ParticipantThat’s true. Yes, in the U.S.
Have traveled beyond the borders, but mostly when I was younger. Never been to Germany, though.[adrotate group="5"]Snickerdoodle
ParticipantI have to say that for story and content, this was probably my next favorite episode after “Skin Deep.”
Someone will have to post a poll listing all the season one episodes at the end of the season and ask what everyone’s top 2 or 3 were. 😀

Perhaps Emma is a test-tube baby genetically engineered by Rumpel via magic.
Now that would be original. 😆
I guess I’m asking myself is Emma magic or does she carry magic to be restored, or does she herself possess magic she can wield? I’m going to have to take some time to go back and listen to the few things people have said about Emma and her magic — Jefferson, August, and Mr. Gold. Hmm… maybe transcripts will help 🙂

ParticipantI am going to call that Emma carries the “seed” of FTL’s magic, as part of the ingredient in the curse.
Her belief is the trigger needed to bring back the magic that will save/restore FTL.Snickerdoodle
ParticipantI loved the scene with Pinnochio and Gepetto on the raft with Monstro in the background, and then Gepetto crying over a wooden puppet. I don’t think I could have done that.
And then pInnochio tying Jiminy up in the clock 😆
And the end where August goes to help Gepetto. Loved that whole conversation.Least favorite:
Gepetto bargaining with the Blue Fairy and telling Jiminy he could never make up for what he did to his parents.
Gepetto not doing what the BF told him to do, and sending Pinnochio through the wardrobe instead… putting all that responisbility on a 7 year old in five seconds.
Emma’s anger at August for his bringing her to the Lobster House.
Emma not being able to see August’s leg. (That was a great twist.)Snickerdoodle
ParticipantMidnight, thanks for those thoughts, I hadn’t thought of the Rumpel connection and that makes possible sense, especially since the bottle of love looks like a DNA strand. But it still begs the question what about Emma breaks the curse? What did Rumpel set in place as the triggeT?
It is like each step she takes toward allowing herself to love and care for Henry and stay in his life has had some impact — clock starting, sinkhole, etc.. For each life she has poured a little care into, even for a moment, it has had an effect — Ashley keeping her baby, Ruby finding herself, etc.
She allowed herself to care for Graham and the impact was huge, he finally remembered. And we have seen MM’s character become stronger as Emma has befriended her, although I admit her most caring scenes for MM were in “Hat Trick”, so if that were some sort of trigger for people to remember who they are, that one should have done it. Thinking back, I am kind of disappointed about that.Anyway, I’m not sure where I was going with that, but keep trying to find some kind of thread that says this is the trigger, this is what is needed to break the curse.
Maybe, Rumpel implanted a “seed of magic” in the curse to be carried by Emma to the new place they would be living — ‘land without magic”. That might explain his comment to August that he saw things changing and wasn’t sure, didn’t want to take a chance with Regina. That might also explain why the Mad Hatter/Jefferson disappeared into the hat she made. Emma may be carrying the magic to restore FTL but needs to believe for it to grow and save them all.
Bear with me, I’m processing here.

ParticipantMaybe Regina will go on a tantrum-like rampage and go squeeze a number of hearts in her vault. That might take several people down, without taking out a main character. At this point I am becoming tired of the hype and just want to see the story.
It occurs to me if Emma couldn’t see August’s leg, then she would not have felt Graham’s empty chest. To her they are both humans, not FT characters, so she sees and feels what she believes to be true.

Hopefully these writers will be a little more originalSnickerdoodle
ParticipantOkay, another “proof” is the skeleton keys. In the book, in Henry’s hands, opening MM door, opening the jail cell — crazy. Emma has to be wondering about that. To me that is probably the most unexplainable thing that has happened that connects to the book and FTL.
But I admit I would be hesitant to believe, but I am also the type person who would be trying to figure out the truth, and so just wouldn’t deny the possibility, adamantly, even if it was beyond reason. The skeleton keys would give me pause, and frankly I would have started trying them on every door in the building to verify that they work on anything. Then I would really be asking a lot of questions, especially since the key shape obviously doesn’t fit a modern day door.
I thought when August showed her his leg that would be the defining moment, but the fact that she couldn’t see it just blew me away. That was an awesome twist by the writers. She can’t even see the truth, because she refuses to believe in even the possibility.
slurpeez108 and Phee really appreciate your insights. I think I agree with you most on what you said.
I think my indignation and anger is not directed so much at August as it is Gepetto for being so selfish that he demanded his boy be saved over MM going with Emma. So short-sighted, but selfishness usually is.

ParticipantOn another thread slurpeez108 wrote that maybe Henry dies temporarily and is awakened by Emma’s true love kiss — mother to child. I like this idea too! But Henry can’t die… not yet.
