Bonus question! How would have changed this season? What would you have written instead (even if you loved most of this arc, what would you have done?)
The idea of the Evil Queen coming to town and facing down a unified front, including Regina, and everyone having to battle their own demons feels like the final chapter in a long Hero’s Journey. We’ve battled and defeated the agent of Death, now here comes Chaos Incarnate to upset our happy home. Emma defeating the Evil Queen–preferably by reintegrating her with Regina–and saving her own Saviorhood, as well as the home she previously tried to run away from, is the perfect end to her story. She’s come home; she’s come into herself. Emma accepted her own identity and everything she is–mother, daughter, Savior, witch, Dark One, Light One. A complete circle–round and round it goes, until we arrive back home.
Why not make this entire season about Emma’s Saviorhood; keep the Evil Queen as Chaos Incarnate with a small helping of Jekyll and Hyde to provide commentary on the separation of self, which would provide a nice parallel to Emma wanting her Savior-side to be gone, but drop everything else and focus on the core: Emma’s internal struggle with this last bit of her journey–ultimate acceptance of herself.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"This episode does kind of feel like it’s stealing the wish dimension idea from Buffy. Even Hook seems like he has taken on some Spike-esque mannerisms.
Two other people brought this up but the plot of a son being stolen and raised in a hellish dimension by a black hat person only to come home and exact revenge on his father…is literally the plot of S3-4 of Angel.

Yes to both of Emma’s parents. But when they went under the curse Emma reminded the audience that the Oracle had told her things could change.

Which means that Rumple–a Rumple who apparently saw his son come back fall in love, have a child, die and STILL Rumple wants the dark curse cast…?–is real. I dunno. Will he come to SB? I sorta doubt it.

I definitely think it was heavy foreshadowing. But I’m not sure it’s the result of David’s wish because is this what she deserves? To be a snake…? Magic is funny in that way so it’s possible.

Jafar did turn someone into a snake (staff) so…interesting.

We assume but then why Robin? Why is Neal dead? Even if her wish world is “I’m with Hook” (which, curiously, she isn’t) then why have her wish world be one where Henry never even knew Neal?

Good news: in Emma’s wish world she and Neal still loved one another.
Bad news: in Emma’s wish world neal is dead, never knew Henry and apparently hook will be appearing soon in a scene eddy called his favorite
