How do these writers live with themselves when they’ve done it four times now?

Once is an accident. Twice is a coincidence. Three is a pattern. So what does that make four?

But yeah. This isn’t the first or second or even third time they’ve treated a series regular this way.

Maybe it can resurrect the dead. But not the “ended.”

    Zombies. Zombies are coming.

These writers are the least professional bunch with probably one the worst track records towards their talented actors. First, it was MRJ, then Jamie Chung, then Michael Socha and now Sean Maguire

    Don’t forget Meghan Ory.

Next, Robin just barely escaped death in “The Price.” So, I tend to think the writers planned on killing off Robin Hood at some point in S5

Maybe but…then why go through all the hassle and money of making him a series regular.

I think it’s because Hades wasn’t really playing her in the sense that he didn’t love her; he just wanted it all–the girl and the power. When TLK was started to work in Skin Deep, Rumple still loved his dagger and his power; but there was enough under that (his love of Bae, for example) that overrode his desire to hold on to his power. At least that’s my guess. Until Hades got to SB, his love for Zelena and his desire to have a family was at the forefront. But once he got to SB and he realized that with a beating heart and the heroes left behind, he could once again take power, that’s what drove him.

That isn’t how it appeared to me. Hades flat out told Zelena back in 5×19 that he wanted to trap the heroes in UW. He also brought along his “family heirloom” (aka the cheap, glowing toy thunder bolt) from the UW to SB. So, it seems clear to me that Hades didn’t *just* want to be a family with Zelena and baby Robin. It seems like he really wanted to rule SB all along.

Yeah those are good points. *sigh* I don’t know. Because PLOT, Slurpeez. Because PLOT.

Are you happy with the way Robin’s journey ended?

In all honestly, no, I wouldn’t say that I was. I felt like it was an abrupt end; I didn’t feel the character had any development this year and wasn’t really written for. That was disappointing for people who liked Robin Hood and liked him and Regina together. But I’m a company man and when you’re an actor, you have to understand that our job is to serve the writing. I write myself and I understand how important it is to be true to what the writer’s vision is. In all honestly, I don’t feel that a character like Robin Hood got the development that he could have had. But I respect the way the guys want to run their show. You either have to be on board or not. I’m happy to serve the writers.

Geez all these interviews are pretty telling.

Which scene or moment were you most proud of?

There was one episode where they kind of gave Robin Hood a Robin Hood-centric episode, and it was nice to be able to have 42 minutes to actually tell a little bit of his story. The one of the things that was a little tough was that the character never really got an opportunity to get fully fleshed out or explore some of the things that were alluded to in the writing. That’s where looking at next projects, you sit down with the producers or the writers and say “what is the plan? I’d like to know what you guys intend,” but that’s difficult because sometimes the writers don’t know where they’re going to go.

I appreciate Sean’s honesty so much right now.

So Sean didn’t know until January? Anyone wanna place bets that it’s the same deal with MRJ two years ago? The writers didn’t know they were gonna kill Neal until the end of S3A and didn’t tell the actor until they started writing 3B.

TVLINE | Did you get any assurance up front that you’d ultimately have a heroic death, or is that something you discovered later on?

We discussed the way in which he was going to die, and Adam and Eddy’s reasoning for it. As I said, my job is to serve what they write down. This is not a show where the actors collaborate on the writing process; it’s very much the design of what Adam and Eddy want.

I’m sorry but this REALLY sounds like Sean isn’t happy about how this went down.

TVLINE | Right, he now has a little a sister to hang with!

Yeah! [Sadly] And now they’re orphans. I hope somebody’s going to look after them now that Mom and Dad are dead.

Sean is a class act and I’m glad he get this.

TVLINE | And if Adam and Eddy ever want you back for a flashback and you’re available, is that something you’d be open to?

I don’t know…. I’ve been asked to go back to shows that I’ve been on before and I’ve never done it, because I tend to feel that once I’ve played a character, I’ve done that. But you never know. I never say never, but at the moment I’m looking forward to a new challenge and a new chapter. We’ll see!

I think his relationship with A and E is a bit sour right now.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: When did you find out Robin would die and was this a mutual decision?

SEAN MAGUIRE: No, I found out in January. The guys phoned me and told me what their plan was. I said, “Okay,” and we’ve taken it from there.

    Hm.

it feels like they feel like they’ve been let down or they’ve been lied to. It’s sad for the fans, but I guess Adam and Eddy will tell you that’s drama and they’re still in the middle of their story and they have reasons for everything. They’re very intelligent guys, I’m sure they know what they’re doing.

This doesn’t sound all the confident to be honest.

It’s not a collaborative thing where we discuss things. Adam and Eddy are the architects of Once Upon a Time.

    It wouldn’t hurt though

I think some of the audience feel a little but shortchanged, like they were being promised something was going to come, but it never did. Again, it’s not for me to comment on why or how; my job is just to serve the writing. That’s what I’ve always tried to do to the best of my ability.

Reading between the lines: Sean sounds as upset and shortchanged as the fans

As an actor, did you feel like Robin Hood’s story was finished?

No, I didn’t really. I felt like there was a lot more interesting stuff to get to that had been alluded to

    Yup there it is.
