KeymasterIt really is starting to sound like Belle is being deboxed sooner rather than later

KeymasterAnd yeah, I also think much of this had to do with the fact that A and E are not only incompetent storytellers,
Yes. That’s the root cause.
We’ve often said this before but Neal’s death could have actually been a worthwhile story if they were to ease up off the throttle of PLOT all the time and really have it be a character study of loss and regret–told from Rumple, Emma, and Henry’s perspectives. It’s the fact that A and E simply couldn’t write anything that was believable and heartfelt and worthy of killing off one of the heart’s of the show that speaks volumes.

KeymasterAre you kidding me?
So let me get this straight. Adam and Eddy are actually capable of writing a fairly nuanced, complex, emotional character episode about being “otherized” by society and those closest to us, that doesn’t feel token and like it will be easily dismissed in the next moment?
But when it comes time to write an LGBT story for their lead show, their baby that they worked on for 10 years, and they gave us “Ruby Slippers”????
Look, it’s not like this episode was revolutionary. Yeah, it’s a bit heavy handed with its mask metaphors and weird masqueraded balls in the middle of the woods but Drew’s story—a character we’ve only sat with for 3 episodes–was actually rather touching and realistic–grounded in the experiences that trans people face all the time. But Red, a character we’ve known for 5 years got a five second, second hand love story before being shipped to forgotten character island??
SIGH
Other notes
–Deb and Joel are just straight up weird and I’m not sure where they are going with this.
–Jessie is the worst and even with her whole “my home life was messed up and I trusted wrong people” speech, I simply don’t care.
–Okay, so it’s was pretty obvious that Blair came out because of “Andrea” and the Bowie tape (and that’s a bit low, tapping into the death of a beloved icon) but it was pretty sweet too. I like Blair. He’s slowly being toned down so that he’s not just “super gay!”
–The mythology did nothing for me this week. But giant hand is giant hand!

KeymasterCraig also retweeted Adam’s tweet with the 602 title, so I guess he’s in that episode. I don’t think he’s Sinbad or Aladdin, though, because he doesn’t seem to be of Middle Eastern descent, which was what the casting call specified.
The clothing doesn’t really give anything away, either. Maybe just a random character?

KeymasterI think it’s going to be the ugliest season for the fandom no matter what. There is simply no way to make people happy now. None. There is no magical combination of plot points that will satisfy the entire whole. And even if show runners shouldn’t be worried about appeasing everyone (which is impossible) there is something to be said about being unable to appease even a tiny percentage.

KeymasterSpeaking of fandom and conversations and really just social discourse….John Green, one of my favorite humans, made a video today about how conversations go sour in social media and about good/bad ways to start conversations.

KeymasterBlackout? What causes that? The blimp crashed?

KeymasterWhich is sad. Have we always been like this? When did this start???
In order of questions
1) No—S1 was quite respectful, though many people had difference of opinions over the villainy of, say, Rumple and Regina. But it was more a philosophical debate, not this nonsense. Because there was very little emphasize on shipping/romance in general so everyone had other things to talk about–like Emma’s hero’s journey, Henry, speculation, magic, ect.
2) Easy. “Tallahassee.” The second the show paralleled Emma with Neal and with Hook, the divide began. You were either TeamNeal or TeamHook. And the gulf just kept growing. By the time we got to The Queen of Hearts (end of SsA) the watershed moment had happened and there was no going back.

KeymasterIs this just what all fandoms are like, or is this one particularly ridiculous?
No, OUAT is known for being incredibly toxic. Maybe the most toxic fandom in internet-land. The running joke is that no one likes anyone and everyone hates the show. Josh is pretty innocuous, like you said. But that doesn’t stop people–either because of former comments (he was pro-Baelfire, as was Ginny), or because people are demanding pics of him and Ginny with babies, or because they are getting a little too gushy over Gosh (Ginny and Josh ship’s name) photos or just because this fandom has NO SENSE—NONE—of propriety.
