You keep saying that ‘even if he is trying to end the curse the way he’s going about it is evil.’ Can you explain that more? What exactly is “the way he’s going about it” and how is it evil? I haven’t seen him do anything in Storybrooke that’s really evil. Setting that fire was criminal though.
But I guess you CAN say that Rumple IS evil. If you strictly go by the definition of it. Evil, to me, has such a strong meaning though, that doesn’t fit him. (Hitler was evil. Regina is evil too. They both attacked entire countries… they’re both worse than Rumple)
BUT… Rumple is evil by the definition. Also, one definition of “wicked” is “playfully malicious or mischievous” and I think that fits him QUITE well. He is playful and he is malicious because he does mean harm to other people sometimes. Like Gepettos parents with that potion that killed them…
So if I’m going to call him wicked, malicious, mischievous, a murderer, immoral, criminal, and bad… I better call him evil too.

It reminds me too much of those stories where the character wakes up at the end and it was all a dream.
riddleravenParticipantIt’s cool! I listen to so many once podcasts and stuff that I forget where I heard or read things too. Annnd it turns out you guys made some of the same comments in your podcast on this episode already. I even think Dan talked about the dimensions thing already.
Yes… I think you have a point about Emma being wishy-washy. We have seen a little bit of that so far and I guess it’s not to late to establish that too as part of her character. But! But! I want her to be strong and good and mature! I want her to be The Savior! But I guess she can’t be right away, right? *sigh~* By the end of the show I’m sure she will be. She will grow. If she’s the kind of person that learns from her mistakes.
Okay, her depressed “we saw this all along, we were just blinded to the truth” comment may be be exactly what happened but I still don’t think it’s a good excuse. I’m not happy with her. She wasn’t “blinded” she just had her eyes shut! But circling back to the consequences thing–now that it’s ended so badly I think she has opened her eyes. Or WILL. So now she may realize what Sydney’s up to.
It occurs to me that Henry might know Sydney could never betray Regina, either from what he’s known of the guy’s relationship with his mom all his life or what he read in the book. But now he can’t tell Emma! So I do hope she’ll figure it out herself soon, if she hasn’t already.

Mmm. That would be REALLY interesting. I know Rumps would enjoy the irony (that she did exactly what he did to the other dark one, for basically the same reason) even as he took his last breath. And croak out a warning that ‘history always repeats and the same thing will happen to her one day…’ And then chuckle? lol. But that probably won’t happen on this show. I think we’ll get our happy ending with a broken curse and Emma-the-savior. This kind of idea is fanfiction gold though. Somebody write it!

riddleravenParticipantperfect. thanks for sharing that! xD
riddleravenParticipantHmm. I don’t know, Obisgirl. I don’t think his cautious tone implies that Frederick was important–just that it IS important to be cautious and not touch his hand or you’ll end up (as a golden statue) like the last person that Midas touched (mostly likely when he was removing Midas’s glove like is happening in that scene): Frederick.
riddleravenParticipantI personally think that he’s self-serving and potentially dangerous but not evil.
HOWEVER, he IS a bad guy. He’s a murderer. I can’t let him off the hook for that.
But I still love his character. A lot. Without him I wouldn’t like the show nearly as much.
riddleravenParticipantHi, Obisgirl 🙂
riddleravenParticipantI’ve come over to this theory too. I originally thought Frederick was some guard and didn’t matter and wouldn’t come up again. But seeing that there’s an episode about him and knowing that something had to have broken up Abigail’s wedding–I really think this is possible.
Also, I heard today that there is a Grimm story called, “Catherine and Frederick.” It’s not Frederick and Abigail but it’s a funny coincidence at least. I haven’t read the story yet so I don’t know if it could possibly be related to OUAT but I skimmed it and, man, Catherine is a ditz! xD
riddleravenParticipantI think he’s a Grimm brother or someone else entirely, not on the list.
