–I’m slightly confused by the ending. Humans don’t remember the Monks (either consciously or subconsciously forgetting the past six months) but those six months did happen and we saw that people did die. Either the public executions were fake to curtail rebellion or this is another example of the writers making everything too easy. There was no rapid undoing of that time unlike in the S3 finale.

10×8 “The Lie of the Land”

–I think this was my second favorite of the season, still not better than Thin Ice for me though.

–It got a bit…schmaltzy there at the end. There’s no denying that DW has a sentimental streak running through it, just look at the Xmas episodes. But I though the conclusion of “remembering mum and the evil dictators run away” was a bit cringe worthy even for a show that gets as treckly as DW does.

–I really liked the Doctor pretending he was working for the Monks because Peter Capaldi does mad Doctor really well. Won’t lie, sorta disappointed that it all turned out to be a ruse because I would have liked to have seen Bill straight up save the Doctor (a la Martha Jones style).

–So much current political commentary this year!

–“However bad it is, if people think that’s the way it’s always been, they put up with it.”

–“What about free will?” “You had free will and look what you did with it.”

–Missy is still bananas. Yay! But also changing and growing as a person. Also yay! But where does Simm come into all this?

–In the end, I’m not sure I was totally sold on this trilogy of episodes. I’ve seen stronger 3 part (or even two part) episodes from the show and this doesn’t really rank amongst them. It’s not horrible by any stretch of the imagination. Though, still giving big props to Peter for his performance. I’m gonna miss him.

If that’s true, I just noticed one of the most obvious potential puns: HarLEE Quin

    *groan*

However, I’ve also seen speculation that Barbara might also be Harley, but maybe Barbara is a red herring that they want us to think about?

At this point I think Barbara is her own entity and the writers aren’t trying to do anything but let the character and Erin Richards have fun.

I wonder if he’s going solo or working with someone. Also, is he an “any” character or does he tackle one specific?

Are they turning Lee into Harley Quinn or just a bad guy?

I think they’re doing Harley Quinn. There was a spoiler a few months back that Gotham would introduce Harley toward the end of the season but I’ve seen no one except Lee to fit that bill.

The trailer for the conclusion of the trilogy does look really good, though. (Even if it feels very Martha at the end of S3)

I feel like this season would be best enjoyed being binge watched.

    Quote

I think this current trilogy would be best binged watched. The first episode was too Moffat-esque (for me, at least), the second was too boring but the hook at the end was great. If we were binge watching this year, I would have instantly watched the next episode to see what happens.

For me the rest of the season has been a lot of great standalone episodes that don’t make me gasping for the next episode but always leave me happy when the next Saturday rolls around.

    Or Batman Begins

I actually totally missed that movie. I caught the Dark Knight but somehow never got around to seeing Batman Begins. Though, I guess that the BB/Arrow connection makes sense. When Arrow began, Berlanti et. al wanted it to be BB-esque.

    “Pretty Hate Machine”

    LIKED

–“We hit every spot on that crystal owl and all we got were dead people wearing owl masks!” That line, tho.

–I loooooove Oswald’s outfit this episode. Might be my favorite one.

–Bruce is “some sort of weird zombie zealot.”

–Ah, so the Zen Master works for Bashir al Ghul.  (totally gonna call him that now. Thanks @Jiminy). At least that answers that question. However, there are some strong whiffs of Arrow S3 here with Ra’s wanting to convert Bruce/Ollie into a dark knight as part of destiny (actually there are Arrow whiffs every where this season. The CoO’s goal is essentially the Queen/Merlyn Undertaking)

–“You got no idea how strong that boy is.” <3 Alfred

    –Well hey Fish Mooney!

–“This is quite a gathering. You have to love Gotham, people always pointing guns at each other.” #HowToSumUpAShowInTwoSentences

    MIXED

–Props to @thedarkonedearie for calling the show’s route with Lee. However, I’m not sure I like it. Yeah, she’s more interesting infected by Alice Tetch’s blood and the actress finally seems to be having some fun but there’s something uncomfortable about the way the show keeps developing their female characters which is to villainize them. And both turns to villainy comes after heartbreak which gets a bit of a side eye from me.

    DISLIKED

–Uh, well, RIP the CoO? They were really under developed in terms of individuality. Like who were *any* of these people? I know the collective whole is more important than the individuals but are they titans of industry? Political figures? Celebrities? Who are any of these other important families of Gotham?
