Sci-Fi GirlParticipant
I recommended The Iron Giant to a friend for his son. I think the movie has a lot going for it, but what the son got out of it was “scary robot”.
Whaaaaaattt??? He was a friendly robot!!! 😮
Sorry he couldn’t understand that. 🙁

Sci-Fi GirlParticipantOoh, Willow is a tricky one. I love it to bits, but there are some graphic images that could be scary for kids, so you might want to wait a few years. Or at least have him look away for the troll-bridge-transformation scene. (I did as a kid.) But the special effects are pretty impressive for an 80s movie! 🙂
And I’ll second Jiminy’s advice of looking up content warnings on IMDB. Just go to the IMDB page for any movie, and click on “parents guide”. There it will detail all potential issues in the movie, so you can judge what your kid can handle. 🙂
Here is the page for Willow: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096446/parentalguide?ref_=tt_ql_7

Sci-Fi GirlParticipant— Um, what about Harry Potter??? The later ones might be too much for him, but he could start with the early ones, and grow along with the series! 😀
— Fern gully. A sweet cartoon from a while ago, with an environmental message. James Cameron stole most of the plot from this when he made Avatar! 😛
— Big hero 6. Like Marvel’s Avengers, but for kids. 🙂
— Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole
— How about Pirates of the Caribbean? Even more sword fights in your living room! 😆
— Rango
— ratatouille
— The little vampire. Cute!

Sci-Fi GirlParticipantEpisode 6!
Ok. Well my theory about the game was a little off, but I was closer than I might have been.
First of all, Hiro is finally back!!!!!! Yay!!! *jumps up and down*
Yeah. 😉 Anyway, so Hiro was powering the machine, to send people and supplies to the future! 😮 Well that took some guts! And the game was still key, as that is the only thing that could trap and exploit Hiro! (And now I get why it is called “Evernow”, if it is always now, you can’t time travel! 😆 )
Ah, but Miko. 🙁 She can’t really be dead! Either that, or they will change the timeline so these events won’t happen? If her father really made her in the game to replace his daughter who had died, he would not make her just to die again. He must have written some other way out. (And maybe Hiro reversing events was the plan. But then would she have been created in the first place?)
No. I am convinced her father came up with something better than that.
But I was right that her father had been exploited, he was forced to make the game to trap Hiro! And I also right that Miko is a creation from the game!
Now, he could have made Miko as a way to defeat them, once they forced him to make the game, but that’s not what I think happened. My headcanon is that he was already making the game and Miko to replace his daughter, and Renautas just took over his creation for their purposes. That’s why I think he wrote in a way for her to survive, no matter what happened. 🙂
(BTW, so Miko is Han Solo now? “I love you.” “I know.” 😆 )

So they are going back to June 13! “Promise me we won’t step on any butterflies”. AND THERE WAS A BUTTERFLY THERE!!!
What I’m struggling with, is: if Hiro and Noah change events on June 13, does that undo everything we have seen? Malina still has her guardian, Luke still has his son, etc.? But where is Miko in that case? Does she still meet Ren?
Or, it is possible that this trip is already included in the events that happened, and they can’t change anything, just understand what they did and know what to do next? Because we don’t know how long Hiro was trapped in the game. We do know there was footage of time anomalies at the hospital on June 13, so Hiro was there. But if *if* he was already trapped in the game, then that footage is from his trip there now!
It’s pretty confusing, we’ll just have to wait and find out!
—
So I was right that Tommy and Malina are meant to save the world together! No confirmation yet that they are siblings, but I think it’s very likely. And why did that comic say “Nathan goes to the future?” 😯
Oh, and do you think they could be twins? Or does she look older than him? Because speaking of Star Wars, is anyone getting a Luke and Lea vibe from those two? Raised separately, kept hidden, great destiny etc?

Sci-Fi GirlParticipant– Eragon. Robert Carlyle plays an evil sorcerer…thing in this one.
True, it’s a good enough move on its own, but the book is SOO much better. (He’s probably not old enough to read it yet though.) They changed certain things from the book that I thought were critical to the meaning, so that ruined it for me.
But if you’re not analyzing it, it’s fun enough. And yes, RC is one of the two best things about the movie … the other being Jeremy Irons. 😎
– Zathura!!
— You recommend Zathura, but not Jumanji?!? I saw Jumanji in the theater when i was 13! 😀
— And on that note, how about Mrs. Doubtfire? 🙂
— Has he seen Lilo and Stitch? “Also cute and fluffy!!!” 😀
And the sentence you never want to hear a kid say on the phone: “Hello? Aliens are attacking my house … OH GOOD, my dog found the chainsaw!” 😆
— How about Stuart Little?
Lets see, thinking back to my childhood in the 80s, what were some of my favorites…
— Hmm, I wonder how old is old enough to see the Neverending Story? That is an amazing one! 😎
— And another favorite of mine was Short Circuit (but I called it “5 alive” 😉 ). Lots of the humor went over my head, but I didn’t know that. I loved it anyway! 😆
Though in retrospect, Fisher Stevens being tinted brownish and speaking with an Indian accent was … unfortunate. But I didn’t know any of that as a kid. 😉And since I was born to like sci-fi, robot movie FTW! 😆

Sci-Fi GirlParticipantBut seriously, why Harold and Maude? It seems like a random choice.
Shall we read too much into it, and take it as a clue that there is going to be a FAKE death? 😯 😆

Sci-Fi GirlParticipant^ And this time leaving the darkness there. Perfect parallel!
Though they might need Merlin to tell them how his doing so was what let the darkness out, and to tell them how to do it right this time and trap the darkness where it came from!
I love symmetry! 🙂

Sci-Fi GirlParticipantOr, how about this: Nimue actually does die, and Merlin goes to the underworld and brings her back. But the consequence (price / side effect) is that some darkness from the underworld comes along for the ride when he brings her back. It wouldn’t have been released on the world if he hadn’t gone to save her. So he gets her back, but she is infected with this darkness and becomes the first dark one!
It would perfectly parallel how most of us think the darkness will be banished this season.

Ooh, I’m suddenly very much reminded of “A Wizard of Earthsea” by Ursula K. Le Guin! Who else here knows that story?
