There is nothing to suggest that he’ll be coming out of that coma anytime soon since this is a “first” in the mythos of the show and apparently in the universe of OUAT. When the plot needs him, he’ll come out of the coma and not a moment before.
Actually, we had David in a coma as far back as the Pilot, and he woke up from his coma two episodes later.
…because the plot needed him to. Which is exactly what I said. When the plot needs Rumple, he’ll wake up.

Lots of people are main characters. That doesn’t mean we see them with any frequency or consistency. See, for example, Belle, Will, Henry, Red (in S2)….

You guys think Fairies can have babies? I was generally excited to see this character was being cast. If its an early episode does that mean Rumple will wake up sooner rather than later?
I think the Black Fairy got un-fairy’d at some point.
And as to Rumple himself, not necessarily. They can do a Rumple flashback with his mom without needing Bobby to do anything either than be a comatose patient and obviously Bobby as Rumple won’t be interacting with the actress cast as Evanna.

Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and Robin Hood are two of the most beloved and influential English legends. If they decide to forget about Richard the Lionheart and his place in the RH cycle, they could easily tie Robin and Arthur together in a similar manner whereby Arthur replaces Richard the Lionheart has Robin’s ally and friend and Robin replaces one of Arthur’s Knights.
And brave Sir Robin ran away?
Or fell in love with Maid Marian and chose to leave Arthur’s service. It’s actually my previous headcanon about Charming’s father (a knight of the Round Table who left when he met Ruth and wanted to create a life with her) but given to Robin.
