The more you experiment with dark magic, the more of an addict you become. Emma’s slipping because the more she’s tempted to use dark magic, the more necessary she thinks it is. She’s choosing what is easy instead of what is right.
The more dark magic Emma uses, the more she becomes addicted and the more addicted she becomes, the scarier it gets and the more desperate Emma becomes to rid herself of that dark magic. It’s a horrible cycle and it’s a narrative through point that OUAT actually sticks to. I give them credit when credit is due, and it’s due here. Now give poor Violet back her heart, Swan!

I like it when the show remembers some of its long standing themes.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"Here’s the thing that bothers me: the idea that Regina’s heartbreak wouldn’t be strong enough. Just because you move on doesn’t mean that the pain still isn’t there. It doesn’t mean that those memories don’t still have a hold on you. Regina can love Robin all she wants, losing Daniel was a major turning point in her life. Probably THE turning point. The idea that this lost isn’t strong enough comes across as a weak sauce of an excuse just so we could see Emma do something hurtful.
They wanted to kibosh the whole Regina-Daniel thing so that they could simultaneously kibosh Emma-Neal’s death and simultaneously (lots of simultaneously’s) split up Emma and Henry as a team and make Emma look like a true villain because true villains take hearts (Rumple, Regina, Cora, Zelena)

Except Michael Raymond-James did not get a full time gig anytime soon after leaving OUAT. He took much smaller, quick roles for awhile before landing over at Game of Silence (which just begun to film).
But I’m not interested in starting a CSF war. I just stated my opinion. I’m not going down that rabbit hole.

Yeah, cause Emma’s hesitated quite a bit about wanting that darkness taken out of her and he seems to be the only one who can do it. So she kills him, takes everyone’s memories, and now no one can save her (except herself)
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"What confuses me is that the press release for 505 credited Guy Fauchon as “Vortigan”, and IMDB credits him as “First Dark One.” However, Vortigan’s name is never even said. Why would the press release even give him that specific name? Unless someone goofed and accidentally spoiled his identity in the press release.
dunno about the name, but I think Guy Fauchon is just a warm body because they hadn’t cast Nimue yet. I’m not sure about that name, though.

And when he said you took her away, he was talking to the darkness inside her, not the person. And his plan was to kill the dark one, but he couldn’t because he loved her. And so she turned him into a tree. That’s what we are talking right?
I think this is the First Dark One. There’s a reason they put that person in a mask. There is a big reveal to be had later on. Nimue is the First Dark One and Merlin’s lost love and he couldn’t kill her because he loved her so much, but she couldn’t kill him either, so she turned him into a tree.

Here’s the thing; this one is very hard for me to look at and discuss because right now I hurt. That’s the thing with OUAT. It knows how to bait and reel you in. Obviously, the Neal references tonight were just…yeah. All over and they hurt. The problem (THE PROBLEM) is that I now know that they were all bait and they were all there to try and appease a group of fans and that, in the long scheme of things they don’t mean anything. The show will continue to promote another ship (and bait, still, another one) and Neal will be forgotten once more. Notice how they don’t even say his name–Hook gets to say Baelfrie, but Rumple can’t even say “Bae.” Sure. Not bait at all, right.
I guess, if anything, this episode continued to prove to me that SF was always endgame but somewhere along the lines it got….killed.
In other news: 100% better than last week in terms of morals (well, mostly) and a lot better in terms of plot, though still with the abundance of magical McGuffins. Seriously, stop that! Right now it’s tying with 501 for best of the season.

–Regina and Emma’s conversation at the end. VERY season 1 in a very good way

–The beginning was interesting. It’s a story I want to know more about.
MIXED
–Belle is only part of the gang when she needs to tell them something. But still…cute outfit!
–Emma taking Violet’s heart. Low blow, Swan. But still shows what a desperate soul will do. Which has always (always!!!) been a major theme on this show.
DISLIKED
–What is this Rumple and Merida NONSENSE. Seriously. What is this story?? It’s stupid is what it is.
–How does Merida know about the book? And how did Merida break into that office?
–Merida couldn’t just try to open the shop door? She had to open it with an arrow?? Why…?
