I have a problem with Snow’s “epiphany”. We, the fans, noticed that this was not the character we used to love, but that was not shown through the narrative of the show. Snow and other characters never commented about this. This is yet another example of viewers know => character know.

My problems with Snow’s epiphany are a few.

    1) The timing is totally wonky. For me, she became Snow White (officially) at the end of S3A “Going Home.” The end of Snow White was the Pilot, saying goodbye to her child, knowing it was the only way to give everyone their best chance. The beginning of Snow White in this world should have been the parallel situation of Snow kissing Emma goodbye at the town line, knowing it was the only way to give everyone their best chance.

    2) I really don’t like that Snow’s epiphany didn’t come from a place of deep internal inspection of what it means to be Mary Margaret vs what it means to be Snow White but because Regina (a character who fluctuates between Hero-Mayor and Snarky Evil Queen on a dime) and Hercules (a one-off who’s connection to Snow was only just established this week) had to prop her up.

With all that said, I’m just really glad I never have to hear “Mary Margaret” come from David’s lips ever again.

Hercules was mostly fine–and I love the sight gag of him carrying two huge anchors around in present day. But a lot of this episode feels like 402 in which we had Anna meet Charming and she’s the one who taught Charming how to fight and how to be a hero. It wasn’t a super idea back then and it’s not one now. I have an issue with a character never before alluded to popping out of thin air to teach our heroes how to be heroes. It’s lazy and it makes the guest character look like a plot device themselves. While the message that being a hero (and future queen) is about making hard choices even when you’re scared it definitely applicable, it’s a lesson Snow learned when she was far younger, with her mother Eva and that impending death. And that lesson learned at that time was far more weighty and meaty and meaningful. Little Snow saying that the crown was “heavier than it looks” told me all I need to know about Snow as a young princess–she would struggle because it’s not an easy task, but she’d come through because she knows how to be compassionate but make hard choices. I didn’t need some hunky boy to pluck her from a hole in the ground and explain heroism to her.

And Meg. Wow. Yeah, not good. Not good at all.

Now that Henry will soon have the author’s pen back, it actually opens the door of possibility for him to write his dad back to life. I’m not saying it will happen, but it would be delightfully delicious if the darkest of dark ones and his grandson teamed up to use their combined powers for good to bring back Neal. (I know, wishful thinking).

The show is for sure getting some serious side eye from me after introducing this little side-story.

But on the other hand, it seems to be that everyone, no matter their origin/beliefs, ends up in the Underworld of Greek myth in particular,

My bet is that it’s Olympus in name only, much like the Underworld is the Greek Underworld in name only (it’s really more like Limbo with bits of Purgatory). So, it’s going to be home of the gods but now mortals can go there if they qualify.

In the sense that the story is never finished,

I agree there’s something meta to this idea of an alive pen, but I wish it was a little more metaphorical and less literal.

I thought that this better place only revealed itself as Olympus to Hercules, since he was a demi-god who had to complete 12 labors. Once Hercules had defeated the Cerberus, he then got to join his dad on Mount Oympus. Maybe Meg got to go with him, because she’s Herc’s love interest now.

In the most under developed and silly love story in the Onciverse.

I don’t know…I think it’s just straight up Olympus. There’s a TVLine interview I think that came out before the season premiered that talked about Olympus and Heaven…? (I may be misremembering) but I think they’re just going with Olympus.

The concept of the pen somehow being alive is a bit on the silly side, but since this is a silly fantasy show, I’ll let it slide. I’m more interested to know what Henry will do now that he knows about it. Once he finds the pen, what exactly will he write?

Well he did once has aspirations of writing his father back to life. *sigh*

But I’m guessing he can “write” everyone home since we keep hearing that the only way to leave Hellbrooke is to the better place or the worse place.

Agree with @WickedRegal. If Hook does chose, he (and probably with the Scooby’s support since they don’t particularly care about Rumple, apparently) would pick Rumple.

OMG Henry murdered the pen. I just realized that. Holy smokes, is that everyone but Belle? Is everyone a murderer now?
