Perhaps Camelot is in some sort of time loop?
This is what was said at the Comic Con panel:
“Camelot exists in a parallel timeline,” executive producer Adam Horowitz said. “It’s existed. How we portray it and show you, it’s existed long ago, short ago and maybe in the future.”

(Ok, this made me laugh out loud.)
From my interpretation of Emma, she may forgive, but she never forgets. She might have come to a place where she could tell her parents, you know its ok, but that wouldn’t erase the effects that information had on her sense of self.
I think this discussion does show how ambiguous the narrative is around what makes Emma “Emma.” She is the product of True Love. She is the Savior. She is someone who had her ‘darkness’ taken out of her and placed in another child. She is a lost girl who never had a home until her late 20’s. She is also the person in Storybrooke with the most potential for darkness.
That is a lot to deal with and I think all of those things combined could push her to the place where she does accept the darkness, because to Dark Emma, it means being free of all of those ‘things’ for the first time.
Well, did she not find her home, her family, her son, her purpose beginning with the end of S1 up to the present day, especially in the S3 finale and then during the Frozen arc and Queen of Darkness Arc. She accepted who she was, her powers, the whole part and parcel with Elsa in 408 (and then shot off fireworks for reasons).
I think 4B was structured to really challenge the sense of home Emma found at the end of 4A. She found out that she’s not a good person because of Emma, but because her parents are zealots. Although she struggled with good and bad decisions previously, she was really pushed to the limit in 4B. Even killing Cruella was sketchy.
So why is it different for Emma?
I think the difference is Emma didn’t take the Dark One power through an act of evil. She forced the darkness back into the dagger and then into herself as an act of love and sacrifice. It also might make a difference that the previous Dark One is still alive.
Robert C has been hinting that he might still be the Dark One, even though the darkness is gone. In 4B Rumple was trying to cleave himself from the dagger. So maybe the Dark One is a title you receive by killing the previous Dark One and the dagger is the power source. IDK. Just a thought.
If Emma, as the Savior and True Love Incarnate, can resist the darkness then there should be no giving in unless the writers want the message to be that darkness overcomes light.
I think ultimately Emma will save herself from the darkness. She will succumb, because no one is all good and no one is all evil. We are all capable of falling short of grace. But ultimately good always wins and Emma being the product of True Love and Savior and all that has to travel down that road.
