^ I thought exactly that Keb, in the middle of the scene. The things Belle said were very out of character. Some of it, maybe. But the way she said things, and the timing, it all just seemed off.
Especially her line about “protecting my heart”! She could have meant that literally, physically, as in “right now”! 😯
Hook could totally have been controlling her heart. It’s been done before (keeps happening to Belle?), in a similar way. And Hook was just humiliated, he could easily have chosen to do this next to hurt Rumple as much as possible.

Though Matt, you do have a point about the *spoiler*. This would certainly facilitate that. (Though I was sure they would go the *other* route with it. Oh well.)

Sci-Fi GirlParticipantI took it as mostly the darkness talking, but being Hook he knew exactly what to say that would hurt the absolute most.
As far as Hook turning against Emma at all, he didn’t really at first. When the darkness initially took hold, it tried using his old revenge thing to drive and control him. And it was working, but then Emma got through to him and broke that control. So of course the darkness saw Emma as a threat to its control and its plan, and very promptly started poisoning his mind against Emma.
It does seem like he should have resisted more but, here’s the thing: Emma is his anchor for good, she always has been. She was literally the only thing he could hold onto to resist the dark influence. So once the dark energy planted some doubt about Emma in his head, even the tiniest bit, it took that away from him! 😯

Sci-Fi GirlParticipantI think there’s one more next week (5×11) and the break is after that. 🙂

Merlin’s the GIVING TREE. He let PapaJones hack off a branch to make that ring!
LOL 😆 Though, Merlin did make Nimue’s ring from a twig. >_<
Papa Jones may have then lived for several hundred years before his sons were born.
Sure. Why not.
It’s an immortality ring! *crazy eyes*
But yeah, the Apprentice makes the most sense, LOL! 😉

But on the other hand, headcannon:
Long ago, Papa Jones knew he was going to be in danger (going to war, threat on his life, something). He had also heard that there was a Wizard who grants … favors to those in need. (As Merlin seemed to be doing when he met Nimue.) And so Papa Jones, or possibly a loved one, journeyed to See the Wizard 😉 in to ask for a charm that would protect him. He must have been worthy, because Merlin crafted him this ring.
Papa Jones may have then lived for several hundred years before his sons were born. When they were of age and went off sailing into danger, he gave the ring to Killian (and not Liam for some reason.) After which, Papa Jones probably died, having lived a full life and raising two sons. 🙂
In my theory the ring works by somehow giving luck or changing fate. It does not directly heal or prevent harm, it just makes deadly things … not happen! Or someone is there to save the wearer … because they are.
For example Hook was lucky enough to be sent to Neverland in the first place. Then he was able to acquire a magic bean to return there. Liam tried the dreamshade, Hook did not. Emma has saved Hook on several occasions, even temporarily losing her magic to do so.
Sounds like a perfect string of luck to me! 😀

But there did still have to be a while in between, for all those Dark Ones between her and Zoso and then Rumple. *timeline headache* 🙄
