    I think Adam and Eddy are honestly heavily relying on the willing suspension of disbelief, which is a plot mechanic which means “a willingness to suspend one’s critical faculties and believe the unbelievable; sacrifice of realism and logic for the sake of enjoyment.” It’s been around for a long time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspension_of_disbelief

    I know the mechanic and for a lot of things I am willing to do it (like, being able to put a baby into a tree and have it transport realms) because it’s part of the mythology of the story (magic exists and this tree and this child are important). But stuff that would add to their world and clarify their world I shouldn’t have to suspend for. I mean, the ideas @sciencevsmagic proposed are quite interesting and would add a certain fleshed out feeling to the ONCEiverse. It would spark good thought provoking conversations.

    And, y’know, at what point is “suspension of disbelief” really code/a euphemism for “stop critically analyzing and engaging with the text, sheeple”

    Grey’s is still a strong contender given that they’ve lost some high profile cast members over the past 2-3 years (and even further if we want to count characters like Izzy and George) that would explode social media. Like, if Patrick Dempsey suddenly showed up tonight, Twitter might melt.

    @thedarkonedearie

    I do agree that they’ll never be able to win. We’ve moved past that stage in fandom when they’ll ever be able to mollify their audience and there are times when I do feel bad for them but at the same time I don’t because they bring so much of it on themselves by A) writing a show that is wholly inconsistent week to week in terms of world building, character, and themes and B) by poking the proverbial bear by passively-aggressively saying things like “seeing all 3,000 tweets every five seconds” because fans are upset over the, admittedly, unfair death of a, again admittedly, bland undeveloped character. I mean…wow. They might have to walk on eggshells because the fanbase will attack them for just about anything, but they don’t help matters. There is no hard nor fast rule, no law, that states they have to be as active on Twitter as they are–they can only tweet out titles and script teases and save all of us a bit of a headache.

    In one move they can claim that they love their fans, have the best, most passionate fans in the world, and then turn around and mock/criticize said fandom for daring to speak up and out. They like us and appreciate us when we’re fans. When we’re not behaving in a manner they deem “fanlike” then we’re a nuisance, obnoxious, demanding and annoying.

    (and hey, I’m not giving the fandom a pass. This is the most toxic fanbase I’ve ever seen with some truly eyeroll worthy behavior)

    I know I’m broken record, and I know you actually agree with me, but they need to get off Twitter, they need to stop doing fan-run interviews (questions from fans and not TV people like Natalie or Matt M) because a good swath of the social-media based fandom is unhappy. It’s why SDCC has become such a listless affair over the past few years with tightly controlled, pre-screened questions. And it sucks because on the one hand, I like hearing from the creators, I like getting to hear their perspective on things, but on the other hand they always manage to say something insensitive, hostile, alarming (I’m still not over the whole ‘we have to change things once the audience figures it out’ debacle) or just plain stupid.

    The fact that there’s an actual FWOOSH written into the script amuses me

    if they’re strong enough, as reality itself via the birth of a person or an event

    I really like this idea in particular, but I’m not so sure A and E have that much understanding of philosophy or big heady ideas in general.  I suspect the questions we have about the nature of reality, fiction, ect will never be answered outside of “magic!”

    Guys, what if Shatner is the blimp pilot (erm, captain)

    We know that TV line is predicting that the guest and the show will be trending before the opening credits. We just saw that (most likely) the second scene–after Aladdin–is the arrival of the blimp. What if the very next scene is the captain of the blimp crashing and it’s Shatner.

    Neal/MRJ wouldn’t get the Twitter-spehere trending like the article is predicting. As much as I love Neal/MRJ (and y’all know how much I love my Nealfire….), he’s not it .

    In which case if it is OuaT, I’m voting William Shatner.
