Holy moly! Yes, there were there a ton of creepy Arthur/Gwen and Hook/Emma parallels like the flowers that represent deceit and the men only wanting the “best” versions of their royal trophy wife/girlfriend. While I’m bracing myself for Arthur and Hook to be revealed as long-lost kin, I’m not so sure I agree that Hook will be depicted as a “better” sort of king of Camelot or anything like that. So far, Hook and Arthur seem to be pretty evenly matched. I don’t agree with the final prediction that SQ is endgame, but there was admittedly a lot of heavy SQ-baiting  and paralleling between Gwen/Lancelot and Emma/Regina (i.e. Gwen saved Lancelot from the darkness similar to how Emma saved Regina. Who knew all it took was a torch? Maybe Emma should’ve just used a lighter instead of actually becoming the dark one).

The Sands of Avalon being used to transform Camelot and brainwash Gwen is about as convoluted and ridiculous as the rock trolls being used in 4a to erase an entire kingdom’s memory of Ingrid and Helga.

The same flowers, by the way, that Arthur used to woo Guinevere (and later gave her after he threw the sand on her).

Yes, this! If anything, the flowers were meant to highlight a similarity between Hook and Arthur (more on that below).

First, a breakdown of Hook and Emma’s scene in 5×4 as compared to last week’s. In Camelot during the previous 6 weeks, Hook asks Emma to trust him. From 5×4:

Hook: This is about you putting your faith in me, in our future.
Emma: You think we can still get back there, to Storybrooke and some white-picket-fence life?
Hook: Yes, I’ll never stop fighting for us. All you have to do is trust me.

Yet, as we saw in 5×3 …

Emma: I used to be scarred and judgmental and closed off. Took me forever to see the magic in this place. And now I… I see things clearly. I’m not scared anymore. Honestly, I’m an open book, if you’re willing to take that trust step.
Hook: Are you really suggesting that we move forward in a real relationship?
Emma: Gold and Belle loved each other.
Hook: I don’t think you should use the Crocodile as your example…
Emma: All I need is your trust, I promise.
Hook: I liked you the way you were. I liked your walls. I like being the man to break them down.
Emma: The person you found inside is still me. I have a question for you for once. Do you love me? If you tell me you don’t love me I will let you go.
    Hook: I loved you.

Emma makes the same proposition to Hook as he made to her in Camelot, only he refuses. He no longer sees that future as he did in Camelot now that he sees her as just the dark one. He said those sweet things when he still couldn’t see Emma as the dark one, unlike the horse, who could sense the darkness in Emma. (Cue Not!Rumple: “So the pony’s smarter than the pirate! She knows what you are, dearie”). The implication is that Hook in Camelot still didn’t see that the darkness had taken root in Emma.

It’s almost as if Emma in the present day were putting Hook to the test by taking away his memory of Camelot to see if Hook would give up on them. So far, he has not kept that vow. (He may try to rid her of darkness in an unadvised way later on…more on that later). Right now he can’t even see the woman he said he used to love, (“that you isn’t here”). Hook only sees the Dark One and calls her by that title. (Contrast that with Belle, who never called Rumple “dark one” even when she banished him from SB, and Regina, who still sees goodness in Emma).

Now for the comparison between Arthur and Hook. The main thing we know about Arthur is he’s obsessed with making Excalibur whole. Arthur would do anything to reunite his sword hilt with the dark one dagger, even if it meant bewitching his wife into the compliant, supportive queen he wants her to be. Sound like anyone else with an obsessive nature? Next, there is the fact that Merlin told Kid!Emma bad things would happen if she tried to take the sword out of the stone. And as we saw in 3×4, Emma’s family tried to protect Emma by keeping the dagger hidden from Arthur and thwarting his plans to reforge the sword. Yet, spoiler pictures reveal Hook has Excalibur in tact with his name written on it. It seems to me like Arthur and Hook both have a common vice: obsession. Arthur is obsessed with making Excalibur whole, and Hook may grow equally obsessed if he thinks he can use it to rid Emma of the darkness if TLK continues to fail. Also, both Hook and Arthur seem to want their respective lady loves to match some ideal standard. Arthur desires Gwen to be his perfect queen as Hook desires Emma to be the perfect savior princess.

I already count Rumple as brave. He sacrificed his life in 3×11 to save his family. What truer testament of bravery is there than self-sacrifice? Learning to shoot arrows and clash swords isn’t going to teach him what he already knows: heroes sacrifice themselves to protect others.

I can’t just can’t do the hope thing ever again.

Disclaimer: For the record, I’m not trying to give anyone a reason to hope for anything. I’m just calling it like I see things on a week to week basis.

My question, Slurpeez, is really this : what are you hoping for? What do you expect? Just that CS is never declared TL?

It all comes down to the following: there are some people who’re right for you (aka Neal), some people who’re wrong for you (aka Hook) and some people you just choose (aka Henry). In the end, I predict a choice will have to be made between Hook and Henry, and Henry will win hands down. I may be wrong (wouldn’t be the first time). But until I see the very last episode ever, I’m not ready to declare Hook the last person standing.

That’s text too. Yes it’s bait and they are doing it to both sides but only one of those is going to have any sort of happy resolution. And it’s not us.

I know it’s SF bait. But, my argument is that Neal is implicitly there in the text; it’s not reading into it.

Of course he matters. But we’re not writing the show and therefore our own readings end up mattering very little because the authors text are what we given on a weekly basis. I can read Neal into every single scene in this show…and the writers will STILL refuse to acknowledge him.

Show don’t tell. Of course, the writers tell CS fans what they want to hear, but what actually is being revealed is just why CS does not equal TL. There is a pattern to CS =/= TL and SF = TL. It’s not reading into it. Clearly, Emma is not over Neal.
