ParticipantBecause we could all use some warm AUs:
“After fleeing Neverland, Baelfire returns to the Enchanted Forest, making a home out of the forest while still on the run from his father. He meets the Princess, who fast becomes the one person he trusts. Over the years, they fall in love in hidden, secret places.” x

ParticipantIsn’t it nice to have some real meat to dig our theorizing teeth into again? 🙂
Yes, it is! That was the thing that drew me into Once in the first place, and I’d been sorely missing it since the show seems to have lost its mystery.

ParticipantLOST had the Valenzetti Equation which was loosely based on Asimov’s Foundation Series. the Valenzetti Equation basically predicted the end of humanity thus the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42 always being transmitted.
That’s really interesting! Having never watched Lost, I’m always interested to know what influence it may have had on A&E. Knowing now that Asimov may really have been an influence on these writers leads me to put more stock in my own theory about the Author’s last name being Asimov.
When Gypsy (Misty) and I found out The Author’s first name was Isaac, and I read Katrina’s Tan tweet over on Twitter, we immediately thought of Asimov. However, we’ve now thinking it’s more likely going to be Newton, despite Kat’s tweet.
Interesting! You and Gypsy were so clever to guess Dr. Whale’s identity based on his name! So knowing your first guesses about the Author’s surname being Asimov leads me to hope my own guess could be right! Your reasons for supposing it could be also Newton have me somewhat second guessing myself, but Kat has been pretty trustworthy in the past about spoilers. So her denial that the author’s last name is Newton makes me inclined to question it.

ParticipantPatrick Fischler as Isaac
Issac is a Hebrew name meaning laughter, based on the Biblical story of Sarah’s laughter at the thought of conceiving a son in her old age. The meaning of the name would fit what we know about the author’s character so far, which is that he behaves in a puckish manner, almost as if he’s laughing at messing with the characters about which he writes.
Kat claims that Isaac has a surname, but that it’s too spoilerly to reveal:
My other thought is that perhaps the reason Issac’s last name is so spoiler-filled is because he is based on a real-life author. There was a 20th-century science fiction writer named Isaac Asimov (1920-1992). According to Wikipedia, Asimov’s most famous work is the Foundation Series. To date, the series is the only to have received a special Hugo Award for “Best All-Time Series” –winning even over J.R.R. Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings.
I wonder if such a prolific and famous writer of sci-fi could’ve had an influence on aspiring writers like A&E? They’ve been known to name a few of their characters based on real-life figures (e.g. Dr. Whale, August Wayne Booth and Neal Cassidy). So the writers naming the Author after Issac Asimov could be a homage to such a prolific real-life author.
If Issac’s last name is such a spoiler, could it perhaps be a tip-off about the fate of OUAT? Issac Asimov’s best known series, The Foundation Series, is about foretelling possible outcomes of the future, with different alternate realities being possible.
From Wikipedia:
The premise of the series is that the mathematician Hari Seldon spent his life developing a branch of mathematics known as psychohistory, a concept of mathematical sociology. Using the laws of mass action, it can predict the future, but only on a large scale. Seldon foresees the imminent fall of the Galactic Empire, which encompasses the entire Milky Way, and a dark age lasting 30 thousand years before a second great empire arises. Seldon also foresees an alternative where the interregnum will last only one thousand years. To ensure the more favorable outcome, Seldon creates a foundation of talented artisans and engineers at the extreme end of the galaxy, to preserve and expand on humanity’s collective knowledge, and thus become the foundation for a new galactic empire.
So far, we can surmise that the S4 finale of OUAT is all about the Author creating an AU for the characters, in which the villains become heroes and the heroes become villains. If the Author’s name turns out to be Issac Asimov, it could be very fitting indeed.

ParticipantLet me guess. The Author was Cruella’s first love. He offered to rewrite her story so that she’d be happy, but instead, he betrayed her and wrote her as a villain. That leads me to ask, just what is Cruella’s idea of a happy ending? Is it to be loved by the Author, or perhaps her mother?
However, I don’t think Curella is going to survive for her happy ending. I have this foreboding feeling that Cruella may die in this episode at the hands of Regina. In 4×16, Regina warned Cruella, “Lay a hand on my son and I’ll end you.” Now Cruella is set to target Henry, despite Regina’s ominous threat. Don’t mess with Mama Mills (or Emma).

ParticipantThough unlike the Black Fairy, Penelope has been brought up on at least two separate occasions so far. So to me, this can go in either direction.
I wouldn’t be surprised either way. If I had to guess, I think her being mentioned twice in Once canon is significant and a possible indicator that we may actually see her at some point. Does Penelope falling through the ice mean anything? Will believed it meant she died. Could she have somehow survived without his knowledge? It would’ve been interesting if Penelope falling through the ice had been linked back to Elsa or Ingrid, but alas, a missed opportunity.

A good idea. Over at the ranch there is the general advice only to ship couples you know in advance end up together, based on books mostly, and Jane Austen in particular.

ParticipantPenelope is a modern-day fairytale about a girl who was born with a pig snout. Also, in classic Greek mythology, Penelope is the faithful wife of Odysseus, from Homer’s Odyssey. I’m not sure either applies to OUAT but the name Penelope is very unusual, so it stood out to me.
