ParticipantMaybe it’s less about Rumple and his happy ending and more about making sure Rumple *keeps* his HEA. If the Savior remains pure, then she can change what Rumple and the Author rewrite. But if you corrupt the Savior, make her a darker version of herself, then she can’t undo the changes.
“The story ends with the savior turning dark,” sounds to me like a foreshadowing of what’s in store for Emma. I theorized a while back that Rumple wants to drive his darkness into Emma’s heart, the way the Apprentice drove Emma’s potential for darkness into Lily. I think Rumple’s idea of a happy ending is him keeping his magic without having to pay the price for it. Instead, Emma pays the price.

ParticipantMy guess is that it needs to be something “light”-related, such that the magic of the quill/storytelling draws on both light and darkness to manifest the stories as reality.
A hair from Henry’s head? After all, he’s the product of both dark and light magic. Or maybe a hair from baby Neal’s head, since he’s an innocent and a product of the truest of true love.

ParticipantA question before formulating an opinion…what’s with all the Rumple’s dying/Bobby wants off the show stuff coming from? The current storyline or something read or just speculation?
In reply to your question, here are my thoughts about the fate of Rumplestiltskin. His dark heart could be taken as confirmation that he is going to die. He already had a very close shave with death, until Zelena gave him the elixir to buy him a bit of extra time to track down Isaac. While Rumple may succeed temporarily in getting Isaac to rewrite the villains their happy endings (thereby extending his life for a bit longer), I think Henry is going to become the next Author and set things back to how they were with good triumphing over evil. Also, based on spoilers and what Emma herself already said about wanting to stab Rumple with his dagger, I think after Henry course corrects things so that the odds are again stacked in favor of the heroes, Emma will stab Rumple, kill him, and become the next dark one. That will be the big cliff hanger for S5.

ParticipantYes good question. But I’d say we could look at history/mythology for an answer to that. There have always been savior figures. They spring up in every mythology known to man. It’s our rather monotheistic world view that makes us think there can only be ONE.
Even in the Bible, there are arguably several savior-like figures, who all predate Christ (e.g. Noah, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Esther, and David).
But..you’ve seen the Matrix, yeah? Neo in the “One” but he’s also one of many. He’s part of an equation that played itself out over and over. He’s not the first, but he is the last. That’s Emma. She might not be the first Savior, because Savior’s rise up in times of cosmological crises, but she is the Last.
Yeah. If Emma is comparable to Christ, she is the one who will “overcome death, once and for all.”

ParticipantWhat I’m curious about is whether or not there have been Saviors before Emma.
Maybe. Lily just compared herself to Moses in a basket. Moses was a savior of his people in the Bible. That makes it sound like Lily is also a prime candidate for being a savior. I’m thinking part of Lily’s destiny isn’t necessarily doomed to anti-savior, like she believes, but that Lily and Emma are going to switch places. Emma is going to become the anti-savior Black Swan when the heroes and villains swap places in the finale.
If that’s where the ink for the Author comes from, there would’ve had to have been previous saviors, right?
Hmmm, if what you’re saying is true, that means the blood of the dark savior is the magic ink required for the Author to rewrite a story? Eeek. And yeah, that would imply there have been many different saviors through history, since there have been many different authors.
I’m telling you guys. Lily’s blood = ink for book.
*sigh* Looks like you could be right. I’d been hoping the ink required would just be squid ink, rather than dark savior blood.
So…does this mean Rumple doesn’t even need the Savior anymore?
Guess not? So Emma doesn’t actually have to go fully dark? Rumple just needed a drop of her darkness, which had been cast in Lily? That means Rumple was counting on Emma finding Lily and bringing her back to SB, rather than killing her, as Regina had assumed.

ParticipantYou gotta love Regina and her way of greeting new people into town!!! Though…what would she need with Emma’s portion of darkness???
Because Regina is really Rumple in a magical disguise. He needs Emma’s darkness to change fate so that Isaac can write the villains their happy endings.

ParticipantLily: “[Snow and Charming] sent me through a portal in my egg shell, baby Moses in a basket”
Hold up. Does that mean Lily is really the savior? Moses saved his people. Could this be foreshadowing about Lily and Emma swapping places in the finale? Hence, Lily becomes the new savior and Emma becomes the new anti-savior.

ParticipantUhhhh, what?
– Why did Regina need a drop of Lily’s blood? Regina said she needed some savior darkness and that Lily had Emma’s darkness in her. So maybe Regina needed a drop of Lily’s blood because it contained some of Emma’s darkness. But why would Regina need savior darkness unless she were trying to change fate to get the Author to rewrite the villains their happy endings? Wait…does anyone else suspect that Regina may really be Rumple in disguise?
– Lily’s eyes glowed. Yep. She is a dragon, and ergo, totally Maleficent’s biological daughter.
– Dark Star Pharmacy….Why does that make me think of the Blue Fairy and the Black Fairy? Is that foreshadowing about meeting the dark fairy?

ParticipantNow, this doesn’t actually matter. The casting department still cast someone who has Latina heritage and has a certain look and then dismantled it when they cast the adult version. A and E did know who Lily was, they knew how they intended to use her. Trying to say that it was a break down in communication is simply letting everyone off the hook.
I’m inclined to agree, but we’re never going to know for certain. If it was an “oversight” then that is in and of itself problematic, because the casting department usually gets it right. But I tend to think the writers informed the casting department months in advance that Lily would be an important returning guest-star. Even by just comparing the two casting calls for young and adult Lily, many of us, the online audience, were able to tell “Autumn” would be Adult Lily.
Her casting call for her younger actress describes her as, “a bright, self-reliant teen who boasts a charming, take-no-prisoners punk exterior and the heart of a secretive, insecure opportunist.”
The casting call for her older actress describes her as a charismatic and fiercely independent woman who “easily wraps others into her schemes”, with a “penchant for troublemaking”, although she just “wants to be loved”
According to TV Line:
Also of note: the casting call for “Autumn” specifies brunette hair, hence my going with an older photo of the recently blonde Bruckner — if that is who she’s playing.
The casting call itself specified brunette hair, and yet, the casting department cast a blonde who had to dye her hair. These are just some hints that the casting department knew in advance who Lily would be, but that they chose a blonde, despite the specifications of the casting call for “Autumn.”
