SirMedrautParticipant
Well, technically in OUATWL, Anastasia (sister to Cinderella and Red Queen) getting married to a poor person (Will Scarlet) despite the wishes of Lady Tremaine came from Cinderella 2. So that may count.
Fair enough, I WAS thinking about that when I was typing my reply, but a plot point like “rich girl falls in love with poor boy” is such a widespread, universal one that I wasn’t really sure how much credit Cinderella 2 can get for that since Will isn’t a baker and there aren’t any other similarities that I’m aware of.
That’s assuming Black Fairy is Morgana.
Of course it is. Doesn’t everyone around here assume their favorite pet theories are true? I honestly kinda feel like the trio of villainesses almost makes it even more likely – Maleficent’s really the only other major candidate, and I’d expect the Black Fairy with her be-all-end-all deus ex machina wand to be her own thing, not need two other antagonists with her.

SirMedrautParticipantThoughts? Other characters I might have missed?
Morgana, Ursula’s sister. Cruella’s two henchmen.
I don’t think they’ve ever acknowledged a sequel character, have they? I doubt they’ll start with an incredibly contrived (“URSULA’S CRAZY SISTER!” I rest my case) villain from one of the worst of the DTV bunch. Maybe I just have a really strong bias against TLM2 because the first one is one of my favorites of all time, but I sincerely hope there’s no sea-witch Morgana. Especially since the Black Fairy will be coming to town with that name down the line somewhere and that’s unnecessarily confusing.
I could see Horace and Jasper bumbling around Storybrooke, though. I think I’d get a kick out of that.
I *really* hope Ursula means we get more Ariel, but with her story having been wrapped in a pretty little happily-ever-after bow in S3 and the fact that Ariel’s “Ursula” was really Regina, I’m worried we won’t. I hope I’m wrong, I really really do.

SirMedrautParticipantI always wanted there to be a definite author, but with the way the show suddenly started handling the book as some magical word-of-God tome with the ability to grant or take away happy endings because “what happens in it appears immutable” (which, y’know, kinda duh since it’s all in the past and barring time-travelling curses you can’t change it.) I’d almost prefer there wasn’t. Not a fan of the idea of some puppetmaster pulling the strings or somehow having an influence on their future when the book only holds the past. While I’ve been eagerly waiting four seasons for them to tackle the who-wrote-the-book mystery, I do wish there was a bit more logic as to why everyone thinks THE BOOK ITSELF or the author is so responsible for Regina’s happiness as opposed to just being essentially a history book that happens to be about the denizens of Storybrooke because I feel like I’m way less convinced than the characters are.

SirMedrautParticipantGiven their penchant for casting Lost actors as villains, I’ll nominate Evangeline Lilly in her place.
She was the one actress my boyfriend and I could not stand from Lost. Watching those Kate backstory episodes was not fun for us. It was painful. Besides which, Morgana comes from Arthurian Legend and that’s British lore. If you’re going to cast an actress to play someone British, mine as well cast a British actress. American actors are not known for doing good British accents, but it’s oddly easier for British actors to do American. Not sure why.
Lancelot is a French addition to the British legend and he was played on OUAT by the American Sinqua Walls. Conversely, The Wicked Witch of the West comes from an American novel and was played by an English actress. Or the Scottish Rumplestitskin (German) and Australian Belle (French). Clearly national fidelity is out the window already.

SirMedrautParticipantI’ve wanted Lara Pulver for Morgana le Fay for a long time now, but I’m pretty sure she’s in the main cast of Da Vinci’s Demons which just got renewed for a third season next year so that won’t be happening anytime soon. Given their penchant for casting Lost actors as villains, I’ll nominate Evangeline Lilly in her place.

