ParticipantAlso, if the Author’s job is just to record, you’d think that the quill would recognize that something is not right and fight back somehow.
I would watch this….
A thought I just had. It seems apparent to me that the story of Snow and Charming stealing Mal’s baby was not in the final version of the book. Should we assume the Apprentice removed it?

ParticipantPlus, if the Author was trapped in the book the entire time in Storybrooke, then he wouldn’t be able to write or manipulate stuff anyway.
I’m not really sure he can’t manipulate from intside the book.

Someone gave August the page with the door

The book appeared to Mary Margaret (when there was no magic in Storybrooke)

Someone gave Robin page 23

The light leading to the key was projected from the page with the door

SOMEONE is leading everyone around by their noses. It might not be the Peddler, but some manipulation is taking place in Storybrooke. There are things in the book that are post-Author-sucking. Emma’s birth and being put in the wardrobe, for one. So was that *recorded* or was that *manipulated*?
Also this. I can understand how the Author can continue to write from inside the book. Maybe losing some of his creative license. But I don’t understand how he can influence the bullet list from above.
I think the Sorcerer is responsible for the actions in the bullet list, but the Author is responsible for the manipulation of the story.

ParticipantThe Author doesn’t want the book to be over, so he manipulates it to keep it going. Adam and Eddy do the same thing. Too early for Regina’s happy ending…so insert Marian.
I think this is an important point. It seems to me that no Storybrooke stories have been written. The only changes in the book are tied to the Enchanted Forest. (page 23, Princess Leia & Prince Charles). This seems to me like this Author has a sphere of influence, which might be a clue to when this particular story started. It also might point to why the Author gave the book to Mary Margaret, who gave it to Henry, who ultimately found the key to let him out.
Is there a timeline of what stories are actually in the storybook and which aren’t? It seems like Regina is the Big Bad in Henry’s book. The audience has seen Regina’s backstory, but is any of that in the book? That would make her a sympathetic character and not so clearly the Evil Queen.
So does this mean this Author decided to ‘cast’ Regina as the villain? Does that mean he’s tied to the Mills family in any way?

ParticipantIs page 23 an Alternate Universe, or is it something that happened in the past and somehow between Rumple and the Author’s involvement, they made it appear as though it never happened?
I think it depends on how much sway the Author has on the storybook. We’ve only seen him giving Snow and David a nudge, but the Apprentice made it seem like the Author MADE him do something. If the Author can only influence the story through direct contact with the characters, I am of the thought that page 23 is an AU.
If the Author can actually write things into truth, I think page 23 actually happened, and the Author changed the story to make it more compelling. But is that possible? Is that time travel?
Now who gave Robin the page is another mystery.
I do think Rumple knows who the Author is. In Storybrooke he only seems to be at a loss as to where the author is, not who he is. So I can totally buy Rumple interfering with Regina and Robin’s life. But that opens up questions about Rumple’s interactions with Robin in Lacey.

ParticipantLittle little sparks in Enchanted Forest & Fireworks in Storybrooke.
The difference maker being Henry, Regina’s true love.
(Sorry if this is off topic) But I really like that both Regina and Robin are parents and are starting over. That resonates with me.

ParticipantUnless the Author was also writing their dialogue, I am a lot more reluctant to see them as all that innocent. I mean the profoundly self-absorbed litany about not being able to claim the status of heroes… And then worrying that maybe the fact that they feel bad about what they’ve done is going to be a problem and affect their kid? Meanwhile, not one thought about the impact that this might have had on Mal… while Snow herself is heavily pregnant? Seriously? I don’t even know what to do with that honestly.
Compound that with their actions in Storybrooke and that makes all of this worst. Because they STILL don’t seem that remorseful for what they did to Mal. They only seem to mourn their status as heroes in the eyes of their daughter.
Which, FYI, no one thought of the comparison of why Snow saw teenage Emma vs. an innocent child (what Charming saw)? It doesn’t happen with every child, but typically because it is the teen years, they may or may not be violent. Teen years are typically referred to as the horror years.
I pointed this out in the sneak peek thread. In Charming’s version there is no way the baby could be anything other than innocent. This adds more weight to the idea of self-fulfilling prophecies.

ParticipantHow does one develop or receive a wounded heart?
I think the use of the word ‘wounded’ implies that something was used to actually injury the heart. A weapon. Which is a distinction from a ‘broken’ heart. So the idea that Rumple wants the elixer to cure a broken heart seems too simple to me.

ParticipantOn the other hand, what’s up with the epaulettes in the still? Doesn’t that more readily refer to fictional London, than Oz?
I’ve seen fans mention it might be a shoutout to the character Fiyero in Wicked.

ParticipantWhen? Belle was locked up in Regina’s tower for three years, almost immediate after she was kicked out by Rumple.
Emphasis on shrug
