Maybe the Tiger Lily scene is just right at the end of the episode or her scenes are like the minor plot for this episode.

That’s a pretty good point. The TV Line article did say “set to reoccur starting with episode 17.”

Right. In order for Emma to break up with Hook, the first thing that needs to happen is for the two guys writing and running this show to be aware that what they are writing is abusive but since they don’t, they won’t. It’s a standard, “if then” clause. If A happens, then B will occur. But since A isn’t going to happen then B won’t.

And to step outside CS, the same can be said for all the other host of issues that plague OUAT at large (or, heck, take it further–that plague network TV at large). Like rape culture in media, sexism, classism, elitism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and paranoia over anything that can be “otherized.” This is an OUAT forum so we stick with that show for the most part (obviously) but, to be slightly fair, the larger cultural problems that we bring up as problematic to OUAT are not localized solely and exclusively to OUAT.

I mean there is no way this isn’t about Snowing.

Right? I have no idea how Tiger Lily et al fit into this, but the title suggests it’s gotta be about Snowing.

But wasnt this a hook centric, with Tiger lily and blackbeard and lost boys and all that jazz?

Yeaaaaah. Who knows what the title is referring to then.

I liked the latest episode as well. Seems like Flynn has gone totally round the bend and is now black-hat. I still wish the show would flesh out the mystery of Lucy/Flynn a bit more. Still no word on if NBC is going to renew it (it’s looking like a major toss up and just depends on if NBC can scale it back–it’s super expensive–and believe it can draw more people in)

Blackbeard, eh? That’s canon with Barrie. Less so with OUAT?

More generally, in my opinion, authorial intent is … if not entirely irrelevant, at least not particularly relevant compared to uptake.

Author John Green has a little saying in regards to this: “BBTTR”–books belong to their readers. I don’t believe that A and E are deliberately writing a troubling relationship when it comes to CS; I also don’t believe they are deliberately being misogynistic, racist, classiest, and intolerant to LGBTQ community, but that doesn’t mean that their story doesn’t reflect those negative attributes.

    Yay we’re back! 3×12 “Ghosts”

GENERAL: Mostly pretty okay. A nice return if a little rote (Jim’s conflicted! Lee and Jim are tiresome! Bruce is off doing a thing! Nygma et all are scheming! Strange things happen!). I’m really just looking forward to the Nygmobblepot drama and Jerome’s return.

    LIKED

–Oswald Cobblepot uses a flip phone. I find this oddly endearing. (also, your hair is fabulous, darling. Like it always is)

–I think this is the most I’ve liked Selina all series. Suddenly her “tough street girl” shtick makes ALL the sense. It also explains why she’s extremely hesitant to open up with Bruce–abandonment issues.

–“Doesn’t anyone die in Gotham anymore??!”

    MIXED

–The ghost idea is interesting since all the characters are metaphorically haunted by their pasts but I think the show missed an opportunity by not getting Carol Kane back as Oswald’s mother; that’s his true “ghost.”

–And speaking of…I’m actually rather surprised that Ed didn’t go the Gertrude route. I mean, yeah, Oswald’s father’s death is traumatic but Ed and Os met and bonded over the death of Kristen/Gertrude. I still think Ed might be playing some sort of long game. His final words to Os before the holidays make me ponder.

    DISLIKED

–Lee coming in and demanding that Jim be arrested for Mario’s death in full on Widow’s Weeds. Good gravy but I am so OVER all the Jim/Lee/misc other drama. Like, I just straight up don’t care and the show continues to pay too much attention to this.

–In some ways, Jim was “more like a son to [Falcone] than Mario.” That seems rather hyperbolic.

    HOPEFUL THINKING

–All I want right now is one episode where Jerome and Tetch team up for the most mental episode ever.
