Okay. But the black and white one still exists. We saw it sitting next to the OUAT one. So if the book exists then it means everything happened.
But the pages were blank. So the story did happen, but it didn’t stick. Which is why everyone remembers. Just like they remember their cursed Storybrooke lives. The magic did happen, but the ‘curse’ was broken.
Which is why the Apprentice told Henry he couldn’t bring back Neal, but Hook was alive.
[adrotate group="5"]I think the show has made a definite distinction between Regina’s character and Rumple’s regarding their ability to redeem themselves.
I read an interview with A&E that basically said not every villain is redeemable. It seems the decision was made that Rumple was going to be the villain who could not quite resist himself in season 4.
They have given themselves a literal black canvas in regards to Rumple. He has a white heart and we have no idea what damage the Darkness caused on his heart.
With Zelena still being in the mix, maybe they can start to truly work on Rumple’s character development, especially after Belle pointed out to him AGAIN that he could have had it all if only he tried.
I think Henry is still the Author, he is just not a the point where he is serving in his capacity. He doesn’t have the tools of the trade (the quill, ink).
And it was recorded in Isaac’s book; and even when Regina threw it into the fire in part one, nothing changed.
That was a copy. The real book was the one with the Black and White cover.
3) Why did it have to be a (white?) savior’s blood that Henry needed in the AU to fix everything?
Dark savior blood was needed to make villains heroes in the new book. So to undo that, light savior blood was needed.
2) Why didn’t Belle and Rumple’s kiss not send everyone back to the original reality? Why did it have to be only Regina’s and Robin’s that could do that?
In the book, Regina was classified as a Storybrooke hero. Which is why Zelena, a villain was getting her happy ending. Isaac said no hero could get their happy ending in the book.
How is it that Isaac had the power to write things that had “real” and lasting effects in fictional London, the EF and ALWM (e.g. rendering Cruella incapable of killing Henry), and yet the story which he wrote was a “fake” AU (i.e. Hook’s death did not count as “real” since it was reversible)?
If Walt Disney was the previous author we have seen how his stories had a real world effect. They are written to impact the real world. Isaac’s book did impact the real world but didn’t stick because of Henry re-writing the book.
I believe that the AU happened–in as much as the last chapter happened as we saw it. The rest of the AU is like a third set of memories (or fourth, some people have a lot going on in their heads now), but never really happened
I agree with this. At the point that Isaac wrote ‘The End’ the AU began with everyone having a set number of memories and entering the book. While Henry was figuring out a plan of action (we don’t know how long this actually took) everyone was playing out the book. Henry changed the book, which is something the Author can do, which is why Hook, Doc, and Regina lived. If they died in the real world, they would just be dead.
Yup, the Apprentice was just randomly lying there next to Emma in the street.
They were all laying where they were when the Author wrote ‘The End.” The Apprentice was walking to Gold’s show with Regina and Emma.

In the Excalibur episode, I remember Snow’s version was fake, but did a real version exist?
The author didn’t tell him who Henry IS. I think hero Rumple with memories of doing (apparently mostly) right by his son would NEVER have attacked Henry, no matter what the stakes.
He still tried to kill a kid.
And he also put Henry in danger with Cruella who couldn’t kill him, but could injure him.
Rumple gets no sympathy from me on the Henry front.
I’ve watched this episode at least twice so I would go ahead and say, I loved it.

– not only did he save the day, he was an action hero! He made so many smart and excellent choices.
– loved his scenes with Regina, Emma, and the Apprentice (*sniff*)
– Your new Author folks! Great decision by the show runners and incredible pay off from Season 1
(Questions that linger, who sent the storybook to Mary Margaret in the pilot? Was it Merlin?)
Alt Universe, not Flipped Universe
– I was so glad to see that each character had a unique story and we didn’t see their characters just play out past events. It made this story unique from last year’s finale
Adorable bashful Hook.
– This is the first time I’ve actually felt particularly moved by Captain Swan. I thought Colin did such an amazing job altering his character. Just the little things, like how he held his sword or seemed off put by Emma asking for Rum.
Regina being classified as a hero in the AU! And then actually being a hero!
– I thought it was so on point for Regina to consistently chose Henry over her own happiness, because ultimately he is the greatest source of her happiness. She would not be the person she is if not for him.

This finale felt like shipper heaven but ultimately the real winners were families. Regina dying for Henry. Emma becoming the Dark One for Regina. Charming and Snow going to capture the Author. I thought it was a really smart choice for the showrunners to remind everyone that romantic relationships are great, but this show is about family.

Zelena still being pregnant…
In the promo pictures there was a shot of Robin holding the gold coin Regina gave him. I would have loved to have seen that as part as the wedding scene.
The thing with Rumple is he wants his loved ones to be safe, and for him “safe” is as far away from danger as possible.
I agree with this. Rumple is driven by fear ultimately and you can tell he would burn the world down to keep Belle safe, but that’s not what she needs or wants. Belle doesn’t want a protector, she wants a partner. And thats something I don’t think we’ve seen Rumple display in a long long time.
This AU storyline would have been the PERFECT scenario to establish that type of relationship between them. Ultimately, I hope it does, but don’t have much hope after seeing Belle in the pretty princess dress.
