The good news is that Supergirl did well for the CW–a 1.1 in the demo

The final adjusted ratings are in for ‘The Other Shoe’. Unfortunately we adjusted down to a 1.2. This is still .1 better than last week though.

That’s rather surprising giving the half hour break downs.

I don’t think they are that separate at all. I think the EQ just has no filter; she is passion (in all its forms) overflowing with all that entails

It looks like what Hyde is holding in his hand is some sort of locket with a picture of a woman on it. A lost love perhaps? (points if she’s called Lenore) I could be wrong but it looks like a portrait of a woman on the necklace.

Probably; 9/10 it comes down to some sort of lost love.

I’m guessing time moves forward–the sun rises and sets–but biological time has stopped. It’s like the Curse of s1.  Astrological time was unaffected but human’s responses to astrological time changed, the only real difference is that the characters in the Land of Untold Stories are aware of and agree to this change. The Cursed people of SB did not.

    Supergirl 2×01

    –Welcome to the CW, Kara!

–LOL at all the meta jokes about “this place is like the old one, maybe better.”

–So when they announced that Superman would be coming to the season premiere, I was really against it. One of the things that made S1 of Supergirl stand out was its decidedly feminist approach. The most important relationships were all female focused: Kara and Alex; Kara and Cat; Kara and her aunt and mother and arguably most important…Kara and Supergirl. To add Superman into the mix felt like a step back because when Kara’s much more famous male cousin shows up, the spotlight is going to go on him. Well, when I’m wrong, I say it. OMG can we keep him??? Kara and Clark were adorable. Like, beyond adorable. I love the way the actor played Clark as the charming, slightly oafish, neebish reporter whom Kara used to change diapers and babysit. She wasn’t in awe of her cousin and deferring to him, but he never doubted her or tried to take over her hero duties. He didn’t diminish her or steal her thunder. It worked so well. It’s such a nice change from the DC movie verse that is so heavy and dreary.

–Kolsen. This is my big complaint about this episode. Kara’s sudden 180 about James was clunky as all get out. Why did she suddenly change her mind after a year of wanting something more from James? Was it because she’s trying to figure herself out or because the TV execs want to go another direction? At any rate, I’m not too thrilled with this one aspect of the episode.

–If the first season was all about Supergirl trying to be the best superhero she could be, this episode suggests that it’s Kara’s turn. How does Kara be Supergirl without losing sight of Kara Danvers, young slightly socially awkward up and comer in a media? I like that the show is eager to develop that side of her as well.

Also, i think an incident with the robots was mentioned as happening in the past, so he has been playing at this for awhile

Yes, as if he’s trying to perfect his robots in order to achieve perfect humans–ironic given that he’s writing their personalities, their little nuances, everything that makes Human A different from Human B and makes us unperfect. He’s definitely the Frankenstein trope of scientist meets God complex but I can’t stop thinking about his interaction with the child Host. We saw that Ford can clearly control all aspects of the Park, including dismissing the kid Host when Ford was done with him (it?). So that makes me think that he ensured that the kid would be the one to meet Ford when he entered the park; again, he clearly likes having total control over his creations. So…why this kid? The creation he chose to interact with wasn’t a whore, it wasn’t a gunslinger, it wasn’t even Dolores, the good girl. It was a bored kid. This is where @nevermore’s above point about duality comes back in–both Ford and the Man in Black are bored but where Ford keeps creating new “life” and apparently has a whole new project in the works, the Man in Black will destroy everything that stands in his path of achieving his ends without thought of the loss of life whereas Ford seems contemplative and sad at decommissioning his creations because to him, there’s still so much to create and do with them.

Where they are alike though is that they see these lives as toys to control, to change, to play with even if for different purposes.

Another good episode tonight. I thought the moral complexity of saving Lincoln vs not saving Lincoln was exactly what the show should have been exploring in this episode so bravo to them. Rufus got some nice moments trying to explain why it was so important to save Lincoln.

    A few notes

–So my current theory is that Flynn is from the far future; sometime past 2016 when America has pretty much imploded into a post apocalyptic hellscape. His conversation with Lucy was pretty impassioned that he’s trying to SAVE America, not end it. I just don’t get why these events, why change these things

–Really nice hook at the end that Lucy’s dad was never biological father. So who is it? That’s a mystery that they’re clearly building up to a big shock.

–Fiancee: someone we need to monitor?

    –Rat Pack next week!

    –Who are Rittenhouse?

The Dopey explanation is so clearly to shut the fans up, though Grumpy’s comeback to Emma was good. It was rude of her just to barge in like that. What if it had been a patient who was starting to open up about some deep seated trauma? Emma would have wrecked that moment of release for them.

I did not pay that close of attention …. Did Archie’s office have a reception area? If not I can understand how EMMA invaded Grumpy’s appointment. I was thinking that Archie practiced out of his home and Emma entered directly into the living room when she entered…. BUT I REALLY COULD BE WRONG… will not know for sure until I rewatch. . .

    Quote

Archie works out of an office and whether or not he has a secretary is a moot point. You do not barge into a shrink’s office unannounced–those sessions are confidential by morality and by law. As soon as she saw Grumpy, Emma needed to leave and come back another time. That is his paid hour of time to talk about his issues. The fact that Archie made Grumpy leave to deal with a “more interesting” client is equally horrifying. I get that this is Emma’s show and she needs development vis a vis talking with Archie but the solution is simple: don’t have Grumpy there in the first place! The only reason he was there to was to drop the Dopey line which was written as a way to satisfy fan anger after the actor left/quit the show in a pretty public manner. The beginning of that scene makes Emma look egotistical and rude; it makes Archie look unprofessional (which he is since he got his degree from a curse) and equally rude.
