I think it’d be more more interesting to watch two former “villains” become one happy unit.

Agreed. Ive been of the opinion that Hook and Regina would eventually have to get together because of how similar they are. I’m willing to get through CaptainSwan (because I think falling in love with someone else is what will set Hook on a path of redemption) and Regina’s own redemption arc before they finally realize that they’re good together but I think it might be where it’s headed perhaps toward the end of S3, beginning of S4. CaptainEvil? CaptainQueen?

WhaleWolf/FrankenWolf YES! I love the idea of playing with that.
Glad he’s returning, I think it means that most of SB is going to journey to Neverland, not just the main cast. I think SB, Maine is going to become a ghost town, with the exception of the news vans that roll in just as the heroes jump into a vortex.

Boy, I hope we don’t see any more of that Dr Frankstein stuff

I don’t think we are this season, but I’m pretty sure they have at least one more story to tell about Dr. F: how he lost his brother, because we do know that at some point his brother died after he was brought back. I’m sure we’ll see that in S3 at some point. Though I agree with you, the two Dr. F stories weren’t my favorites this season. Everything I liked about “The Doctor” and “In the Name of the Brother” had nothing to do with the actual Frankenstien story.

I predict either by season’s end of the very beginning of season 3, like within the first few episodes. He’s the perfect introduction to Neverland.

here is a scene where it turns out I can’t give Rumple what he wants. It was an incredibly emotional scene for both of us, and it was really beautiful. That scene stood out for me, probably my favorite.

She is going to break his heart. SHE MUST DIE. OK? SHE MUST DIE. 👿 👿 👿 👿

I think the scene she is actually referring to is how she refuses to give up Regina to him.

I actually think it’s a mix of the two. I think Rumple wants Cora and baby Regina to come with him and she flat out refuses to go with him and refuses to give him Regina. And thus, the feud.

I think Dark Emma might be explored at some point, if not with this story. This is how I see it playing out: at some point Emma’s going to start learning magic, probably from Rumple. We’ve all seen how magic is a lot like a drug, the power is very intoxicating. I can see Emma becoming very enamored of magic (much like Regina did) and exploring the dark side of magic. However, I don’t think that exploration will last for very long because I think the show has set Emma up to a be a very powerful force for good, her being the offspring of true love AND the savior and all. Dark Emma would be fun to watch and I hope they explore it maybe S3 or even S4 but, eventually she’s going to be working for the good side.

One final comment (for now) on this first act…thank God it looks like Regina is finally getting a clue! There were definitely cogs starting to turn in her head in that scene.

Agreed!! Something tells me that before episodes end, Regina will finally realize that Cora has had her own agenda this entire time and it has nothing to do with Henry.

I’m just gonna jump in here with the “one true love thing”
Just because you only have one true love, it doesn’t mean you can’t love many people. Obviously Hook and Regina found their one true love but something terrible happened, but they are capable of loving again. And it can be just as deep and fulfilling as Milah/Daniel. But, I think, the reason true love gets so much attention is because of its power, namely in breaking curses. It’s like when Charming was in the red room and could only be woken up by Snow, it had to be TLK.
I know it’s something they want to explore and who knows: maybe they’ll flesh it out so that you can have more than one? Take Emma for instance: mother’s TLK woke up Henry, but some might say Neal is her true love, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t have feelings for Graham or won’t have feelings for Hook.
And I think you even made a similar point when you wrote

They explicitly talked then about Regina, and Eddy said: “I would hate to live in a world without the hope that you could fall in love again if you lost someone you loved already.” Adam Horowitz added that they like to explore the nature of love on the show and not just the romantic kind.

Of course you can fall in love again after your one true love die or somethgn! Regina and Hook would be totally screwed if you couldn’t. But again, if you can have more than ONE true love, I think it cheapens those that have already found one true love. Like Snowing. Does that mean that Charming has another one true love out there? Does Snow? It opens that door and frankly that worries me. How many episodes in season one was one true love or TLK harped on? Many many many.
Also, Myril: I’m sorry if you felt like we (or I) jumped on you for questioning Rumbelle. This is the sad reality of shows like this, when you ship, you ship hard and if it happens to be your OTP (as Rumbelle is for me) you tend to come down hard. Sorry for that. These boards are supposed to be fun places for open and honest discussion and sometimes things get heated.
In regards to what you said about Ruby: we don’t actually know that Peter was her one true love. He could have been, but from just that one episode all we know is that they were boyfriend/girlfriend and cared for each other a great deal. But, for all we know, her one true love hasn’t been discovered yet.

