Me too. I really wanted her to meet Lacey for one thing! I feel like the last time we saw her was when she visited memory-less Belle in the hospital. I really want to know what her reaction to Lacey would have been, considering the way Ruby used to be… But maybe when she shows up on the show again they can hang out and fill each other in, because Belle will be without Rumple after all, so she needs bonding time with somebody. Leroy might step up for that, actually…
And it was so cool to get to see Granny guard Henry instead. But STILL. It SUCKS how often actors go missing on this show without any explanation in character! Sigh.

We exist there in a magically constructed world where revenge is woven into the landscape because that’s often how myths/fairy tales function. A individual or that individual’s family is dishonored or wrongs, you take revenge. It’s cyclical.
That’s a great perspective. Family feuds can be like that in even real life… although the only such feud that is coming to mind is the Montagues and the Capulets… It starts and it goes on for so long that no one even remembers who started it or what they’re getting revenge for, it’s just all part of the mutual hatred. It IS cyclical, isn’t it?
Well. I’m looking forward to the part where it finally gets settled… somehow or another!

That would be a great twist, Regina forgives Snow, but Snow still harbors anger towards Regina (What?). 😮
That would be fantastic!

I don’t understand the hostage scene, Regina is meant to be a powerful witch, and yet she couldn’t simply teleport out of Emma’s hold? That scene was poorly written.
Ew, you’re right. That was bad. I forgot all about that scene! I was expecting something to come of it–like that to be the moment she realizes that her mom doesn’t really care about her. But no. *sigh*

I think she did a great job of channeling Barbara Hershey though I read that she tried to make it her own since this was young Cora.
Yes, she did a good job. Baylee Madison openly copies Gennifer’s performance of Snow and it’s amazing. McGowan didn’t do that but she still made it seem like she was actually a younger version of Cora. It compliments Hershey’s performance, rather than mirroring it.

If they would act all rational they should see that there is no point at all, sword or whatever silly weapon they use, to win a fight against such powerful magic, so why don’t they surrender? 😉 😈
I don’t want them to surrender. I’m just tired of their POSTURING. They always act like they don’t even KNOW that their swords are useless. They always seem to think, “This time, it’ll work!” And that’s just stupid.

That’s kind of what I was hinting at. We’ve been seeing Emma use magic with no price at all this season…or not any we’ve yet seen anyway. I also feel like there’s no reason David, Snow or anyone else can’t use magic given the way Rumpel explained it this episode.
I don’t know about that. The other magic we saw was her using it to see Pongo’s memories. That definitely had a price. Regina would’ve hung on to goodness (for a least a while longer) if Emma had continued to be on her side, saying that she didn’t do it! Getting to go to a party where everyone hated but tolerated her wasn’t a good enough reward for stopping the evilness, but having someone who used to be a rival believe in her and stick up for her? That would’ve meant something. And Snow and Charming would’ve probably followed too. And Henry also would’ve been like, “I know you didn’t do it.” So Regina wouldn’t have needed Cora and a lot of this stuff could have perhaps been prevented. I think that is the price they paid.
riddleravenParticipantI think that Rumple did know that by starting a family with Cora he would be changing the future. Perhaps preventing himself from ever finding Bae some other way than the way he cancelled out. But I don’t think he was giving up. He would’ve kept trying to find another way. And frankly, there WERE other ways to get from fairy tale land to our world. 1) Bae didn’t go straight to our world with the bean, so he found another way to get from there (neverland) to our world 2) there were other beans in giant land 3) there was at least one enchanted tree that he could’ve learned how to use.

BTW that was the second time he asked someone if they really loved him, just before they died (basically at his hand).
Oh man, good point.
So, 30 years later when Belle truly fell in love for him, Rumple was guarded, and though he and Belle really loved one another, he mistrusted her and rejected her pleas for him to believe in their love. He did what Cora had done to him all those years before; he chose power over love, because he was all the more resolved that nothing, absolutely nothing, would stand in the way of his vow to find Baelfire again.
Wow. I’m glad we have this insight into the Rumbelle relationship now, because of this history with Cora!

She only brought up love so he’d change the contract so she wouldn’t owe him anything because Cora refuses to owe people things.
This. Not long before Cora met Rumple, maybe an hour or so at most, she’d said to the King, “You’ve got some nerve disparaging me, you’re selling off your own flesh and blood.” Then Rumple presents her with a contract and she gives him the side eye and says, “My first born child?” She’s not gonna change her opinion on the morality of selling off your own flesh and blood in the space of a couple of hours. I think she was scheming the whole time to find a way to get the power, the adoration, and keep the baby.
Great catch!
riddleravenParticipantOhhh yeah. That book WAS Cora’s, wasn’t it? I just remembered the part where he gave it to Regina and I wondered when he would’ve gotten it back. But now I remember Regina(?) and definitely Snow saying that they’d seen Cora using it. I wish we’d gotten a glimpse of it in the episode then my mind could accept this and rest.
Maybe that was her sarcastic way of saying, “Dude are you serious, you have no idea how powerful I am.”
Yeah, that was implied at least. Her humility in that episode was fake from the beginning. And so CREEPY because of it! She does it well but you know you can’t trust it! That falsely sweet interaction of theirs with the kiss and everything, even after this episode still gives me the heebie-jeebies! Blech.
Great point about the dark side! I like that light magic comes from happy thoughts and dark magic comes from evil thoughts like blood lust. Yikes.
riddleravenParticipantYeah, it does sound like they’re going back on the “Rumple didn’t know until Emma came” thing. Weird. I’m okay with that if they do, because I prefer to believe that he always knew and it’s not canon (on the show) yet that he didn’t know all that time.
