Keymaster“I always see their relationship as best friends and sisters,”
This will not cause any controversy in the fandom.

KeymasterBut don’t A&E care?
I think they care, but I also think that they don’t accept any sort of criticism as valid. Instead they dismiss as the whingeings of internet fan culture with no legitimacy. Adam constantly says, “I hear what you’re saying” and the like on Twitter, but it’s pretty clear from the show that he and Eddy don’t. The race issue is the big one. They’ve been hit pretty hard about their treatment of PoC over the past few years. So what did they do? They case a black Merlin and a Latina Guinevere. And…then proceeded to treat them exactly the same as they have all other PoC’s that resulted in the criticism in the first place. They thought they could make the problem go away by simply doing some tricky casting, but they don’t really *hear* the criticism.
Or is OUAT still considered successful by the industry’s standards because, simply put, it still makes money?
In a word: yes. Over in the ratings thread, @Josephine found the ad buy rates for 2015 vs 2014. Both Matt and I were pretty shocked that OUAT is actually making more in ad buys for 2015 than we were in 2014. By about $20,000 to be exact. Our season four ratings (2014) were high because of the Frozen hype, but that very quickly dropped before Frozen was even over (ended the season with a 1.7, I do believe. Opened with a 3.5, so we dropped almost 2.0 over the course of 11 episodes). So how in the world are we getting more money this year even with the sharp decline in ratings? I have…no idea. But it’s enough to keep the lights on and it’s enough to make ABC happy and until OUAT starts losing money, it’s going to be considered successful despite the ageism, classism, racism, LGBT problems, rape culture values, ect.

KeymasterThe only biased critics I see are the ones who wants to be on A&E’s good side so they would give them scoops about the show and ones who don’t have any knowledge about film or television so they say that anything that is popular is good, which we know it’s not the case (i.e: Twilight, Fifty Shades of Grey).
Which, sadly, are mostly the sites that care more about eyeballs than actual TV reviews. So, your TVLine’s (Matt Mittovich can say he ships CS all he wants…I still remember when his Twitter background was Emma and Neal), your EW’s and the like. The sites that know that by pandering to the more popular fandom aspects, they’ll increase eyeballs on their articles and thus get more $$ which is the driving force of most click-bait sites.
Also, add in the two ladies of Other Side of the Mirror as people who very (very) openly criticize the show. Bless them. And apparently the head of OUAF left the site as a whole and was pretty open on Twitter about the fact that it’s because the show has gone so far downhill.
Our podcast is slowly getting to that point (poor Daniel. Eventually he’s going to start cutting my mic off altogether and having to gag Jeremy).
IMO, here are the most objective fans of the show.
I agree but at the same time I know that our site (sigh) has a bit of a rep of being Anti-Hook, Anti-CS, and not a “good place” for that character or that ship. Most, if not all, of our big CS fans have fled, never to return, because they don’t like that the majority of the regulars have zero tolerance/zero nice things to say about CS/Hook.
Though, I will say that when you take in the breadth of forums as a whole, we’re definitely one of the nicer ones. (Because I am a tyrant who rules with an iron fist). We’re also one of the sites that can have larger cultural debates without it turning into an absolute crap storm. Most of the time.

KeymasterDid they forget about last season already
This is how they’ve written every season since the end of 3A. They pick up the very last thread of the previous season (going home, Elsa in SB, Dark Swan) and then carry that thread through to the next mini arc but don’t bother returning to any other big questions/themes, ect. It’s the same reason why Emma is still an petulant 3 yr old who complains about her walls.

KeymasterThat’s not an official promo. Its very obviously fan made. You can tell because the voice over is spliced together from previous promos, its all recycled footage, and there’s a noticeable disconnect when it transitions to the logo at the end. Either Once Upon a Fan made this promo, or they found this fan made promo assuming it was legit. That’s why SpoilerTV didn’t report on it, nor did it get posted on the tvpromosdb Youtube channel.
Yeah I sorta figured once I sat and watched it a few times. It’s not badly made, at least.
