Just finished Lily’s Review. Good as always. I knew the Swen’s were going to go gaga over that last bit of the episode. A and E…forever giving fans tiny pieces of cake and then killing them slowly.

Excellent review by Lily Sparks! Her dry sense of humor is what helps gets me through this crap-fest. You know what? After those final scenes of Emma, Regina and Henry at Granny’s and at the mansion, talking about happy endings, it made me want to root for them to realize that they could be happy together, even as just a pair of platonic single moms co-parenting adolescent Henry.

    HAHAHAHA! Ratings update: http://tvline.com/2014/12/15/once-upon-a-time-season-4-winter-finale-ratings/

*cackling evilly at her desk as the numbers continue to free fall* 😀

Yeah, talk about a nose dive!

@ RG – Well done! I loved the excellent contrast between your trying-to-remain-composed professional review and your slightly-tipsy-ranting-and-raving personal review. The first one was accurate to my own experience of watching this show-in-decline and the second review was just hilarious!

That matches our series low from a year go (Bleeding Through). It’s not a NEW series low, though.

Ouch! I don’t think Frozen did Once any favors, probably because of the awkward way in which it was inserted into an already-crowded Once universe. 4×1 had S1-high ratings only to fall to rock bottom in 4×11. With all the Frozen characters getting all the flashbacks, it felt a little too redundant and too crowded with all the pre-existing Once characters. The timeline was also too confusing and too self-contradicting. The show has too many glaring plot holes, convenient plot devices, amnesia, and inconsistencies now for Frozen to have saved it.

Slurpeez… I am soooooo glad it wasn’t just me!! I was driving to work this morning pondering last night’s ep and I was like, “I ship them? Since when!”

I did feel something for Rumple and for Belle. How could I not? The acting in that scene was probably the best of S4, by far. I actually was proud of Belle. I thought Rumple got what was coming to him, even though it was harsh. So, I’m not sure how I would categorize myself. I always liked Belle and Rumple as individuals, but I always could see their relationship was going to be unhealthy as long as Rumple kept choosing power over her. So seeing Belle stand up for herself and save everyone was actually really cathartic. Rumple, cowardly and crippled, was once again pulling at my heart strings, but then I remember how he would’ve killed Emma without remorse and had unlimited power at the expense of all those people. Rumple the man I adore. Rumple the dark one? Not so much.

Memory lane. Back in the day before Rumple’s character growth was thrown under the bus, along with Neal.

*sigh* Just another reminder of why the show finale should’ve been 3×11.

Did Bobby express regret about MRJ leaving the show? Really? Interesting.

Yes, he did at Comic Con San Diego, 2014. He said he thought it was a real shame to see MRJ leave, because he is a fine actor and was an asset to the show (paraphrase).

She’s saved as many people as the Savior now, and almost always by sacrificing everything in the process.

Belle is a real hero in my eyes. As Henry has said, “heroes have to make sacrifices all the time.” Where is it written that heroes get a happy ending? Neal’s final sacrifice is proof that isn’t always true. In Belle’s case, however, I hope she finds friendship, acceptance and praise for her heroism. And I agree she is just as much a savior, if not more so, than Emma is. I feel like the rest of the town needs to embrace her fully as one of their own, and host a dinner at Granny’s in her honor. Let Belle shine as a main character in her own right.

Bearing in mind I haven’t watched since 3×14 (I think? Or 15/16)…killing off Neal was just about the worst thing they could’ve done for Rumple. I always knew that, but this confirms it. Now he’s on a REVENGE quest? What is he, Regina?? That and the fact that he apparently spent all of S4A trying to get unchecked power is just…incredibly lame. It’s a Bond villain motive. What made him interesting was that there was a personal nature to his motivations.

I agree. The writers royally screwed over Rumple’s character. They should’ve just left well enough alone and let Rumple’s sacrifice stand. Neal deserved that second chance, and Rumple’s current behavior doesn’t warrant one. It’s clear Bobby didn’t like what the writers did to Neal and Rumple either, and that he isn’t a fan of Rumbelle. So Bobby probably just wants Rumple’s character to embrace the dark side completely and die so he can be freed from his contract to go pursue worthwhile acting endeavors.

Here’s the analogy I like to use: Rumple without Bae is Darth Vader without Luke Skywalker. Not particularly interesting!

And yes, Rumple is now the Darth Vader to Hook’s Han Solo. Not that interesting or that original *head’s desk*

Hey guys! Haven’t been watching/cared for the last 6 months, but…I heard about the winter finale and Rumple getting his…posterior…dumped. Because he tried to kill Hook/rule the world? Am I understanding this correctly? This is gleaned from tumblr gifs mostly.

Yes. Belle saved the pirate’s life, the same pirate who twice (thrice?) tried to kill her. Why couldn’t Belle have intervened a moment later? And yes, Rumple’s true love is power according to Belle, not her. *head’s desk*

Snowing was my only OTP in S1 (before I even knew what that meant). Rumbelle was fine by me, but wasn’t exactly my cup of tea either (get it, cup?) *Crickets* However, that banishment scene last night was full of pathos. I had feelings I didn’t expect. Bobby and Emilie nailed that scene. Bobby’s ability to weep openly never ceases to stir emotions, but I actually was more stirred by Emilie’s strong delivery of a determined, resolved Belle. Finally, she stood up for herself! She didn’t fall victim to Rumple’s emotional weakness. It was tough love, because how else could Belle hope to get through to Rumple, who is an addict? She couldn’t continue to be an enabler of his addiction to magic, which she was quickly becoming the longer she stayed in that unhealthy dynamic. Too bad Rumple *still* hasn’t learned anything. I fear his character may end his days a villain.
