It’s not that they couldn’t transform Jared into Rumple, of course they could. It’s that 1) they already had a young Rumple who was not Jared and 2) Jared playing RC playing Rumple is a very big task and would confuse the HECK out of the audience. No matter how much they play around with Jared’s makeup, to look like young Rumple he would still look like Jared and thus Henry. Also, A and E have said in panels and tweets and interviews that PP WAS LOOKING FOR HENRY, not an older version of himself which is confusing and complicated and would drive away viewers.

Jared does look like a young RC, but that doesn’t mean anything in the context of this show, just that the casting director is a genius. Every time A and E answer questions about S3, they refer to Henry as the person PP wants. And I don’t know how PP could be Rumple is Rumple is currently on the JR sailing toward NL to fight PP. No time travel in this show, A and E have been clear on that.

Sadly there are some inconsistencies (The Return speech from Rumple and the Apple) but not one so blatant as young Rumple being PP and meeting his older self.

Exactly. I’ve always been on board with that theory. It would explain how August knew Neal was Bae after the BF theory was killed. Then we would just need to work in Jefferson.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"I think my logic behind Belle being in 303 is that if Young Pinocchio and Grace are in that episode it almost has to be set in SB and I don’t know why we wouldn’t see SB without Belle. Unless, you’re right and it’s Henry’s “coming to SB” story in which case…no wait. Pinocchio wouldn’t be there. Grace would but not young Pinocchio. So it has to be present day.

And while Jared is growing as an actor I don’t know if he has the chops to play a young Rumple. One of the worries that many expressed when they announced PP was that he was too young, he couldn’t stand up against RC’s Rumple and not look amateur and slightly comical. It’s also utterly confusing to suddenly make Henry young Rumple. While we non-normal viewers would be able to follow, we always have to keep the average viewer in mind. Could they follow that line of thought without becoming confused? I don’t know. It’s asking a lot from an audience when you’re already giving your own spin on such classic stories as PP and NL. I’m not saying there aren’t parallels between Rumple and PP but that’s good storytelling and really just how myth works: archetypes and tropes and similarities. I think it’s a bit much to make Rumple a young PP too.
