KeymasterThe next question is how did Zelena get to SB from Oz?
I have this image in my head of Hades enchanting the bike to travel between worlds and giving it to Zelena as a parting gift or something.

KeymasterSo Hades offers up his heart to Zelena to help her with her time spell, though perhaps it’s part of a test. Zelena, unable to let go of revenge, ends up trying to use the heart, even if it means Hades will die (Zelena doesn’t realize he won’t die?). Hades leaves Zelena after this act of betrayal, but because this is OUAT and they like to woobify villains and their love stories, Hades decided to not swear vengeance against Zelena but instead to help her. So he does *magic thing* to make the Underworld more like the Dark Curse in which there is no Savior.
But…how does this work with the theory that Hades created the Dark Curse long long ago? Did he make it and then just put it the Mountain with the Chernabog? Then re-create it in order to help Zelena? And why didn’t he bring Zelena to the Underworld until now?
(why do I suddenly have so many interesting questions and theories about a Zelena episode? What’s happening here?)

KeymasterMaybe because Hades is a God?
I’ll gladly accept that reasoning. Gods are notoriously hard to kill.

Keymaster.what if…. SHE HAS HADES’ HEART!!!
Ooooooooooh.
In the original Oz books, the Tin Woodsman is really Nick Chopper who was prevented from marrying the woman he loves and ends up chopping off his limbs, each one being replaced with tin. The only thing that was never replaced was his heart. What if Hades removed his heart, gave it to Zelena and she tried to use it against Hades for her spell, but it failed for *reasons* (whatever reason Regina’s heart does work)

KeymasterStill can’t get over the fact that Hades, God of the underworld, is riding a pedal bike. Not only that, but a pedal bike with aa basket on the back.
Hades and his Boo-Boo are totally going to go on a pic-a-nic with that basket. (and then probably kill a bunch of munchkins while they enjoy chocolate covered strawberries)

KeymasterI think back to S1 and there was no lack of drama but it was a great balancing act between the high drama of evil queens and magic and the more mundane drama of a young woman coming to a strange town, mother/son drama, family and friends drama. The show wouldn’t be this show without the high drama that involves magic and archetype hero/villain but it often feels like that *all* the drama is now. There are no quiet moments for anyone. And without the quiet, there’s no way to temper the larger-than-life drama that is so all consuming.
I just rewatched “Hat Trick.” THAT’S the show I miss.
Hat Trick is a great example. You have the off-the-wall nuttiness of a spinning hat and doors within said hat, but you also have those beautiful quiet moments with Jefferson and Grace.
And probably my very favorite Emma/MM interaction in S1 (if not the entire show after the memories are restored): “I cannot lose that. I cannot lose my family.” Like that moment is so understated but my god it’s powerful. It’s pretty much the first time, since Neal as we’ll later learn, that Emma actually felt like she had a family and the dramatic irony of knowing that this woman, this MM, is literally Emma’s family…oh god. It’s powerful.
(also, writing the above and having to talk about Emma a lot last night on the podcast and her now pod-selfish nature, I really realize…I miss her. I miss Emma Swan. I miss her balancing act of strength and fragility; I miss her being a seeker of justice and tentative hopeful believer; I miss when the most important thing in the world was just spending an afternoon with Henry, eating fries before school.)
(I’m feeling nostalgic today. Must be the infection that’s taken up residence in my lungs)

KeymasterI think Zelena returns to Storybrooke. Pretends to be blue to get to babyhood. Hades being Hades knows where she is the portal is to bring Zelena to underbrooke, Belle is caught with zelena/ blue & babyhood at the opportune moment of the portal opening.
That’s an interesting theory; hadn’t thought of Blue not being Blue.

KeymasterIt’ll be nice to see Blue. The town of SB often feels like a ghost town populated only by the CharMillStiltskin clan (and their romantic partners) and the occasional dwarf. SB used to feel very real because it was made up of interesting and delightful characters. Blue (shady though she may be) is one those.

KeymasterThe thing Zelena is holding in the flashbacks—it looks a bit like the golden brain we saw in S3B? Is it?
