KeymasterIt’s not about any particular scene, though. It’s about Adam and Eddy backtracking at a moments notice, without any sense of order or rules. They have no respect for us or our intelligence. They simply expect us to be sheep-people and bleet happily even if what they’re giving us is garbage. I mean, a book that claims Camelot must be portal’d to from the EF and is not a broken kingdom is canon but a deleted scene of–and take your pick here–genuine character building isn’t at least loose canon is nonsense.
Okay, the fact that the GA doesn’t always buy the DVDs and wouldn’t know about the deleted scenes is a good point, but 90% of these deleted scenes aren’t actually plot related or helpful outside of just sweet character moments. It’s not like the deleted scenes explain the show. The fact that they’re deleting character moments anyway is already absurd when the show is almost, now, wholly lacking in them, but there’s nothing wrong with keeping these scenes as little canonical bits when the majority of those scenes make their characters look human and not like stick figure cutouts being puppeted around.
I’ve watched the “Neal’s greatest gift” deleted scene and I didn’t feel that it contradicted much of anything, honestly. Emma felt guilt over seeing her first, old love while searching for her new love (which she did) and Neal “said it was okay” (which he did in some way–telling her he knew he couldn’t stop her but he had to try and he knew Emma would have brought him back if she could). It wasn’t about saying it was okay to go to the Underworld, but it was okay to love again.

KeymasterEmma did say that Neal said it was okay but in regards to the guilt Emma felt for loving again, not necessarily JUST about going to get Hook.
It’s not even just that scene that I’m angry about–it’s a collection of all of them PLUS the the fact that Adam and Eddy can change the rules when they like, how they like, without ever having to explain themselves or let us in on their logic. It really goes back to what I said about trust. I liked the deleted scene in S5B and I liked the deleted scenes from previous seasons but it’s more about their total disregard for anything they’ve said previously and their lack of respect for their audience and our intelligence.

KeymasterThe novels are still canon (the novels that, you know, claim Camelot is an entirely different realm that you have to portal to!)
canon — they were vetted / supervised by writing staff
— Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) August 16, 2016
Apparently still canon because supervised by the writing staff.
The deleted scenes of the TV show, as we all know, were in fact written by monkeys and NOT the writing staff!

KeymasterMmkay. I need to have a bit of a rant.
So I spent most of today going through the S5 DVD for the podcast review and there’s one really great deleted scene between Regina and Emma. In it, Emma and Regina are talking about Daniel and Regina insists she’s moved on (with Robin) and Emma gives the really telltale line, “moving on and getting over someone aren’t the same things” which is more of less what a lot of people here have been saying for a really long time. It was a great moment that emphasized how much Emma loved Neal (she then told Regina about her Neal-vision in the 100th) and it was actually a pretty moving scene.
Now, for the ranty bit. I know some will disagree with me about what is canon exactly but logistically, Adam has said for years (and even said yesterday—yes, YESTERDAY) that scenes included on the DVD are canon. That’s been the policy for awhile now. If it’s on the DVD, they consider it canon and they try to only include scenes on the DVD that they want considered canon.
So tonight, imagine my shock and surprise when Adam tweets out that none of the scenes on the DVDs–not just S5 but ALL of them–are not canon because they’ve “reclassified” and decided this is what is best.
So. The aforementioned scene? Not canon. That scene of Emma giving Henry the necklace? Not canon. That scene of Neal telling Henry about Neverland? Not canon. That scene of Neal teaching Henry to steer the ship? Not canon. Even their beloved Hook and Jello scene? Not canon. Even those little scenes that help explain the timeline and magical issues….? Not canon.
It angers me not only as a ride-or-die Neal fan and Swanfire shipper but also as someone who loves TV/narrative. Like, how on god’s green earth am I supposed to trust ANYTHING these guys write or say when they change their mind at the drop of a hat, whatever the reason? How do they expect us to have a dialogue (and all media is a dialogue) if they don’t stick to certain statements, rules and are constantly backtracking for reasons that we aren’t privy whenever it’s convenient for them!
Yeah, a lot of deleted scenes are cut because of time but a lot of them are also really endearing and sweet and are the much missed character moments! And even if they weren’t, can we pick a policy and STICK to it, please and thank you!?
Ugh. That is all.

Keymaster(Also — for those wondering — deleted scenes are NOT canon… They are to give you an insight into our creative process to develop eps)
— Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) August 16, 2016
Mmkay.
Just as a friendly reminder that this is what Adam said in the past…
@Sy_itwillbefine if they appeared on DVD, they should be canon.
— Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) September 2, 2013
AND what Adam said just yesterday!
we try to only release ones we consider "canon"
— Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) August 15, 2016
Apparently they are reclassifying.
@Sy_itwillbefine we are re-classifying. So we can include more material. Allows us to show fans more
— Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) August 16, 2016
@JmosDocGal the truth is we've decided this is the best policy
— Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) August 16, 2016
I have now gone back and looked and decided with eddy this is best and most accurate way
— Adam Horowitz (@AdamHorowitzLA) August 16, 2016
(these guys need some serious courses in philosophy, writer/audience relationship, and some good ol’ fashioned “The Author is Dead” Barthes)
This is so obviously a reactionary response to something he’s nervous about–some scene that is causing grief in the fandom.

Happy 8:15 Day.

KeymasterJasmine looks like she might be a school teacher. I’m thinking that perhaps she was bought over with first or second Dark Curse and that’s how her and Aladdin got separated.
She can teach Women’s Studies or Middle Eastern History.

KeymasterHmm… so technically… was the knight with Cruella Once’s first Flash-FORWARD given that it takes place 50 years in the future?
that’s interesting. Whats also interesting is that Arthur is still there and ruling over the underworld. I would have guessed he’d have moved on after 50 years.
Perhaps time moves differently in the underworld?
I didn’t in S5B.
On another note, I’ve seen all the special features for the podcast review we’ll be doing later this week. Random thoughts:
–Commentaries: Listened to the one for 5×22 so far. It’s fine. Some fun stuff. But it’s also a lot we already knew/suspected/have heard before.
–Bloopers: Some really cute and funny ones. Lots of Colin messing up.
–Deleted scenes: SQUID INK! Also, there’s one scene between Regina and Emma that really made me rage/happy/sad
–Merida in SB: She’s not actually in SB for this….but it’s a perfectly fine little feature that doesn’t tell us too much.
–Once Celebrates 100: Surprisingly short and un-special
–Cruella and Mordred: SHIP IT. SHIP IT. SHIP IT.

KeymasterThe news comes on the heels of David Anders’ announced encore as Dr. Whale/Dr. Frankenstein. Fold in Dr. Jekyll, and you have the trappings for a very unorthodox AMA conference.
LOL
Still no sign of Emma Rigby, though, which makes me wonder if Anastasia gets a reference/exposition explanation or not….

KeymasterAww she looks great. If she’s in SB, then I’m going to guess that Jasmine was in the Land of Untold Stories and was transported to SB via Hyde at the end of S5B. So how did she end up on Forgotten Character Island and how long was she there?
