The incident with Merida felt very much like foreshadowing. Emma almost goes dark by almost killing someone. Last season Emma did end up going over the “dark” line when she DID kill someone. It’s a theme with Emma, apparently. I can see her going fully dark because she murdered someone–either because she thought it was the right thing to do (for reasons) or because she simply lost control for one moment.

So what’s coming to SB that only a savior can stop??

So when I saw the premiere a few days ago, I actually gasped out loud at this reveal. I rather LOVE it. I think that’s a very interesting narrative point and sets up a thesis for the show as a whole. The sword is supposed to be a weapon of good, only working in the hands of a divinely appointed Messiah King. The fact that the missing bit of it is a weapon of evil and corruption speaks to the fact that there is very little that separates lights and dark and how in order to be complete you need both. I wonder if Merlin forged the blade and it broke into the dagger when he tethered the Darkness to a human.

I also think Emma took away everyone’s memories. And I think her reasoning behind it will be something “good” as opposed to “bad.” Like everyone needs to forget what happened in order to be happy and healthy.

But one more time for the cheap seats in the back: ENOUGH WITH THE AMNESIA.

I’m willing to wager Emma killed someone.

That’s my thought as well. I had thought that she reforged the dagger and Excalibur but she has the small dagger still, so it’s obviously not joined.

So 5×02 is Regina centric….thought for sure it was Snowing’s but I guess they’re going back to Season 1 & 2 Line Up. So 5×03 must be Snowing….

Mmm…given the title, I’d say 503 is Camelot centric. But yeah, looks like 502 is Regina heavy.

Welcome back everyone! I hope everyone had a good summer off (or those of us who stick around, let’s go!)

This is obviously my second time seeing the premiere since I got to screen it. I didn’t like quite as much as I did the first time round. There is some really clunky dialogue and Merida’s insertion felt sloppy; she didn’t really need to be there except to set up an obvious story later down the road. The SB moments were flat but the Enchanted Forest Emma and Rumple stuff was on point, which makes for a nice balance.

    LIKED

–Emma and Dark One! Rumple. This was really fun to watch. Bobby seems to be having more fun once again. His performance this last season never felt like it was the Bobby we’ve known for so long, and it was great to have that sparkle back. As someone who is a huge fan of archetypes and cosmic storytelling (shock! for those of you who have known me now these five years…) this is the stuff I’m really moved by and interested in. So, if the writers can focus on *this* aspect and leave the Shipping nonsense alone, I’ll be happ(ier).

–“…your turn” Honestly, I’ve been giggling over this line for a week now.

–Snow’s line about putting aside their nonsense to go and save her daughter.

    –The dwarves storming into Granny’s

–Actually decent CGI for the tornado lifting Granny’s.

–Sword and the Stone playing in the background; it’s a nice touch.

–Emma as the Dark One. Thank god they didn’t go with the SDCC outfit. That was horrible. But here she looks good. And she feels creepy enough.

    MIXED

–Hook and Regina taking center stage to save Emma. Snowing should have a bigger role. They are her parents. I know TV is a business and they are playing to the most popular fanbases and ships, but that doesn’t for good storytelling make!

–Most of the SB stuff. It felt a little too flat but there were some good moments, like Regina’s snark. But then they go and have the Apprentice given Exposition before passing away. Such an overused cliche.

–Henry didn’t regret breaking the quill at all! We were told he would. But, at least Henry got lines and stuff.

    DISLIKED

–OMG THE ENDING. I HATE THIS ENDING SO MUCH. I cannot with Amnesia…AGAIN (and again). WHY?! Just WHY?!

–Hook trying to have Henry break all the rules AND free the woman who killed his father. Come on. Stop this, OUAT. If you want me to be at least moderately accepting of Hook as Henry’s potential step father, then stop showing that he’s a truly horrible influence.

–Blue Fairy once again is just a plot device and apparently not even remotely powerful.

–JMo’s hair was a hot mess.

–Zelena having any part to play at all. I cannot stand her. And she basically admitted to raping Robin. But OUAT will never actually delve into that. They just leave problematic consent out in the air and never touch it again.

–Regina enchanted Hook’s hook and it was a one time use. Plot holes and inconsistencies like that drive me nuts.

–“The fight against my darkness begins now” I cannot with dialogue like this. It’s clunky and awkward.

Overall, it still get a nice passing grade from me; better than the 4A premiere. They just need to learn to ease up on the throttle and focus on ONE thing–like Emma’s dark one curse.

I like how it goes from Dark Swan Rises to “Living with Hepatitis C”

For those of us still standing….here we go again. *holds hands with her girls*

If the show hadn’t opened under the Shondaland banner would it have opened as well?

As well? No. Opened well? Yes.

What do you think the prosecution’s attorney has on Asher?

I think he’s a rich boy who got into trouble by accidentally murdering someone. His dad’s a judge, so he probably got daddy’s help in covering it up. Drunk speed boat accident is my bet. (Go the cliche route)

•Next main cast member to be killed?

Not Annalise. Bonnie is my guess. Someone figures out that she killed Rebbecca and takes her out.

If Annalise Keating had to represent one OUAT character who would it be and what did they do?

Disney owns Marvel and ABC. Thus, Annalise would just be Amanda Waller.

Oh, I don’t think it will be both, but if Annalise is Wes’s mom they might push it up to the line with the sexual tension. Make us believe something could happen, not that it has. And then the reveal and we’re all grossed out.

    Yup, that’s it exactly.
