ParticipantIf this is what Rump wants her to be in his HE, I don’t know how to feel. I’d have much rather preferred she was his…Assistant Knight. (Knight-ess? Is there a name for female knights?) Like, okay, maybe he wouldn’t want Belle out there fighting ogres and such with him, but she could be his companion wife, always there with her books and things, ready to help out with information, battling from the sidelines.
She could be the Hermoine to his Harry…or something.
She will be pretty little house wife, who sits at home and cooks and cleans, and reads her books, with no want to see the great wide open of the world, or go on adventures.
This has probably been pointed out before but both of Rumple’s wives have had this common sense of adventure. Of wanting to see the world. This might lead him to erasing that trait in Belle in the AU, but I hope not. There has to be a reason why he is drawn to the same type of woman. Even Cora had a drive for more.

ParticipantOr off to slay Emma.
That was my thought. I swear if they make Belle ‘feminine’ in this AU I will throw my computer across the room.

ParticipantIf the Author can erase someone out of history, I’m pretty sure it’s fairly easy for him to bring someone back to life.
See I’m not sure if the Author could erase Zelena from existence. What they said they were going to do was take her out the story. So all of her interactions with the story book characters wouldn’t exist.
But Cora’s in the story book so… I’m not sure.

ParticipantOk, but does that mean that the relationships themselves are completely unrealistic, and therefore must be judged based on an entirely different metric? Considering how much metaphorical ink is currently being spilled in the fandom over whether this or that ship is seaworthy, or whether this or that villain deserves to die (including on this forum, but not limited to it), it seems that none – or very few – of us are approaching OUAT from a morally relativist position.
I don’t mean to imply that I can’t make any calls at all about the relationships on the show. It really was about the idea of a Happy Ending, which is a intrinsically fairy tale concept. For me the idea of a Happy Ending is unattainable because thats not how life works. So I do view things we would consider morally questionable in a different lens, such as murder, adultery, abandonment.
And for me the metrics are different. I love the concept of True Loves Kiss and fairy dust leading you to your soul mate, and being able to share a heart with your lover. The relationships on the show that do contain elements of the fantastic do hold more weight for me.

ParticipantDoes that make it canon now, or is it still AU?
I think that depends on whether they remember the AU when they get back to Storybrooke, right?

ParticipantOh, to be sure, there probably are good and happy off-screen marriages on the show (e.g. Philip and Aurora or Cinderella and Thomas), but we never see those couples, so they might as well not even exist.
Even with Philip and Aurora Mulan was a (possible) interloper in their relationship.
What I don’t think you can do successfully on this show is apply real-world standards of morality and ethics to the relationships shown on the show. Most of the issues the main couples face has to do with magic.
Rumbelle has struggled with what the Dark One power does to Rumple.
Snowing cast the 3rd Dark Curse and we still haven’t seen the effects of that
Outlaw Queen had the whole Marian/Zelena debacle
Captain Swan’s….time is coming
I find that it is hard for me as a viewer to make true judgement calls on what it means to have a Happy Ending in a world where glamour spells, curses, and prophesies exist. But I think that makes Once enjoyable for me because it is so unrealistic.
That’s why I particularly don’t like the Zelena pregnancy story because it seems so….Grey’s Anatomy-like.

ParticipantI have a feeling that Rumple might still have his memories during this AU.
I think so as well. Which could explain why he’s fighting Emma. He might be the person who places her in the tower. Emma and Henry seem to be Rumple’s greatest enemy because they have the purist magic.
Basically OQ’s situation. It could be something.
Captain Swan fans would combust.

Participantthe boy is Henry, I bet.
There are some photos of The Author talking to Dark!Snow and Charming. Maybe he told them that Henry could alter the story and that’s why they are searching for him.

ParticipantI wonder if Robin Hood is a rogue prince, like Prince James was. Also, based on the photos, I’m guessing Robin isn’t too happy about marrying Zelena. Maybe it’s an arranged marriage.
There is a behind the scenes photo of Robin Hood on a horse in his Robin Hood clothes. I think he’s still Robin, but nobility that becomes an outlaw like you suggested.

ParticipantI loved the line about Charming having some brains in his pretty little head. (RIP Cruella!)
So ‘the boy’ is baby Neal?
