I’ve been reading this topic for a while, but I decided to make an account so I can give my opinion 🙂
I don’t think that Milah was Hook’s true love, and I think that the directors wanted us to think that she wasn’t because not once did they show any affection between Hook and Milah. The only signs that showed us that Hook and Milah loved each other was when Milah was dying and told him that she loved him, and also when Hook told Milah to run.
I think that Milah just opened Hook up to the possibility of love-because before (and I’m just assuming from how he behaved) he was just a ‘ladies man’ who never once thought about love and settling down. He just wanted to travel the seas and go on adventures and make the most out of life. And he just happened to find a woman who wanted the same thing. Now, as for Hook’s revenge… I believe that the only reason he wanted revenge was so he could live for something. Because remember, Hook doesn’t approve of cowardice (which he told Rumple 2×04). It’s pretty obvious that Hook’s pain and misery has blinded him, and as much as he wanted that to end he couldn’t because that would be considered (to him) a cowardly act.
So Hook’s revenge was more of a death wish. If he was really into the revenge, he would have planned everything perfectly as Regina or Rumple or Cora did when they wanted to achieve something. Instead he just made it up as he went along -which didn’t work out for him.
Also when Hook encourages Rumple to kill him so he could be “reunited with Milah”, really just shows how much pain he is in, and it is in that moment that he realised that he couldn’t live anymore. So this brings me to Emma (and in case you haven’t noticed from my username, I ship Hook and Emma 😀 ). They are, as Jennifer Morrison stated “kindred spirits” which I fully agree with. Hook is broken, Emma is broken. However whenever they are around each other, or if their names are mentioned, they immeditaely light up, and they become a different person.
Heres an example: In ‘The Outsider’ when Hook shot Belle, Hook’s revenge had taken over and he couldn’t have been more livid with Rumple. However, in the beginning of ‘In the Name of the Brother’ when Emma went to Hook on the ground, Hook immediately changed. He began smiling his genuine smile (which I haden’t seen in the last 2 eps), and he starts laughing with her. Also, in case you hadn’t noticed he held her hand when she touched his chest. This all shows that he is finally showing other emotions since he came to SB- which is a good thing 😀
So since they are so alike and equally broken, they can relate to one another and help to fix each other. True love is hard to achieve in this show, and it is something that takes time. It is something that has to be fought for. So Captain Swan will take time but I think it will be amazing to watch them grow together 😀
Also- this is off topic. But I have noticed (and I’m sure many of you have too) whenever Hook and Emma interact, or Hook is mentioned in front of Emma and Snow is around, the camera always goes to her. And she always has a look on her face, like she is thinking ‘uh oh thats the same look me and Charming gave each other’. I think she knows that something is going on between them, but she doesn’t want to get in the way of Emma’s happiness. I think that Ginnifer plays that look very well, hats off to her 😀
Just to make it clear, I am not putting down any other ‘ships’. I’m just giving my opinion.
Sorry that this post is long. It’s my first post and I had a lot of feelings to get out. 😉 And I wanted to make sure I explained myself well.
Agree 100%, SwanHook. Love your screen name! 😀

I think Hook’s true love was Milha… Seeing as he’s dedicated 200+ years to avenging her death.
Agreed…if he just turns around and finds a new one, that kinda ruins the purpose of most of the stories and his whole revenge deal….don’t think it’s gonna happen.
Actually, I take a different spin. His quest for revenge will bring him nothing. Revenge is foolhardy, and produces nothing but misery and emptiness. That’s what I hope Hook learns….in addition to finding something worth living for. There needs to be a positive result to the story, or that’s the point where it’s all in vain.

Sorry, I haven’t had time to comment on other comments. I just watched the sneak peeks, and I’m looking forward to this episode!
After watching the Canadian promo and the clip with Hook and Emma, I have a batty theory. Hook said that Belle is where Rumpel keeps his heart. While I think Hook meant this in a figurative sense, it could also be a hint about where Cora keeps her actual heart. We saw in the Canadian promo that Cora kissed Rumplestiltskin, which to me signifies they once had a romantic past in FTL. Perhaps Cora hid HER heart with Rumpel, the dark one, who cannot be killed except with a magical knife that only he knows the whereabouts of. What if Cora did this without Rumpel’s knowing?! 😮
But, Belle is good. If she had Cora’s heart, wouldn’t she be like Cora in some sense because of that?
sarah_tnParticipantNot enough Captain Hook. I wanted more! Tired of Frankenstein. They must have something planned for all of that though. Cora is really evil! Loved Greg’s cell phone ringer! Thoughts on Rumple: “typical”. Thoughts on Belle: “Meh”.
3 weeks….. 😡 🙁 😥
sarah_tnParticipantI saw a spoiler somewhere that said she brought the giant because she wants revenge on the town. I don't know what for, though.
sarah_tnParticipantI take that as “yes”.

H&K has stated that they have a idea of how they want this story to play out over 5 seasons of an over arching story. The individual pieces / stories will fit with that arch. I think that is why they write filler stories and plan nuggets for the over lying story in the fillers. They have a master plan and are trying to pace each season to that plan.
Where did you hear them say that ?? Would love to read or hear that interview..
What is “over arching”?

I’d like to see Hook get together with Regina. They both lost somebody dear to them, and that loss caused them to become consumed with the desire for revenge. And I don’t think the revenge would make either of them happy. Regina didn’t seem happy when she was the evil mayor in season one, and I’d be surprised if Hook’ll be happy after he recovers from being hit by a car.
Of course, there are a few differences between the two. Before she lost Daniel, Regina was one of the nicest people in any world. Before he lost Milah, Hook was still a pirate, and a bully, to boot. And Regina has Henry who believes in her, and whom she wants to do right by. Hook has nobody.
But I want them to get together. For one, they’d make a great looking couple. On a more evil note, I want Emma to get together with Baelfire, who is also Peter Pan and possibly Neal as well. Then I want the writers to show an episode where the entire extended family…Regina, Hook, Cora, Rumplestilkskin, Bae, Belle, Emma, Snow, Charming, Henry…all get together for the World’s Most Awkward Thanksgiving Dinner. 😈
Much as I have a personal preference for seeing them match him and Emma, you do have a good point. If they match Hook and Regina, I won’t complain. That’d be a good pair.
Sure opens an opportunity for some good stuff. I don’t know if they’d ever go with the Thanksgiving idea, but I love it. Funny! Everybody being together, and having to get along! 😆
