A lot of the news lately screams “hail Mary in the final moments!”
While Season 5 can very well end up being the final Season, I should note that quite a few suspected the same for Season 4. Especially when it ended up revealing the Author, which seemed like it was something they’d save for a final Season. And you had the whole Heroes vs. Villains thing. Despite all of that, we continued into Season 5.
Agreed. But the combined Author reveal + Hero Goes Dark And Is Finally Saved and Reborn does seem like a lot of wrap up. But, I do agree that the story matters less and it’s more about the ratings/actor contracts in this case.

Adam and Eddy have written every mid Season finale, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be them.
I know…just seems odd that Brigette hasn’t written anything yet but keeps tweeting about her stories. But, I am wondering if the 100th is keeping A and E so busy that they might fork over the 510 one.

I’d say Merida since both are more apt to vanish off to Forgotten Character Island/Bathroom after this season.

So obviously this is the big news today. Here’s what I am going to say.
1) I’m glad they are going there BUT
2) I think they are doing it for the wrong reasons. I don’t think they are doing it because “reflective of the world we live in.” We’ve been living in this world for a long time and they didn’t even make Mulan declarative bisexual/lesbian. They just alluded to. They are doing this because there has been such outrage over not having a proper LGBT storyline. Which leads me to…
3) I think this is another indication that the show is ending. They want to appease as many humans as possible.

I see it going down like this;
Once Upon a Time, long long ago, in a kingdom far far away, Darkness lay heavy on the land. The Sorcerer tried, in vain, to stop the spread of Darkness but found he could not stem the tide. The only thing that would stop the Darkness was True Love. A True Love born out of sacrifice and courage and many tears and so it was with a heavy heart that The Sorcerer fashioned a dagger using dark and dangerous magics. He built an underground pit, enforcing it with runes and spells that would house the Darkness and prevent the world from falling to forever night. Taking is one true love, the lady Nimue, chosen not only because he loved her more than anyone in the world, but also because she possessed magics in her own right, being the Lady of the Lake, the Sorcerer placed her on top of the pit. “What are you doing?” she asked, “there must be another way!” But the Sorcerer knew better; he knew this was the only way to stop the Darkness. And so, taking the dagger, he called the Darkness and tethered it to his lady love. The transformation was complete, Nimue was now the first Dark One. The pit opened below her feet and Nimue fell into the pit, locked up forever more as the Dark One.
(Arthur note: there is one legend that says Nimue sealed Merlin in a tomb, so it’s a nice reversal, which this show loves to do).
But the pit did not stay closed forever, for people are a curious lot and will touch things that do not belong to them. Several years after the Sorcerer had tethered the Darkness to Nimue and cast her into the pit (cough God and Satan cough) two humans who did not know the story of the Darkness came upon the Pit and were filled with wonder and awe. The Darkness called to them, wanting to be released. It promised weather and joy and love and everything humans desire in this world (cough The Ring cough). One of the men, being filled with greed and lust in his heart for what the Darkness promised, killed his companion and the blood of the innocent opened the pit and Nimue rose again. The dagger also rose with Nimue and the Killer took advantage of the moment and slayed the Dark One, not knowing that now he would be the Dark One.
And so it came to pass that the Second Dark One was born.
The people of the world, fearing the Dark One, searched high and low for the Sorcerer but he has removed himself from their world, having grief in his heart over the death of his beloved. Instead, he had disguised himself and hid away from the world. The search for the Sorcerer ended in pain and heartache when Dark Ones fell only to rise again in new people. Soon eons passed and any hope of the Sorcerer passed into distant memory.
Until one day, the Darkness returned, tethered but not controlling a woman known only as the Savior. She was True Love incarnate and the Darkness had not yet darkened her heart beyond repair. If she and those she loved could stem the tide, the Darkness might be defeated forever. The Sorcerer heard all these glad tiding and kept a close eye on this new Dark One, this Emma Swan.
This…is their story.
