Hook: “I loved you”So Hook liked breaking down her walls? In other words, he only liked the thrill of the chase. That is in no way romantic (although many CS fans probably saw it that way). He liked being made to feel like a man around Princess Emma — the hero with his trophy girlfriend dressed in pink. It was really about him and his ego. He “loved” Savior Swan when he saw her as a prize to be won. Now that she’s no longer up on some shiny pedestal, he’s through with her just like that? Even though Emma wanted that cutlass, I actually think Emma was speaking from the heart and being emotionally honest in this scene. Her heart was open, and she is still someone just looking for unconditional love, which Hook doesn’t give her. He doesn’t really love Emma, which is the real reason why TLK failed.

yeah… Hook was compared to Gaston as early as S3 by many of us here. Too bad Disney Belle had more sense than did Emma Swan. And yes I realize they are fictional characters.

ParticipantThis isn’t just about Hook wanting to free Emma from the dark one curse, this is Hook rejecting Emma just because there’s something “wrong” with her. That is not true love at all. That is not even love.

ParticipantBroken heart could refer to both the metaphoric and literal heart. I’m thinking this is the episode where the writers reveal how Emma actually went dark: she crushed a heart, which left her family heartbroken. It’s already been foreshadowed that Emma will kill someone: first with Cruellla, then with Lily and again with Merida.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s Regina…she’s the one being told by Emma to step up as the savior and do what needs to be done.

ParticipantBut the dialogue was written this way, and, of all the takes of that scene, which I assume there were multiple versions of, the directing choice fell on the one where Hook’s affect is self-righteous outrage.
Yeah it could’ve been written in a better, less offensive way.

ParticipantI mean, you look at traditional sailors of the era that Hook’s at least dressed in and their history, it’s full of men with a code who do unspeakable things.
Young Killian Jones didn’t take alcohol according to 3×5. Prior to his brother’s death, he wasn’t exactly a swearing sailor who drank and whored his way along the coast. I think he adhered strictly to his code of honor.
What I do know is that when he did turn pirate, he embraced it fully (all the icky parts as well) and I’m not 100% that his pre-pirate life wasn’t ever icky.
It might not have been fair nor accurate to say “that’s all he’s ever been” it’s also not a total falsehood either.It is very disturbing how quickly he turned towards piracy. It’s one thing to fight a corrupt king, but it’s another thing entirely to become a menace and a bully to innocent people like crippled, pre-dark-one Rumple. I find his character’s dichotomies interesting, but the commonality I find running through his character is his obsessive nature. He was once obsessed with his moral code. He seems like an all-or-nothing kind of person. As soon as he decided to embrace piracy, he totally took on the nature of a womanizing bully. He no longer cared about a king, and he became a king unto himself who stole everything, including another person’s wife (though it’s important to note Milha willingly abandoned her own family).
