Hello! Welcome to the site, Anja!
[adrotate group="5"]riddleravenParticipantHello, welcome, fortuna!
riddleravenParticipantI thought it was really sad that this Gaston went poof. I didn’t take my opinion of him from the Disney movie into this episode because I didn’t know how it would turn out. Belle did say she really didn’t care about him but I don’t think he was nearly so bad in this version. I was really surprised and impressed when he showed up to save her. I thought that was noble and nice. 🙁
However, I get the twisted amusement side too. I’m not bashing you for that. There are points in the Disney movie where you do wish he would poof.
riddleravenParticipantI also thought that maybe Regina was Rumps wife and Baelfire’s mom but I abandoned it because of the timeline problem too. Desperate Souls took place centuries ago and I really don’t think Regina is that old, magic or not. Also, I don’t think she would leave her son for any reason, because the whole point of the Rumpelstiltskin story is that the miller’s daughter ISN’T WILLING to give up her son when it comes down to it–she desperately wants to keep him. And we’re thinking that’s the whole reason the EQ hates Snow. So there’s no way, in my mind, she could possibly be Rumps wife or Baelfire’s mom. And he doesn’t talk to her like they were once lovers. I think he would hate her more now that he’s such a darkie. I do like toying with the theory though and maybe some details that come out will revive the theory again. Who knows.
UPDATE FROM FRUIT OF THE POISONOUS TREE:
In the fairy tale we know the King demands “spin me some gold and I will marry you. Or don’t and DIE.” King Leopold does NOT seem like the type of king to say that! But he does have a darker side (wanting to kill the queen’s lover even though he doesn’t love her himself) so maybe he did act like that. So, fine, she makes the deal with Rumple for the baby and marries the king. Then she has a baby and succeeds in tricking Rumple. But Snow tells Rumple so Rumple comes back and takes the baby. This could explain why the King “can’t love her” which he says to the Genie. Then the king dies and we get the scene where Snow is sobbing over it and Regina comes along still pretending to be friends and hugs her and talks about missing him too. Then she goes on to plot her death and the take over of the kingdom.
Does that sound right to everyone? At first I was going to say that the theory was falling apart in my mind but now I found a way for it to still make sense. xD.
I do keep coming back to one big problem though. Even if the baby did get taken away because Snow let the secret slip it’s not really her fault. It’s Regina’s fault for making the deal in the first place and Rumple’s more than anyone else’s for requiring such a despicable thing. Even though she already dislikes Snow because the king said she was the “fairest of them all” I don’t think her wrath would be so misplaced. Surely she would just find a way to get her son BACK from Rumple? I can’t believe that if she loved the kid soooo much that she would consider Rumple’s deal so irreversible that she wouldn’t do everything she could to get him back and that would take up her focus, not letting her focus on Snow so much. Don’t you think?
I’m starting to think maybe she really is just jealous of Snow’s beauty. The genie told her that she was the fairest of them all in this episode and I can see her making a tradition out of that–asking him everyday “who is the fairest?” like in the fairy tale. I know she said Snow “took someone precious from her” and that “she couldn’t keep a secret” but maybe she made that up. Characters lie, after all. Snow is the one who said “yes, I ruined her life” but that could still be because she was the fairest and the king loved her more than Regina and the mirror who she relied upon even said Snow was better. That could ruin a superficial queen’s life. I don’t really want this to be the answer, I still think the other theory is great, but I want to put it back on the table.riddleravenParticipantThank you for that screen shot. I consider it absolute proof that Pinn is not the 7 year old and also that he didn’t go through the wardrobe at all. Because if he went through the wardrobe right before her 1) it WOULD say “two kids found by roadside” (like hjbau said) and even if it didn’t 2) it would not say that one “local boy” found her.
Perhaps he could get adopted before she came through and become a local boy in that sense but then I think the article would have said something to the effect of “once lost child finds another,” or “Baby Emma turned over to child care system, just like the 7 year old boy that found her was once. Hopefully she’ll be as successful in finding a family” or something. It would definitely mention somehow that they’d both been in the system and they probably would not have used the words ‘local boy’ at all.
riddleravenParticipantCan anyone remember what it looked like when he poofed Cinderella’s fairy? The way I remember it she seemed to shatter/explode. And we definitely though she was killed rather than teleported. It didn’t look as violent this time but my immediate reaction was that he was dead.
February 16, 2012 at 3:33 am in reply to: Where do you think "Skin Deep" fits in the timeline? #137304riddleravenParticipantI thought of a few other things in the live chat just now.
Some points to think about:
#1) This is definitely BEFORE Regina tries out the curse for the first time, because Rumple isn’t imprisoned yet for her to have to visit him there.
#2) Belle is about same age as Snow so this didn’t happen before Snow was born. It had to happen at some point when Snow was this age. Now, remember the episode where Snow meets Rumple? Rumple talks about love being a disease and her wanting to forget (although he obviously chooses not to himself) and we all thought he was referencing his wife but he had to be referencing Belle! That helps a lot with the timeline if I’m right.
#3) Regina talks about true love’s kiss breaking any curse. So could it be that she knows that from experience with Snow? Maybe. Or maybe not because Snow eats the apple AFTER she takes Rumple’s potion, which, like I said, I think is AFTER he met and lost Belle.
#4) Also, I think it’s interesting to note that the EQ is concerned with a mermaid rather than Snow White OR the curse because she eventually becomes obsessed with those things but she didn’t seem to be in this episode. (Unless Ariel is part of her quest. But all she said was that the mermaid was being annoying somehow…)
riddleravenParticipant“GRAVY OR BUTTER?!”

(She said she was having “twitterpations” this whole episode. I thought that was cute xD) Personally, I wouldn’t go that far (maybe eventually) but Robert Carlyle just has a way of making you sympathize!
riddleravenParticipantYeah she was getting pruning scissors from it that she had seen there. I don’t remember the box on the floor. You mean what she was doing while Rumple was at the door?
