KeymasterI’m not going to lie, Once Upon a Time fans, Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle) and Belle (Emilie de Ravin) have a rough road ahead of them this season.
Oh good! Cause I was bored to tears with their easy peasy path! I mean gosh! Why can’t these two struggle a little bit.

KeymasterIf Matt’s schedule ends up being what they do, I would be so very satisfied with that.
Same. The more I look it, the more I like it.

KeymasterSpeaking of child actors, while the ageing up of Ivy is still in the “RLY now is that necessary” basket, at least they did find a nice way of working the “how” of it into the story, by having that guy who ages people grab her for just a second before she fell.
Right; still not sure how I feel about the general story line but at least it’s not straight up “traumatized youth becomes sex kitten young adult over night!” The aging up at least makes sense with the power presented.

KeymasterMaybe something worth mentioning but ABC did announce that Scandal, which is being held until midseason because of Kerry Washington’s pregnancy, will return in January. If ABC is considering January the start of their midseason (as opposed to late February or March like it was pre-change in regime) then I think Matt’s schedule is even more likely.

KeymasterThat’s an amazing pic of Ginny and Josh as Snow and Charming. Really, lovely. (but like, when does this take place?)

KeymasterIt is bold for them to predict that it’ll be by February sweeps, though. They could have played it more safe by saying by the end of the Season.
Unless they are also predicting (but not saying) that they believe this to be the final season, in which a surprise death at the height of Sweeps will see the show through to the rest of the season.

KeymasterSo season premiere thoughts?
General: This is really a set-up episode; things in Gotham are girm(er) and bleak(er) as usual and the only true shift in the show’s paradigm is that Jim has gone rogue and finally left GCPD. I guess we’re supposed to understand that Gotham is at an all time low (if only Baby!Batman would grow up faster!) and that it’s going to get worse (and crazier) before it gets better. What I did like is that my usual complaint–tonal shifts between arcs–seems to have vanished. All the arcs–Penguin, Jim, Baby!Batman, Baby!Catwoman and Fish–are all similar in tone and approach, with no one character going off on their own little jaunt that has nothing to do with the larger stories (like Penguin last year).
LIKED
–Jamie! Mulan, AKA: Valerie! I shall continue to think she’s Mulan and that she finally escaped the ONCEiverse and changed her name to Valerie.
–“I get drunk when I want…I sleep. Cause saving Gotham isn’t my job anymore..” This is an interesting new take on Jim. He’s been “dark” before but not “morose” and here’s he’s almost without hope; a vigilante before Gotham’s Baby!Batman can grow up. In order to be the hero Gotham needs, can you do it alone? Subtle foreshadowing for Batman too.
–LOL at Penguin bringing Nygma a puzzle box, a sweater, and biscuits. Like some sort of bizarre married couple.
–I really do need to reiterate my love for Ed Nygma. Please let the season use him well.
–“Pancakes?” “Pancakes!”
DISLIKED
–Leah moved on that quickly? It was only a few weeks in between leaving Gotham and when Jim went to find her, right? I mean, I’m not shamming her but that seems awfully fast and convenient and really a disservice to her character–we don’t get to see any of her emotional journey from former pregnant fiancee to this new happy lady. Is the actress not on the show anymore? (no, she’s in the PR)
–It completely escaped my notice that Tabitha was on the show as a regular. UGH. She has no color or definition or anything outside of “sex kitten into kink”
–What on earth is Fish wearing?? What is that cape??
UNSURE OF
–Storylines about kidnapped Bruce Wayne annoy me. He’s in no real danger. Spoiler alert: he’s Batman someday! So when he’s kidnapped (again!) I sort of roll my eyes because there are no stakes in a plot like this. But I’ll see where it goes.
–Still really confused by Clone!Baby!Batman

KeymasterIt is interesting that THIS is the prediction TVLine came up with, though. There are ones that are faaaaar more obvious or at least seem far more liekly: like a wedding (CS) or another secret family member (there’s always another secret family member on this show!)
TVLine writers obviously pay attention to all the stuff going on (rumors, actor comments, directions in narrative) like we do and they seem to be coming to the same conclusion: another cast member will exit.

KeymasterI wonder if the Blue Fairy knows Aladdin or Jafar. That is the flashback in this episode, right?
They only watch dailies for the current episode–which right now is episode 8 (I’ll be your mirror). I don’t think we know yet what flashback that is, but Karen and the guy who plays Aladdin got on a plane out of Vancity around episode…6? They said they’d be back but I haven’t seen word of them being back in Vancity yet

KeymasterYeah, but can they really get rid of Rumpel. Also, if they did, i don’t see how they keep Belle around. I mean if the actor wants to go then he wants to go. I just don’t know how they keep Belle without him.
I think they can if this is the final season. Same with Belle–if it’s the final season she’ll just be even more of a background character than she already is. Bring her back in the finale to show that she’s raising their son to be a bookish and kind little boy and done.
