I read another spoiler about 7×1. Warning: only read if you want to be spoiled!
Since that spoiler finally made its way over here I can go ahead and say…
I got seriously teary eyed when you see it, knowing Henry has managed to hang on to it all this time, even with another curse. Born of true love indeed

I don’t think it can be that cut and dry in the end, though, if your theory is correct. Any show worth its weight that goes down the clone/copy route has to spend some amount of time dealing with the question of how we define “real” and what makes a person real. There has to be some sort of existential crisis for the clone either fighting the inevitable integration or accepting their fate or trying to define their life apart from their original.
What you’re proposing is some Westworld and Orphan Black level of naval gazing and for OUAT to eschew any or all of that is, again, some serious weak sauce.
I also think Slurpeez’s interviews she posted point toward Colin meaning that this isn’t Clone!Hook but it’s Cursed!Hook as Rogers because the amount of cons just for the story are really stacking up.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"As someone who really enjoyed the Wonderland spinoff, I was quite miffed at the thought of them replacing that Alice with a new one. But if Belle named her kid after Alice, and that’s how we’ve ended up with an Alice 2.0, then I’d be cool with it.
If they keep writing Alice as interestingly as she is in the premiere, then I’ll also be less miffed about them replacing Alice from the spinoff.

The writers do emotional payoff off screen to other storylines all the time, be they big or small.
Her being separated from her true loves is not satisfying.
But she’s not. She knows exactly where he is, what he’s doing and why he’s doing it and like she said at the end of their wedding, she knows they’ll handle whatever is coming. And it’s Sept 2017, Henry is the same age in HH as he was in New!EF so she’s actually only apart from him for a few months, at most, when the curse finally breaks, likely in May. It’s not like Snowing being separated for 28 yrs, a story that absolutely needed emotional on screen resolution. And again, the emotional resolution S7 is concerned with is not CS; it’s Cinderella and Henry. The whole story is geared toward that story, not past couples. If JMo really is one and done and Clone!Hook is not true, then S7B (or even S7A depending on when the curse breaks) ends with Hook saying goodbye to Henry, proud of his role in breaking the curse, and going home to Emma and SB. You don’t need JMo for that and you don’t need a big CS reunion because their story isn’t the one this season cares about.
Sorry RG, but I’m pretty sure more people care about CS then will ever care about Henry/Cinderella even as this season continues. Henry/Cinderella won’t even touch CS in turns of popularity and investment.
I don’t doubt that. But I also don’t think the writers care which is more popular for S7. It doesn’t matter who’s more popular. It’s about what the season is about.

Shows aren’t written with only set of fans in mind–in fact they really shouldn’t be written with the fans desires in mind at all. They should be about what’s the stronger story; and while yes, this is separation for CS, Emma still has her memories in SB and would know that Hook is with her son, helping him navigate the curse and be with his true love. I actually think Emma would find the role reversal a little poetic and sweet.
There doesn’t need to be real payoff for CS because they aren’t separated like Snowing in S1 (that’s been delegated to Henry and Cinderella) and when the deed is done, Hook can go home knowing he’s helped Emma’s son and his stepson. The show isn’t about emotional payoff for CS anymore (or Snowing or Outlaw Queen or Rumbelle); it’s about emotional payoff for Cinderella and Henry.

Sure. But it’s still a much better story, IMO, to send *real* Hook for the story reasons I stated above. Not Copy!Hook. I mean why should I care about Clone!Hook and him being there to help Henry. Real Hook helping Henry, suffering through the curse…that’s the better story, IMO. And it keeps to so many of the themes the show likes to present. But the story in which Hook and Emma say “we’re gonna make a clone of Hook to keep you safe so we can go back to our normal lives in SB” is soooo much weak sauce, for me.

They’re actually missing a rather golden opportunity here if Clone!Hook is true. While there are many who do love Hook no matter what, the other part of the fandom *doesn’t*. What’s a better way to help give Hook some good light (especially now that Emma’s gone and many think Hook serves no purpose without her!) than to have Real!Hook decide to suffer through a curse, be separated from Emma, all to help Henry!
I mean…Hook, prior to the curse happening say to Henry, “You may not have my blood, but I loved your father and I love your mother. We’re family and we’ll get through this together.” *That* is what the story should be.
