KeymasterThe big question is if the effects of the shears can be undone. We’ve seen Emma lose her magic before back in 3B, but eventually she was able to regain it. Could the same be the case with Aladdin?
Maybe if he *wishes* (ahem) really hard?
OR, possibly more likely, there’s a reason why we didn’t get a Aladdin/Jasmine kiss tonight. Cue one TLK for the couple.

KeymasterMy main question is does everyone believe that Jasmine is actually interested in Aladdin romantically or is she just using him to defeat Jafar?
Well that would certainly be a twist. I’m not so sure they’d mess with an iconic Disney couple like that. They tend to leave them alone (Rumbelle isn’t exactly the Disney story, after all. Rumple is the Beast but the Beast is not Rumple, if you get what I’m saying.)
But for everyone else, Snow and Charming; Cinderella and her Prince; Aurora and Philip; Ariel and Eric; Aladdin and Jasmine; even Meg and Hercules to a much lesser extent…they’re all kept properly Disney.

KeymasterI just think it’s weird that they again mentioned Rumple’s haircut in this episode and then introduced shears that can cut your fate.
I don’t think it has anything to do with his haircut (which is an external, out of universe event that had to be addressed in show) but I do think that if the shears resurface, it won’t be for Emma but perhaps for Rumple who will use them to cut his own fate as the Dark One somehow. Oh gosh. Does it cleave him from the dagger?

Keymaster–I’m really disappointed that Aladdin used the Shears. I guess he serves as a foil to Emma but there’s still no advancement in the Savior mythos; Aladdin has nothing to offer Emma except a way out.
Or a way to activate all of the potential saviors for the finale!
Oh sure. Let’s just go straight up Buffy S7. Why not.

KeymasterGENERAL: This episode was fine. So far I haven’t been blown away and completely stunned by any episode. They’re all fine but not without issues in writing and character. This episode was no different. I don’t think we got much information in the way of Savior mythos outside of what we already knew–Aladdin is the Savior and all Saviors are doomed to die. And frankly his reason for why he’s the Savior– “thief with a heart of gold” –might match Disney canon but it does nothing to explain Emma and her condition and the Saviors at large. Are Saviors then individualized per kingdom? Are there any common threads besides “magic.”
Rating: It’s really hard for me to rate episodes like this because smaller stuff is good but the overall storytelling isn’t great. I guess a 6/10
LIKED
–Karen David looks stunning in the blue outfit.
–I agree with Archie; running through the woods is not an effective form of therapy. Emma, sit down and actually *talk* about your problems. Here’s a hint–they go far beyond your current visions.
–Aladdin calling Jasmine out on only caring about the welfare of the Kingdom once her own family was affected. The myopic vision of the royals is an ongoing issue on this show (poor peasants)
–Aladdin did the apple thing!
–Aladdin uses a monkey statue to get the diamond; Abu for the win!
–“If the baby dies, you die!” Seems fair
–Another locator spell? Seriously, what up with those this season?
–The hourglass and breaking of Jafar’s staff are all pretty Disney!Iconic.
–“It made me a mother. It gave me a family. I have actual magic in my life. I have you.” That’s it. That’s what this show is supposed to be; the love of community that informs your identity. It’s nice when Emma actually remembers this instead of focusing on one aspect.
–“Why does magic always have to be so literal?” This line pleases me.
MIXED
–Is this Deniz Akdeniz’s natural accent? Or is he doing a (bad) Cockney accent to demonstrate that Aladdin is more poor compared to Jasmine’s posh British accent?
–While Emma is telling the room about the visions, she looks predominately at Hook as if the rest of the room doesn’t deserve her attention. Later, after getting assurance that Snow/Charming forgive her, all she cares about is Hook’s feelings while Henry seeks solace from a stranger. Things like this really and sincerely bother me because it focuses on Emma’ romantic relationship instead of her entire spectrum. They make up for it later with Emma and Henry in the cave but you have to look at the whole spectrum.
–I wish it was easier to establish when Jafar’s flashbacks are taking place. You get no hint about any of this in Wonderland which distresses me. I get it’s pre-Wonderland but that’s really broad and Jafar was always so focused on his mission–again no side adventures as a vizier in Agrabah’s capital city.
DISLIKED
–Shouting “Open Sesame!” in an over the top manner actually works to open the Cave of Wonders.
–How exactly did Jasmine figure out that it was Aladdin she needed? Has she been luring men to the Cave of Wonders to test them?
–The adorable cute bird shows Aladdin rivers of blood and a skeleton. Oooookay. And Aladdin just trusts the visions from a bird who sits on the shoulders of the kingdom’s evil tyrant because…?
–Count the MacGuffins! The Scarab, the “Diamond of the Rough,” the Sheers
–Aladdin and Jasmine’s romance is lightening fast, like all the new romances on the show these days. It works only because of Disney.
–I’m really disappointed that Aladdin used the Shears. I guess he serves as a foil to Emma but there’s still no advancement in the Savior mythos; Aladdin has nothing to offer Emma except a way out. Also he’s been in SB the entire time! Of course!
–Emma lies to Hook. And Hook lies to Emma. Such a healthy relationship.

KeymasterBravo to Sean for being pretty upfront on a lot of stuff.

KeymasterStealthy? Lana as Regina? I feel like every time there’s an on location shoot now, we seem to get more and more confused than the last time. To think that there was once a time when we knew exactly what was happening.
If it was just Stealthy, I’d say Regina ended up in some sort of limbo (sort of like the theory you proposed elsewhere) and that’s where she sees Robin who helps her return topside. The fact that the rest of the dwarves are there is…perplexing.

KeymasterSo did anyone end up watching the new spin off, Class? BBC3 dropped the first two episodes online. Thoughts?
I’d give the show, so far, a solid B. It fits pretty nicely into the DW universe and there are some common threads but it’s a bit younger in theme and execution than DW. Still, it was a fun romp.
Now can I have DW back please?

KeymasterI’m guessing the first scene was Lana as the EQ with Stealthy being there?
