KeymasterMy question is what this means for SDCC? With the 2 events so close together, will they do both, or is it just gonna be D23?
It might explain why there’s been radio silence about SDCC for a weirdly long amount of time.

KeymasterRe: Bill’s conversion: In a show where realistic world simulation computers are a thing, I don’t trust what I see on my screen. The Doctor has had this longstanding dilemma of “Can Missy be trusted?”, and he had access to Monk technology for several months. You see where I’m going with this. For most shows, this’d be overthinking it, but the Grand Moff likes his convoluted series arcs, revisiting things from earlier in the season.
Oh! Wow. That’s quite clever and totally something Moff would do.
ETA: okay the more I think about it the more I think you’re right. It’s very Moffat to kill a character tragically only to reveal some sort of twist that brings them back (Rory, Clara, Danny Pink).
It would also explain why the Master is there because while it’s great to see him, the timeline of it all is quite messed up and doesn’t gel. So this is the Doctor putting Missy through the ultimate test–can she really be good when her quite evil former self is standing there poking her with a stick.
I think you’re right…

Keymasterthat brought the magical music,
Called it. I knew it wouldn’t go beyond this round; it’s a good episode, very cheeky and fun with great performances. But when you take away the flash and the uniqueness of it, it’s a lot of random plot salad that doesn’t stand up to the the earlier S1-2 episodes.
Round 8 Vote: https://goo.gl/4pyWsR
Am I missing something? There are only 4 episodes to choose even though we’re supposed to vote for 4 outta eight?

Keymaster10×11 “World Enough and Time”
Oh. My. God.
I loved–LOVED–this episode.
“It’s the Genesis of the Cyberman.” I about fell outta my chair, y’all between the classic Cybermen coming back and the return of the Master…wow.
I can’t decide if it is better than Thin Ice–because they are ultimately very different types of DW–but it was fantastic.
I want to quote every single Missy line but since I can’t here are some of the best
–“These are my plucky assistants: Thing One and the Other One.”
–“What does he call you? Companions, pets…snacks?”
–“These are my disposables: exposition and comic relief.”
–Missy casually trolling the fandom by insisting that the Doctor’s name is actually Doctor Who had me in stitches. Seriously, well played writers. Well played.
–Bill 🙁 Heartbreak. Absolute heartbreak. I hope we can save her somehow….and yet, while it would be very Moff like to bring back the dead character, the Doctor’s flashforward seems to suggest that he’s in a state of personal anguish. The longer hair, the ragged clothes, the screams of agony.
–So the Doctor regenerates alone in the snow? That must be the final scene at Xmas, yes?
–Sometimes Moff and company can get a bit too in love with timey wimey shenanigans and telling two different time period stories but this was the best way of doing it since Blink, I think.
–There were a lot of really great proper scares in this episode. The kind that might make a kid hide behind a couch.
–Master! So, he does not regenerate from Missy but he’s been hiding on since…when? He references being the Prime Minister so it’s post S3 with Martha, but pre-end of 10’s reign? Clarification hopefully coming soon.
–Also, what does the Master hope to achieve here? He’s upgrading humans from a human like planet to what end? Take over the Earth?
–Basically that nurse was Nurse Ratchard, yes?
–The music for this episode was sooooo good. I especially loved the music that played in the introduction when they were doing long shots of the space ship and the black hole.
–Peter Capaldi. Guys…I don’t want him to go 🙁

KeymasterSad to see it go too. I’m even more sad to see “The Return” go
The Return is definitely a hard loss. It’s in my personal top 10, probably 6 or 7 ish. It’s a fantastic episode.

LOL all mine are safe. This round is actually really easy for me. A lot of the most recent cuts were in my top 20 but my top 5 are pretty easy.
Voted!

KeymasterAmerican Gods is tricky for me to talk about because I am, what some might charitably call, a zealot. Gaiman is one (if not THE) of my all time favorite authors and I consider AG to be his best work. I’ve read it countless times, most recently in the weeks leading up the show.
So I’ve tried not to talk about it too much with people because I don’t want to come across as a bit, uh, fanatical. But with that in mind…
–Favorite Character: Well, I love and adore what Ian McShane has done with Mr. Wednesday. He’s basically perfect for the part and you can tell he’s in love with this role. However, Mr. Wednesday isn’t exactly a stand up guy so it’s hard to call him my favorite. I think it has to go to Ricky Whittle as Shadow; I like that the show has made him more vocal–you’re more inside Shadow’s head in the book than is prudent for a TV show and Whittle is doing some really great work. I also really like Shadow as a character because it’s a very warped and weird version of the heroes journey and we all know I’m a true sucker for those.
–Least Favorite: Mr. World, for very obvious reasons. I don’t like him as a character but I also don’t like what he represents, the sort of unrelenting globalization that seeks to strike down individuality in place of commonalities.
I will also say that I’m really surprised–pleasantly so–at how the show has made Mad Sweeney and Laura so likable. Neither of them serve much purpose in the novel outside of some plot exposition with Laura serving as a reminder of Shadow’s past life, but the show fleshed them out in a really believable way. Laura’s role in particular is great. They turned her from a mostly unlikable character into one I feel sorry for (while also blaming her for her own misery)
–The book will always be better but they are sticking to it mostly lock, stock, and barrel and that makes me incredibly happy. What they have changed has been smart–like Laura and Mad Sweeney getting fleshed out or dropping some other smaller New Gods in favor of focusing on Media, Technology and Mr. World as a truly bizarre family unit.
–One of the other smart things the TV show has done is really focus on the way AG is an immigrant story. It’s always there in Gaiman’s novel but with current events in America, the immigrant question and their condition comes more to the forefront.
–One of the best opening sequences EVER.
–I think Anansi’s speech to the slaves might be my favorite God introduction.
Overall, it very quickly became my favorite new show of the season which is a relief because I was very scared when I learned it was going to be a TV show.

KeymasterInstead we get Belle who sprangs her ankle
One of the most annoying things in the whole finale. The girl runs around in sky high heels for 5 yrs and here at the climax of her final season, she twists her ankle and is all “oh no. I can’t go on…”

KeymasterI am glad they ended up together and really glad that they improvised the last scene and made it their own. After all the Rumbelle fandom was put through the last few years and hearing over and over and over again that “Rumple is a difficult man to love” without no explanation as to why he was doing the things he was doing it was nice that they had the finale moment and that they made that moment special for us fans.
But was it earned? That’s my biggest complaint. I do like that Bobby and Em improvised the scene because it speaks to how much those two love their characters and each other as actors, but as for the final sentiment on Rumbelle, I don’t know that the happily ever after was earned. The common complaint for any ship or character is that no one talks about their problems. They get handwaved away and forgotten week to week until the writers need to infuse some drama into the lives of their toys again.
Belle was so limited through all of 6B in terms of scene time and story that I have no idea why she took back Rumple to live as a family except that the writers wanted to give the shippers something to swoon over so that they wouldn’t have to deal with the fallout on Twitter.

KeymasterFYI, Adam’s Twitter account is back up after just a few days. Not terribly surprised.
Shocking.
