to snow? And maybe as a result got kicked to neverland?

So excite for Ariel! In Neverland! I’m totally on board with mermaids being able to cross different realms! Especially considering Augusts line saying water flows through all the realms connecting all the lands. So ready for the crack ship Hookriel to set sail! And I think it’s safe to say we will see her dinglehopper at some point this season!