SirMedrautParticipantWait a second, The Jungle Book was re-released back in February and we still haven’t seen Shere Khan, I call shenanigans 🙁 Maybe there’s hope for 5B if the live action movie does well next year haha.
Joking aside, I’m actually intrigued and going to give them the benefit of the doubt here because she was great in Dracula and I think this casting is spectacular. Is it a cash grab? Sure, maybe. But I had my doubts about the Frozen 4A cash-in (mainly cause I wasn’t that big a fan of the movie)…and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. As long as Sunday nights continue to entertain me, they can throw in the kitchen sink for all I care.
(But, seriously, if they just anthropomorphized everyone and we didn’t have to look at awful CGI animals for 11 episodes, I think a great arc could be pulled from the Jungle Book)

SirMedrautParticipantI didn’t know that about Merlin. Now I’m hoping he is in the hat.
Yup! The details, like just about everything in the Matter of Britain, change depending on the telling and teller, but “generally” speaking, he’s trapped by a woman he’s training in magic – most commonly a Lady of the Lake named Nimue or Vivian. Less commonly, it’s Morgana who does it instead, which conveniently ties into my previous theory about her being the previous owner of the hat. So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. She stuck Merlin in there and held onto him for safe keeping and we’ll hear all about it in 5A.
Wasn’t there a theory Charmings father was Merlin?
Not one that I’ve heard? Nor one I’d particularly agree with, as I can’t see there being a whole lot of evidence for it, but it’s been four seasons now and the fandom’s probably guessed *everyone* for Charming’s father at this point.
Keeper of Zelena's witch hat and the Black Fairy's wand.
SirMedrautParticipantWELL if that’s the case…
Merlin’s role in Arthurian legend traditionally ends with him getting trapped inside a cave/tree/rock and often has his magic stolen in the process.
Merlin’s in the hat. Not sure how the hat will tie into THIS arc (like others have suggested, it’ll probably be the ultimate fate of the Snow Queen) but I’d bet a whole lot of cookies he’s knocking around in there somewhere. It’s the only thing this made me think of, honestly, really curious to see where they’re going with the hat.

SirMedrautParticipant“whose properties can be very deadly in the wrong hands” “that’s going to be part of something that we tell for awhile” “someone we’re going to meet”
Calling it now: slow-burn narrative which concludes with Morgana (Black Fairy-ness optional) revealed as the previous owner of the hat (and house) in 4×22 to set up for 5A. Belle did say that you could see the ocean from nearly every room, and Morgana’s name in Welsh means something along the lines of born/dwells by the sea.
Also, I never saw it, but that live-action Sorcerer’s Apprentice film that Disney put out in 2010 apparently featured Nic Cage looking for the “Prime Merlinian”, a descendant of Merlin and the only one who can defeat the big boss battle with, that’s right, Morgana le Fay at the end of the film. It’s all probably nothing at all but Disney has at least once before linked Morgana with the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, so…
…Of course, odds are that this will simply join the long line of Anita, the Seer from 2×14, Tamara, and Zelena as roles I predicted Morgana for and came up blank. But if I guess long enough, I eventually need to be right, right? So on the very unlikely chance I’m right in May, you can say you heard it here first ;D

August 27, 2014 at 9:44 am in reply to: Kristen Bauer Van Straten Returning For S4 (Second Half) #281023SirMedrautParticipantIt’d be a tad repetitive (though, I guess, not past our writers) to have another back-half with an evil sorceress going after a baby, but with Aurora pregnant and in SB I’ve been thinking Maleficent as a possibility for 4B or 5A a lot lately. She’s failed with Aurora’s mother and Aurora herself, but you know what they say, third time’s the charm and all that, right? Plus I’m sure she’s probably got a bone or two to pick with Regina for trapping her in Storybrooke and not even giving her the dignity of being allowed to die in peace. I admit, like Watcher, I wanted Jafar and I think it’s majorly suspicious that they’ve announced 4B’s potential villain before 4×01 has even aired, but *someone* has to rub his bottle in the first place. While I think it’d be better to give him to a nonmagical villain like Cruella, the havoc a Jafar and Maleficent team up could cause does tickle my fancy.
And I still don’t want her to be the Black Fairy because I want them to save that for Morgana, but I will be more than accepting if it turns out to be her anyways. She just seems to have a surprising amount of power in the two times we saw her use them for an exiled, wand-stripped fairy. When Tink gets banished, she’s mundane – if this Black Fairy who did “terrible, terrible things” was left with the capability to transform into a dragon and channel magic through a staff after having her deus ex machina wand taken away, that’s majorly irresponsible on Blue’s part.
