Theory: Cruella wants to skin the author and wear his skin as a coat so that she an absorb his powers for herself and change her story. Why? Because A&E said she her powers are connected to what she wears on her back or something along those lines. I am going to assume that Pongo is no ordinary dog and niethter were his ancestors (A&E said Cruella may have known Pongo’s great-grandfather) so I am thinking she killed those dogs to gain whatever magical powers she has over animals. She skins the author and wears him, she can become the new author and write with the quill. This would explain why she wants Emma and Regina to bring her his body.

I don’t know if I find this theory fascinating or deeply disturbing.

I don’t think Belle was ever completely at peace with what she did–she had to stop Rumple from killing Killian (or she wouldn’t be Belle), but she never stopped loving Rumple, or feeling betrayed and hurt by his lies. And while they’ve kept it very brief, we’ve seen some of that self-blame come out that she’s done before; she feels guilty for what he did. However, in context of other spoilers…this may not even be 100% Belle.

Of course she’s never stopped living him. But so far, he’s done nothing but prove her right that Rumple needed to leave town because now all he’s doing is trying to ruin people’s lives. So her thinking that “I shouldn’t have done what I did’ seems wonky since it turns out she was right. She might still love him and miss him, but…this doesn’t seem on the up and up. Most likely, it’s Regina talking through Belle or something.

Why is Belle suddenly regretting what she did to Rumple? I mean, at last she knew, Rumple morphed into Hook and deceived her to get his magical dagger.

    Uh….

That question won’t led to anything good. At all.

Really Snow and Charming? I get that you made a horrible mistake, but why are you still trying to justify it? At the end of “Best Laid Plans” we saw them admit in the flashback that what they had done was wrong. Can they not be big enough to admit they were wrong now and ask for forgiveness?

I think that’s my biggest issue too. They said that they needed to strive to be better people because they weren’t kind. Trying to justify it now seems to fly in the face of their eventual realization that they did a bad thing.

There is a lot of chatter on Tumblr this morning about consent and specifically about how A and E don’t take the time to think through what it is they are writing and how it manifests on screen. They simply expect their audience to swoon over the TL and shippy ship shipness of it all. They expect that we are, in other words, nothing more than emotional messes and also stupid. We talked about this last night a bit. Audiences aren’t stupid. We aren’t passive vessels who will eat up whatever is fed to us. TV audiences as a whole are becoming more educated, more aware, more understanding of the problems in media culture. When the audience in social media raises concerns about these issues–be it racism, homophobia, mysgony, consent, whatever–we are dismissed as shippers who are just upset for ship reasons. For example, I could say that CS was a clear example of rape culture and I’d be told I’m just an SFer.

The fact is that the TV audience is becoming smarter with what they are consuming, and because we live in an age where social media is a common tool, we are beginning to express our displeasure in what we see as real world issues. So here’s a tumblr post about consent in OUAT and how A and E don’t really take the time to think anything through; they just write for the SHINY MAGIC of it all.

It just means that there are issues of consent in these situations because the writers don’t think about the further reaching implications of what they write, and refuse to acknowledge the situations that they create.

    Bless.

The entire premise of using TLK when someone is cursed is problematic because there is no good or right option. There is only less bad or less horrible. Because the only way to bring the impaired person back to their senses is to kiss the or develop a romantic relationship with them. But you can’t kiss them or develop a romantic relationship with them because they are impaired! But you can’t leave them to their own devices because they are impaired and not making choices they would make if they weren’t impaired.

As always, the issue is with the writing and the fact A&E don’t realize half the time that the problematic or just flat out wrong and abusive situations they are writing are problematic at all.

Because they are all problematic in and of themselves, each situation has to be examined in and of itself because each situation is different and has varies levels of ‘wrongness’ as it were. It depends on many things like: Are both parties cursed? Is one person impaired while the other isn’t?

If so, what is the unimpaired person’s motives? Are they trying to help the impaired person remember? Who is responsible for the impaired person’s condition? Does the unimpaired person have other options?

Does it depend on the ‘kind’ of curse it is? (For example Graham wasn’t able to fight back or resist Regina’s influence on him during the curse but after Emma came to town and time started moving again he was able to take a stand in a way that he wasn’t before.)

Hook’s actions are different in this perticular situation because he had what Charming and Rumple didn’t have: a choice.

Charming and Rumple were backed into a corner. The person they loved was hurt and impaired, had lost themselves. The only way to bring them back was TLK.  That’s it. Otherwise Snow and Belle had no way of regaining themselves. It was a situation with no good or right choice.

Hook had another choice. The memory potion. He chose not to use it at first and tried to force a kiss on Emma instead. Only afterward did he choose to employ the other option avaliable to him.

    X
