Honestly this show “Jumped the Shark” for me when they brought in Elsa / Frozen characters in Season 4. I loved seasons 1-3 so much…I just keep watching hoping it will get good again… but this might be it for me. They wrote the first three seasons centered around this curse that Rumple cast to find his son, who turned out to be Henry’s dad/Emma’s true love… then they killed him! When Emma and Hook went back in time at the end of Season 3B and encountered Rumple… I thought it would tie back in to saving Baelfire/Neal, but nope. The plot has never made any sense to me since the death of Neal. The whole point / the whole premise of the show is gone. If you watch any of the episodes from season 1 – 3 compared to seasons 4-6… the quality has taken a nose dive. I might sit season 6 out… it’s just too frustrating to watch.
[adrotate group="5"]sharonParticipantDo you think Henry becoming the Author and “undoing” the AU is how Henry also became Rumple’s “undoing”?
This “Author” plot device never made any sense to me outside of just using it as a way to explain how Henry is Rumple’s undoing. Otherwise – I don’t really get it…are the fairy tale stories in repeat? I mean – the story of Snow White for example, was told and retold many times… even during Walt Disney’s lifetime.
sharonParticipantI miss Season 1.
Oh – and this is a little off topic, but can anyone remind me why Regina is the Mayor again? I thought Snow White was the mayor since it was her curse second time around…
sharonParticipantRemember the good old days (i.e., Season 1), where it took an entire season to get the full back story on just ONE fairy tale? I can’t stand how they’ve been cramming a whole back story into one episode – or in the case of Will… teasing at a backstory, and then ignoring it for the rest of the season. It leaves more questions than it answers. If my kids didn’t like this show so much… I think I would be done by now. Season 1 was so great… it’s been downhill ever since.
sharonParticipantI think Cruella just wants the Author dead. She wants his dead body as either 1) Proof that Emma and Regina killed him and/or 2) The satisfaction of seeing the Author dead.
If that’s all there is to it – then why doesn’t she just kill the Author herself? Why kidnap Henry and force Emma and Regina to do it?
sharonParticipantMaybe the next episode “Heart of Gold” has a double meaning – Gold’s heart turning to Darkness forever (losing his humanity), and Henry’s Gold Heart that can and will be the Dark One’s undoing.
sharonParticipantHmm – I thought “Heart of Gold” might have something to do with Henry (Heart of the Truest Believer)… I guess not.
sharonParticipantUm… Pinocchio was abducted at night… and Marco hasn’t gone looking for him? It’s really bothering me that Marco hasn’t been incorporated into August’s return. As a parent – I’d be frantically looking for my kid. But I digress.
I think they put some one-liners and characters into the first two seasons leading up to whatever big reveal they have planned (Henry being the new Author or whatever): The Blue Fairy saying she had “final preparations” before the Dark Curse hit; The Dragon character; Lily; Peter Pan’s drawing of Henry before Henry was even born; August knowing who Neal was; August’s weird in-depth knowledge of the Author; The Heart of the Truest Believer… PERHAPS the Sorcerer already has a picture of each and every Author that has been and will ever be. Henry was predestined to be the Author one day because of his true heart – and Peter Pan stole the picture from the Sorcerer?
sharonParticipantyeah we had a whole discussion about this over on the “favorite and least favorite moments” thread. I hope Keb’s idea is correct…
It can’t be an oversight on the writers’ part – there are too many interwoven parts from season 1 that break down. Regina eventually has to realize the sleeping curse is temporary (maybe that horse wakes up), asks Mal for a stronger version, trades her with the dark curse that Rumple gave her, tweaks it to use an apple instead, etc… we just haven’t seen the whole story. Same thing with Aurora’s story – it doesn’t make sense right now … so I’m hoping we just haven’t seen the whole backstory yet.

We get little bits of the story at a time, but hopefully by the end, it all makes sense.
For some reason – although there are many inconsistencies, the one that bothered me the most was the sleeping curse. I thought the whole limitation was that the person had to willingly prick their finger or willingly eat the apple or whatever! That’s why Regina had to find leverage to make Snow willingly eat the apple. Maleficent had to earn Aurora’s trust to willingly try the spindle (you know – in the disney cartoon), etc. It was driving me nuts that she forced the needle on Aurora and then Regina did the same thing to the horse at the end. If it’s that easy – it negates the other story lines completely.
