Going with the Tin Man theory in the original story… the tin man was an actual man and he fell in love. The girl he fell in love with was as the book put it, “…living with an old woman who did not want her to marry anyone, for she was so lazy she wished the girl to remain with her and do the cooking and housework”(The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, 88). This woman went to the wicked witch of the east to enchant the ax the Tin man (then ordinary woodsman) was using. First it chopped off the left leg and the man went and got a leg made out of tin and this process continued it’s self until he was completely made of tin. What if instead of being turned into the tin man he was turned into a monkey with the ability to transform. Given how the writers like to put a twist on the story, what if the Tin Man’s story is actually the story of Walsh.

My initial theory was that if Peter sent the lost ones to our world to not only act as a intermediary, but to help recruit people to help him find Henry under the guise of destroying magic. I’m not convinced that Greg and Tamara were the only ones working for the home office. It’s called the Home Office, but there are a lot of spiritual undertones just by the way Tamara was talking about it to Regina. Also by telling Hook they were willing to die for their cause. It doesn’t sound like they were in Storybrook on a business trip.
sdcurtisParticipantI think that with any scheduling change you are going to lose some viewers. However there may be some new viewers or they gain back some viewers they lost with the sporadic breaks. This is why, though, they are telling people now so that viewers can get use to the idea. I agree with this being an Olympic year this is a better model. I can say right now that given the choice between Once and the figure skating competition, that starts on Sunday night after the opening ceremonies, I would watch the figure skating. I could always watch Once on Hulu the day after.
The other thing is that traditional models for scheduling aren’t working. They are losing viewers and need to do something to retain the audience they already have and also build an audience. As has been stated before other networks use this model for their shows and it has helped immensely in the ratings. I’m sure ABC is willing to try anything that might make the ratings go back up on some of their shows. Again this is why they are telling us now. Once we have a start date it will be easy to figure out when the break is. Besides for people who follow these messageboards people will make sure the information gets out there so people know when it starts, when the breaks are, and when it starts back up again. It doesn’t have to be guesswork.
sdcurtisParticipantSometimes it’s just a matter of having your bases covered. If one scenario doesn’t pan out, than you have to plan for another. With limited foresight I think he just wanted to plan for any possible event.
sdcurtisParticipantWell George could have married Cora when he was a prince and maybe not so quite greedy. Honestly I think of this version of the Rumpelstiltskin story (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv-nR90ieAo&feature=relmfu). This is a clip from a version that I watched as a child. If you actually watch it please pardon the 80’s acting. However if Georges father wanted more gold after Cora and Rumple parted ways after she guessed his name, obviously she would have been unable to do it. The King then would have probably tried to kill her. Cora then could have turned to rumple for help and that is when she started to get her magical powers. The king would have then found a wife who was “suitable” for George and that could have been his wife Rumple mentioned in Price of Gold.

If we remember from “The Shepherd” James (or whatever his pre prince name was), his mother came to him and was talking about the daughter of the grain merchant who had a dowry that could save their farm. Marrying for love back then was a luxury a lot of couples didn’t have. It was always hoped that a daughter would marry into a better position in life, than what she had been born into…at least for the lower classes. For the upper classes it was pretty much the same idea, but aspired for royalty. The daughters of royals were pretty much seen as bargaining tools for forging alliances with other kingdoms.
Rumple could have had a “respectable”, but loveless marriage. If his wife’s parent’s didn’t approve of the match that could have been all she needed to push her into thinking she was in love with him (trust me I’ve seen it happen in my family). After living with him for a while she may have realized he wasn’t the person she thought he was. She could have married Rumple out of some sort of rebellious spirit. We don’t know what kind of person he was like before the Ogars war that he fought in. There’s a lot of story we don’t know still to piece together a picture of what happened.
sdcurtisParticipantI would tend to think that maybe she doesn’t remember. I would think that as a beast her human senses would leave her. Charming specifically asked for the beast that guarded the castle. Why didn’t she turn into a dragon when fighting Regina? My guess is because she just didn’t get a chance. With Regina it was magic against magic and in a wizards/witches fight turning into animals is usually left as a last resort. I have a feeling that is why Regina bound her the way she did so that she was unable to turn into a dragon.
sdcurtisParticipantThat would be a good idea except that this is before Regina went to her to get the dark curse back. When Regina went to see her in the second episode she was in human form.
sdcurtisParticipantspeaking of spoilers and Maleficent, here’s another clip from tonight’s show,
sdcurtisParticipantI don’t think that it helps that the one person who was suppose help her from the beginning and aboandoned her is telling her what she has to do. I was reminded of a song by Jeremy Camp that was based off of the Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe movie and I think the Lyrics apply very much to Emma.
Open up your eyes and see these warning signs
Breaking through your heart and all the reason of your mind
Open up to find your action leaves behind
The very hope that’s given for the world to feel alive, oh
[chorus]
And the time has come to realize
And see the plan you’ve been designed for
So face the fear of all unknown and see the heart inside
So open up your eyes, so open up your eyes
Vs. 2
Throw yourself aside and hear the gentle cry
Of the voice of peace that gave up all to fill the void inside
Give away the fight, release your foolish pride
The very bond is breaking down you need to leave behind, oh
[Repeat back to chorus]
[ Bridge]
Can you sense the feeling that there’s more than what you know?
It’s a fire that burns within that only seems to grow
There’s a price that’s given and which only love can pay
And the time is here and now, don’t let it fade away
[Repeat back to chorus] -
