Once Upon a Time | ‘Manhattan” — IMO, it’s the best hour of the season and one of the strongest since the pilot. And while some of you believe to have the mystery of Rumplestiltskin’s son all figured out, I shall relate a lesson Bae’s dad is about to learn from a sneaky seer: Just because you know what’s going to happen doesn’t mean you know what’s going to happen. I relayed a couple scooplets in Ask Ausiello, but here are more: Hook proves adept at translating treasure maps but less so at fending off witchy women; David and Mary Margaret have a rather hilarious conversation about their family tree and what Thanksgiving dinner might look like this year; a three-month-old mystery is solved; Cora, sporting a modern-day Maine makeover, has a tender talk with Regina; and a grim fate is surprisingly revealed for a major character. And if you look comparatively, during those big events like the Grammys or Superbowl, OUaT is the highest watched episode outside of those big events. So even though Tiny took a huge hit because of the Grammy’s, it was still the second most watched thing in it’s time slot on major networks. I think Manhattan will see a really big jump.

Maybe the only way to save Wooden August is to turn him into a boy again. Maybe it’s the only option.
I want to see how the writers handle this. Maybe this is a Pinocchio option only since in the original story Pinocchio had to be made a real boy. Didn’t one of the script excerpts have the Seer saying something about a difference between what can be and what will be? Perhaps, if there was a chance of Bae destroying FTL in the future, that was a chance she couldn’t take between “can” and “will”, she simply HAD to take precautions. In doing so, she ended up setting up Rumple finding the curse, which she may not have originally bargained for. Perhaps she’d only planned as far ahead as getting rid of Bae, then she suddenly found herself with the angry Rumple situation on her hands, (he was meant to go with Bae, so she may not have accounted for what actually happened), and had to think on her feet to guide and manipulate all the events beyond that moment as best she could.
I agree that she thought Rumple would be going with Bae and thus didn’t plan for the angry PapaRumple situation that lead to everything else. But I still go back to my major question that’s been plaguing me and led me down this rabbit hole of “the BF is hiding something:” What was she doing for 250 while Rumple put all this together? She got Bae away from Rumple, away from maybe his corrupting influences to save FTL but she could have done the same with Regina to ensure that Rumple could not use her the way he did. (and yes, I know, Blue said the bean she gave to Bae was the last of it’s kind but I think we can call LIES on that). It seems to me that she’s been sitting back and watching as Rumple plans to go after Bae, something that she couldn’t want IF the theory about Bae being worse than the Dark One pans out. And IF she’s behind getting Henry Jr to SB, why would she want that given that he’s Neal (Bae) son with the savior. That only invites Bae back into the lives of the fairy tale characters. Which all leads back to the question of what is her endgame. If she did want Bae out of the picutre, but was content to let Rumple scheme to get everyone to SB, then there is something else she’s hiding.

Just to mash up a few different ideas that have been proposed….
Let’s say that that’s their endgame reveal, that if Bae had stayed in FTL, he was destined to become some dark force even more powerful than The Dark One. It’s not something they’d reveal now, but perhaps it’s something they’re keeping in the vault for later…
So Blue knows this, and poses as the Seer, as a means to get into Rumple’s head, to set all of this stuff in motion that led to Bae leaving FTL…
A reveal in Manhattan that she was posing as the Seer, and totally played Rumple, would be seen as, “OMG SHE’S THE REAL BIG BAD,” even though she was actually doing it to save FTL from being destroyed by Bae in the long run.
That setup, where her actions look evil to the audience now, even though she’s actually working for the forces of good in the long run, is the kinda thing I was getting at with my previous post. It’d fit the spoiler, and also not make liars out of K&H.
That’s really interesting Phee. And it fits with the “there is no evil nor good on this show, only shades of gray” theme. Blue is working for the greater good but has to do what many of us would consider, if not outright evil, then not good. But it brings up the question of why Blue let the Curse be cast in the first place. If she’s powerful enough to foresee what Bae would become (which is really interesting and something I would never have even considered!) then why couldn’t she see what Rumple was going to do, what Regina would do and stop it. She offered Bae a way out of FLT but she never does the same for Regina, even though Regina/Bae Cora/Rumple dynamic is SO similar. Then what exactly is Blue’s endgame?

I’ve always thought that too but now I don’t know…Milah and Rumple did not stay together…and Bae really hasn’t had a good time of it. I mean last season (even though everyone was under the curse) just didn’t seem as hopeless to me…this season just seems dark…I mean the Rumbelle thing was almost more than I could take…now Swanfire.
I know happy endings are supposed to be just that…endings but I expect some happy along the way as well. We got happy with Swanthief in the beginning but by the end of the episode it was destroyed and now they aren’t even going to give us the little bit of happy reconciliation before they tear that away. Even Rumbelle got more than that (not much…but a little more). lol maybe I should just stick with Snow and Charming…seems the only romance with any lasting happiness in it.
Well, I think the major difference with Milah and Rumple is that they weren’t each others True Love. I do think he loved Milah (and now it’s possible that she loved him as we will see in Manhattan) but she wasn’t his true love. That idea is something they’re going to explore more, I feel, because you have characters like Hook and Regina who have lost their true loves but are still major characters that you can’t deprive of relationships on a show like this (which is why I ship the two of them together, eventually).
But I know what you mean. The Rumbelle things that have happened starting with The Outsider just flat out HURT. And while I know Belle will eventually get her memories back, the waiting is terrible. And besides Snowing, which I’ve never doubted would work out because despite all their problems they are Snow White and Prince Charming, the only one I ship super hard is SwanFire. *You hear that Power that Be! Unfortunately I questioned whether Neal was her end game romance when they did not make MRJ a regular. Which really bites since they went out of their way to make it such a wonderful romance in Tallahassee but then they are going to make Milah and Rumple’s seem good as well. Well at least I’m prepared for disappointment…that’s why I check out spoilers…to brace myself.
The actress that plays Tamara is also on The Walking Dead…maybe I’ll get lucky and see her eaten by a zombie 😈 lol or I’ll just imagine that every time I see her on screen with Neal.
I’m trying so hard to not hate this lady we know almost nothing about. lol.
Well on the SwanFire front: I think having Henry be such a major character means they are going to try to keep SwanFire together.
