ParticipantHere is my honest opinion: they removed Rumple’s humanity. Rumple has always been selfish, difficult, hard, manipulative, and diabolical. But underneath all that, he was a man who wanted to be loved and a father looking for his lost child.
I think the show missed a true opportunity when they decided not to develop Rumple and Henry’s relationship after Neal’s death. There was the very brief introduction of Henry working in Gold shop, but they chose to spend time introducing the Sorcerer/Author mythos it fell to the waste side.

ParticipantRight now, Rumple is so far beyond the pale of where he started that the only conclusion I see, based on where he is right now and how he is acting (and as always, how RC is portraying him), is death.
As a lover of Rumple’s character, what do you think he is doing now that is beyond the pale? He always struck me as a guy who doesn’t have many limits on his behavior. Is it because now he doesn’t have a clear motive?

ParticipantIt seems as though Cruella and Ursula were already here pre-Curse. They were “banished” (to quote Ursula) from the EF. They didn’t come over with the Curse. We will find out how that happened in an upcoming episode
It doesn’t make sense to me that Cruella and Ursula weren’t effected by the first curse in some way. We see them interacting with Rumple before the first curse and they are their adult age now. If they were in NYC pre-Curse, with no magic, they would be 30 years older.

ParticipantEveryone who was not in the Cora-Bubble was brought. Regina kept Mal in dragon form as her own punishment.
Punishment for what? Didn’t Regina steal from Mal? I’m asking because maybe Regina knew the Charmings did something to Mal. Maybe didn’t know what at the time. I’m just curious as why Mal was included in the curse but Ursula and Cruella were not.

ParticipantDo we know why Regina brought Maleficent to Storybrook?

ParticipantAnyone willing to bet that white horse will turn out to be Maleficents Dark Pony. For some reason.
I really want it to be a unicorn.

ParticipantOh, I totally agree Rumple’s happy ending shouldn’t just be handed to him. I think Robert even said one time that it shouldn’t be that way and happy endings should be earned.
I’ve always read Rumple as a person that doesn’t wait for someone to hand him what he wants. He goes to great lengths to earn the things that he most desires. Which is why I think he would never rely on the Author to give him a happy ending.
I think at this point we don’t know what his new motivation is, but I don’t think its death OR Belle. Rumple has seemed extremely motivated this season. What with all the brisk walking, blackmail, and betrayal. That doesn’t read ‘I’m ready to die’ to me.
And from a storytelling standpoint ANOTHER Rumple self-sacrifice seems lazy.

ParticipantI just had a thought. If Rumple manages to corrupt Emma so that her heart becomes dark, then that would qualify her as a villain.
But does having a dark heart automatically make you a villain? Since this show is all about redemption, despite your past dark deeds, Emma would have to Do something villain-y to then turn into a villain. Which sort of makes the whole ‘oh Emma has to have a dark heart’ thing sort of wonky.
And really where did Rumple get that information? Does Rumple know who the Author is, but just doesn’t know where he is?

ParticipantSo for every pro, there would be a con. Not being a mother to Henry, and Henry never having been born in this AU, sounds like an unhappy ending, rather than a joyous one for Regina.
I do agree with this. At some point Regina said she was at her happiest when it was just her, Henry, Robin and Roland, but there is no way that happiness would have happened if Regina and Robin followed what happened on the alternate Page 23.
I think the ultimate point for Regina will be its not about happy endings but about happy moments. You can not maintain a constant state of perfect. There is no one person or thing or being that can grant you that reality. Which I think is a great premise and will make for great TV.

ParticipantWho knows. Maybe in the AU Regina is never forced into marrying Leopold at all. Maybe Snow’s mother remains a brat and she’s the one who kills Leopold and because she’s raised Snow to be bad as well, they throw a party instead of his funeral. Maybe Snow marries James instead of Charming. Or maybe Regina’s the one who gets set up with Charming after James still dies, and then Robin comes along to rob their carriage. Maybe Charming stays on the farm and there’s this Marian girl who lives on the next farm over and they end up together. They could do just about anything. PS. Welcome to the forum.
Ha! Well, we at least know Regina is the Queen since…fancy carriage.
PPS. Thanks!
