KeymasterEverything ends…
I thought about putting my goodbyes in the official end date thread but, in the end, this is the thread that mattered most to me and even if Daniel decides to keep this open for a little bit longer (conventions, possibly) I’m pretty sure this is it for me. My final post. Over the past few months I’ve found myself coming here less and less–sometimes going two weeks without popping in! Supremely weird for me 🙂
But I wanted to come by one final time to say goodbye. This place and all of you were such a surprise and a joy, even when my love for the show altered dramatically.
It’s kind of surprising that I have so few words to say now that the end is here. I thought I’d be posting a paragraphs upon paragraphs. But I’ve said everything I wanted to either here before or on the podcast itself. You all know how I feel. How much this place and you guys meant.
SwanFire for life.
“Fate, destiny, whatever you want to call it…the point is, maybe we met for a reason.”
Love you all.

KeymasterI’m gonna miss talking about Doctor Who with you lot…
Here’s the trailer for S11 featuring Jodie Whitaker

KeymasterBONUS Mass murder infinity for apparently somehow killing everyone in our world in some distant past that doesn’t make sense.
Ooof, yeah. Planetary genocide.
I’m guessing Baelfire’s one contested kill is when he ordered Rumple to kill Beowulf?

KeymasterP.S. does anybody know if A + E wrote for the Alice and Robin characters, or did they get another writer to handle them? Because I feel that, in the case of Alice/Tilly at least, she had a different feel about her compared to any characters we’ve seen before.
It’s hard to know what A and E interject into all the stories, even if other writers are the credited creators of any particular episode.
But for Alice/Robyn they can be credited for:
–The Eighth Witch (which introduced Robin and Alice’s relationship, right before the Curse took them)
–Secret Garden (which only featured Robin)
–Flower Child (which featured both characters but was more about Gothel)
–Leaving Storybrooke
The main Alice and Alice/Robin stories were:
–The Girl in the Tower (Dana Horgan and Leah Fong)
–The Guardian (David H Goodman and Brigitte Hales

KeymasterYa’know…it’s weird. But a few years ago I swore off any A and E project after OUAT but if it was a Robin/Alice spin off….I’d be there with bells on.

KeymasterI wondered if some of the OUAT writers would go with A and E. Maybe others will join?

KeymasterI’d be really interested to know some of the BTS timeline stuff going on here. As fans, we heard about JMo’s departure the day after (lol, literally) the musical episode and we didn’t get official announcement about S7 being the end until the beginning of February but surely the decision has been made before then, and A and E were told (I’m going to ignore what the President of ABC said at the January TCA’s…)
But when did JMo make that decision–and I’ll always wonder what spurred her choice, was it the desire for directing (she’s given some odd contradictory statements about directing for OUAT) or did she not get something she wanted (Producer was always tossed around as a reason she left)? And did A and E meet with ABC, say they wanted one more year but wanted flexibility to work on another project (and ABC agreed since OUAT has done quite well for ABC overall)

KeymasterMoving a bit away, back to the topic, but someone on Tumblr pointed out that the quickness of this announcement suggests that this has been in the works for awhile and could only officially go public once their non-compete clause from OUAT was lifted. It might explain why we saw so few episodes from A and E in this last season–they knew ABC was going to cancel the show and took the gig, working on it in tandem with ending OUAT.

KeymasterI sorta agree/disagree with both of your points, HJ and Gaultheria.
I think they’re good at worldbuilding in short bursts They aren’t the sort of writers who can maintain a lengthy story that is intricate and has to have established rules in order for the story to flow. But if you think of each arc and season as its own thing and not connected to any other arcs or seasons, they no they aren’t terrible.
I think anyone would have trouble keeping a story premise going for seven years, but that’s not an issue if it gets reset every episode.
And this is where I disagree with you. Look at fantasy novelists who spend years, decades, heck even entire careers in one world that must be carefully maintained in order for the story to progress from A to Z. And usually that’s not collaborative, JKR for instance did not have a writing partner. A and E have each other and entire room full of other writers.
TV and books are different mediums but good writers should flesh out their world well in advanced, which is why I think S1 is the most structurally sound–they had years to plot that one. S2 and S3 to an extent benefit from the long prep period for S1. As we got closer to the end, that’s when the cracks began to show and then fall to pieces utterly.

KeymasterSo did I miss Doctor Whale and Pinocchio? Or were they just being credited for the reused archive footage? Or were they just completely cut?
I never saw either, though I did see Tony Amondola in the group shot very briefly. Perhaps it was for the reused archive footage, then.
