KeymasterIn theory, we should know by the end of this episode if Hook is responsible for killing GrandpapaCharming or not.

KeymasterIf they shoot outdoors, we might be a hint as to how Robin is coming back.

KeymasterShe is seeing the outcome of what will happen if she uses the shears and severs herself from her “Savior Emma side”
Yes, though this begs the question, which part of Emma–Savior or non Savior–do we see getting stabbed? Emma kills the Savior side of her (the one that is constantly shaking) and her “non Savior” side lives. Except then Emma realizes she needs to be the Savior, that it’s part of her identity and the second half of S6 is about re-Savior-ing Emma.

Keymaster–Is this Deniz Akdeniz’s natural accent? Or is he doing a (bad) Cockney accent to demonstrate that Aladdin is more poor compared to Jasmine’s posh British accent?
Deniz Akdeniz is Australian.
I’m not sure that explains his accent honestly. I knew he “British” sounding but his accent sounded like he was playing up parts of it.

KeymasterNow if OUAT does go fractional by the end of the Fall, that could increase the possibility of it moving to 9pm
I’ve seen a lot of people speculating the same thing. The fanbase would follow but the question is would they follow LIVE or next day/later in the week. ABC has not exactly had any success with their 9pm shows but OUAT isn’t bringing in the 8pm crowd like it used to.

KeymasterI can take some stabs in the dark about motivation.
Ford: I think this is all about control. Every episode so far has brought up the Board that oversees Westworld and it’s pretty clear he does not have a good relationship with them (I suspect they are of the fat-lazy-cat variety and care more for profit than they do for whatever Ford’s original intentions were in creating the park, like tackling and unlocking human consciousness). He obviously has a huge ego–one that sees himself as a God in his own world, a God that is now being trodden upon by said Board. His new storyline and what he’s building will establish him as the sole ruler of Westworld, the Board be damned.
The Man in Black: I actually think he’s the most honest of all the characters. It’s a nihilistic type of honesty, but it’s honesty. He’s bored. He’s read the same book day after day for 30 years; he k knows every sub plot, every twist and turn, except the ultimate last. It’s like…okay, have you ever a classic mystery novel? Think Agatha Christie. The reveal of the murderer and their entire explanation happens in one swell swoop typically at the very very end. What if you had a book like that but the last page, the one that revealed the murderer and why he did everything he did, was missing? Wouldn’t it drive you somewhat nuts? (There’s a great episode of MASH that actually follows this exact plotline come to think about it.) The MiB doesn’t even try to hide what he’s after or how different he is from the rest of the world. He straight up tells Hector that he, Hector, is “market tested” and that’s why Hector exists. The MiB also goes around telling people that they are prisoners and he’s trying to find freedom. I don’t think he cares about them, but is so bored and nihilistic that he’s looking for the only escape left and if it means the Hosts get freed then so be it. (sidenote but what does freedom actually mean here? The more I think about it, the more I think that the Maze and freedom aren’t literal but figurative. The Maze is more about unlocking human consciousness and freedom is less about leaving the Park–we know the guests can leave after all–and more about freedom from something less tangible)

Keymaster1×04 “Dissonance Theory”
–Not a whole lot to say this week but a few observations.
1) Lots of chatter about gods and religion this week (which excites me to no end!). Ford felt like a god in his world little world, he controls every aspect of it and by extension he knows everything. But this isn’t a benevolent, kind god. He’s dictatorial and cruel. And WHAT on god’s green earth is he building???? Seriously what was popping up out of the ground?
2) The MiB made several references to the fact that he’s “here to set people free” because they are all in prison. It’s sort of…Savior language. He’s still a nasty piece of work but what he’s trying to figure out, the story he wants to discover, is likewise what Dolores is trying find: freedom. While the MiB probably does not have altruistic intentions, his efforts could help the Hosts gain consciousness and freedom. Does anyone else think the Maze might be more figurative than literal? Bernard teased it as a game at the top of the hour but what you get out of the game–freedom–sounded less like a literal freedom and more like metaphorical freedom.
3) Finally we get the idea that the Natives have turned their memories or their past recollections of the game workers into Gods. Shades, men who walk between worlds, are part of their religion because that’s the only way their mind can conceive of these memories. It must be otherworldly because their world does not have “science” and “technology” the likes of which the extremely modern world of Ford and Bernard has (speaking of, what year do we imagine Westworld is in??)
–Dolores is heading down the “bicameral mind” route of last week. She adapted her speech about being bigger on the inside from a script about love but it’s closer to metaphorical language, complex ideas than we’ve heard from her before. Is anyone else wondering about the time frame? When are she and Bernard having these conversations? She woke up back with William and Logan.
— Therese says that the Board has already sent in their representative—is it Logan? I think so. His “family” keeps getting teased and he clearly knows his way around the Park. Plus his line “it’s always business” was a bit on the nose.

KeymasterIs it just ABC that is struggling, or is the trend that ratings for most shows are declining across the board?
Broadcast is in serious trouble, yes. That’s why shows are renewing shows that are getting such low ratings, because 1) you can’t cancel everything and 2) as low as OUAT is going (and sure to go lower) it’s still higher than a number of other shows; it has a pretty loyal viewer base and it will still bring in money. There was a time, not that long ago actually, when a show that got a 1.0 would be chopped for sure.

KeymasterWe have four episodes left to go in this first half of S6. I suspect we’ll see fractional before episode 10.
I just don’t know how much these ratings matter anymore, given how many people are watching shows in different ways. The show used to be really popular on Netflix for example and probably still is. I know so few people, myself included, who watch stuff live anymore.
They matter. Is Neilsen outdated? Of course. But ratings = ad money. And ad money is all ABC cares about. They do keep track of other ways people watch but watching on Netflix or watching in other ways doesn’t matter if people aren’t watching ads which bring in revenue.

Keymasterwhat about Designator survirvor and the comedies they have, so do great numbers, right?
DS was not on this past week due to the third Presidential debates, however it has been performing fairly well. Comedies matter less to OUAT.