In other news: its Saturday. Miller’s Daughter is tomorrow. REJOICE.

Good point. No use in debating whether or not Rumpel and Cora would have made a good couple. It’s in the past and they’re currently trying to destroy each other, so the obvious answer is no. I remember Rumbelle fans getting all riled up when they found out about Rumpel’s first wife Milha, but we all saw how that ended. 😆

lol. I just wrote this super long essay on true love and really An Empty Heart and Midnight Dreary have it spot on: it doesn’t matter. I think we all know who’s dying on Sunday and that Rumbelle is safe and secure (once we get past this whole memory road block) and that they are true love and soul mates and gosh darn it: will live happily ever after!!

Myril: well, there is no doubt that there is an attraction between Cora and Rumple and they do understand each other in ways Belle may never understand given her inherent goodness. Cora and Rumple are drawn to each other because they want the same things: power. And in that regard their souls are very much alike, but I think the term soul mate is, first and foremost, incredibly subjective. In my opinion a soul mate or true love (and I’m not saying that those two things are the same, though I might argue that OUaT has set it up that way) makes you want to be a better person. It doesn’t automatically make you the better, but it gives you something to strive for. So, I go back to the Rumbelle sneak peak where a dying Rumple tells Belle “you made me want to go back, back to best version of myself.” For the first time in probably his entire life, Rumple’s first thoughts aren’t of himself, they are of other people. You said they don’t bring out the best in him. Well, first, I don’t think they’ve had the chance, at least not fully. But think about the scene on Hook’s ship in “The Outsider.” Belle got Rumple to walk away from killing Hook. If Belle really had died, or hadn’t reminded him that she sees good in him, even when he never sees it himself, no question: Hook would have died. It’s a struggle with him, no doubt, but she does it. She brings out the good in people and like Rumple said in the sneak peak (paraphrasing): “when there is no good, you make it.” Going back to Cora and Rumple:it appears that it’s “what can you do for me?” Cora can give him Regina who will eventually cast the curse. He sees people only in relation to himself. Even with Bae, in “A Desperate Soul” he says if they take his son away he will truly turn to dust. it’s not about Bae, it’s about Rumple. Now obviously we haven’t seen the Miller’s Daughter episode yet but I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s along the same lines. If he asks Cora to come away with him, because he’s in love with her, the lines will probably be something like “come away with me and your power with mine will make me unstoppable.” But with Belle, starting with the episode “The Crocodile” and that unforgettable library scene, it becomes about someone else.
I could keep going but eventually it would turn into a Rumbelle love fest. 😉
So I do understand what you’re saying about our sort of romanticized view of the term soul mate and how in reality sometimes your love actually turns you into a terrible person and it’s really not all sunshine and daises. BUT…in this conceptual world the writers of OUaT have built, it does make you a better person because this is, and always has been, a world about magic, fairy tales, and everything that is not “real world.” There is a reason why TLK is the cure to all curses, why they harp on one true love’s (which again I think the writers are saying you do only have one, but you can love multiple people–but only have one true love). It goes back to genre: that’s how fairy tales work.

And then, in the sneak peek from ‘the Miller’s Daughter’, he does it again. He’s dying, he has to talk to Belle – but it’s not to make himself feel better. He calls her because it’s the final thing that he can do for her. He doesn’t talk about himself at all, except in relation to her. It’s the polar opposite of when she was existing only in relation to him: now he matters only as he relates to her and who she is. As he says, she makes him want to be the best version of himself – and the scene illustrates exactly how and why.

That’s exactly why I love that sneak peak so much. It’s perfect; it’s possibly the most unselfish thing Rumple has done since we met him. The evolution of the Rumple character is beautiful and breathtaking.
